Diego Sahagun | Foothill

For our Cranes for a Cure event that occurred on June 10 th , members were to create many origami cranes as a basis of a goal to reach 1000 cranes, the event being based on the Japanese legend. Each member got together on a discord meeting to learn and create multiple cranes. They would also record the number of hours it took to make their cranes on a Google form.

An important goal that we have at Canyon Key Club is to really advocate the safety precautions that were instilled to keep us safe from the current virus. We asked our members to discuss the question below in order to show others that despite the other movements that are occurring simultaneously, this pandemic is something that is still happening, and it continues to affect us as of right now.

How has this current pandemic affected you and others around you, and what can we do as a community to uphold safety precautions?

“This pandemic affected me extremely at first and for my family as well. It was very unexpected that everything closed including the place that we go to everyday, the school and gym. We had to adapt to it and I'd say right now, we do not mind staying at home, but still really miss being able to go out to all the other places without worrying. We were able to pick up some new skills and hobbies which is the benefit that we did not make time for before, but now are able to. I assume other students have adapted to online school and remote learning which might happen for the incoming school year. As a community, I believe that we must make it mandatory to wear face mask, not just a one layer thin cloth to cover the mouth and nose, but an actual face mask. Many of us still should be quarantined and follow social distancing in my opinion.” ― Brooke Nguyen (senior)

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought many challenges both to me and my family. We were never expecting this to come and affect us in such a big way. It has caused me to change and adjust to the new normal for quite some time. I have to now do classes online where I do not learn as effectively, do my own track practices at home, and have to FaceTime my friends which isn’t the same as talking to them in person. These things have all impacted me and my family in a negative way but I know that as a result of this we will be stronger people and be more aware of sanitation. We have been washing our hands more often, wiping and spraying things down, and just paying more attention to the small details that we may have looked over before the pandemic. By now, my family and I have adjusted to this new way of living and continue to follow CDC guidelines (social distancing, face masks, etc.). Overall, this world wide pandemic has made a huge impact on all of us but I know that in the end we will all learn and be even better people.” ― Ben Nguyen (sophomore)
