GREETINGS! Hey everyone, It’s Christon here! AP and IB testing is over, and the school year is dwindling down to an end. With only a few more days of school left, most of you probably think that Key Club has ended for the summer as well… That is not the case! In the summer time, there is a lot of work to be done. Not only is the summer time KEY time for planning for the school year, it is also great time to strengthen and unite our great division. These past few weeks, I’ve been making my way to most of the schools in our division to visit and celebrate the last key club meetings of the school year. From getting to talk to most of the board members and speaking to some of the clubbers, I am thoroughly impressed! The dedication and drive I've sensed from speaking to most of you is incredible! Over the summer, I’ll be meeting with your boards for summer planning and assisting as much as I can. I can already tell the rest of your term as division 65 boardies will be a great one! With that being said, keep Key Club alive, and try to get more members involved in Divisional and District activities. As the sun starts to shine more brightly, get ready for fun divisional projects and activities. Have a great summer, and keep Key Club alive! ….btw, hope to see all of you reppin’ that #division65 pride at Portland Rally! ;) In love and Service,

Christon Senekham

Once graduated, seniors have the opportunity to join different families of Kiwanis. Seniors have the opportunity of becoming a Key Club Alumni, A member of Circle K, or join a Kiwanis Club in your

Key Club Alumni: As an Alumni of Key Club, Alumni’s can reconnect and keep in contact with the rest of the Kfamily. Alumni's can still go to DCON, and keep in touch with their previous high school clubs

1

Circle K: Circle K is the Key Club of college Campuses. With over 550 clubs in universities, alumni’s can still live a lifestyle based on leadership, service, and fellowship. Kiwanis: High School graduates can join their local Kiwanis Clubs for free for the first few years. As a Kiwanian, the mission is to still, serve the children of the world while engaging every member of the community.

CLUB VISITS! Who: ALL DIVISION 65 CLUBS Where: Your meeting room! When: Your next club meeting! Why: One of the duties of a Lieutenant Governor is to visit his/her clubs to see how the club and board is functioning. Getting to visit other Key Club meetings is actually one of my favorite things about being an Ltg., actually. If I haven’t visited your club yet, please contact me to schedule your next club meeting!

6

Over these last few weeks of school, I’ve been graced with the opportunity to visit some of the clubs in our division. Many of the meetings that I attended were the last meetings of the year, celebrated with doughnuts, candies, and food. It was nice to see all the key clubbers come back to celebrate the end of Key Club for the school year. My rounds of club visits for this school year opened my eyes to the mass number of Key Clubbers we actually have in our division, and how we can improve the clubs in our division. Thanks for letting me visit your clubs!

One baby dies every 9 minutes from neonatal tetanus

160 babies die each day from Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus

38 countries remain at high risk for MNT

Kiwanis will help save or protect more than 61 million mothers and their future babies

On average, health education and a series of three doses of tetanus vaccine

cost $1.80

12

I am proud to announce that this year’s new District Project will be The Eliminate project. You may ask: Why The Eliminate Project? The answer to this is, every 9 minutes, one child or mother dies from What is known as MNT (Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus). This painful disease steals the lives of 60,000 babies from their families. In 30 countries around the world, MNT takes on a large toll because of deliveries taking place in unhygienic circumstances and because no vaccination for the deadly infection is available. The effects of this infection is excruciating. Tiny new born babies suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch, turning the joy of childbirth into a tragedy. What we need to do as key clubbers, is to change this. As part of the largest student led organizations in the world, we can ELIMINATE this deadly infection. With just 3 does of a 60 cent immunization, we can protect mothers who will in turn protect their future offspring. That’s just $1.80, about the price of a small coffee from Starbucks, or a small burger. Together with our Kiwanis counterpart and UNICEF, we can end something that can be prevented so easily. We are the mighty Pacific Northwest District of Key Club international. With over 12,000 members in our district, and just $2 per member, we can raise over $24,000 which in turn will prevent more than 13,333 mothers and their future newborns from getting this deadly disease. WE CAN DO THIS.

The Eliminate Project shirts and bro-tanks and lanyards will be sold at Portland Rally! Get a shirt and show your support in the fight to eliminate Maternal/Neonatal Tetanus! 13
