DESIGN AND THE ELASTIC MIND THE BRIEF
GENERATIVE
FUTURE FACING
DATA AWARE
INNOVATIVE
Through my research process I found that the majority of the ideas for screen savers consisted of interaction from the user. Therefor, I have decided to do the same through processing. In the duration of this brief I have managed to cover colour tracking and motion tracking through JMyron. But was not able to programme the two together.
The idea of my screen saver is to use live data in the surroundings and convert it into motion on the screen. The data changes accordingly to the movement of the person controlling the mouse. At this current stage I have been able to convert physical movement to visual shapes using the the mouse pressed option on processing. To make this screen saver more data aware I could possibly make it react to the movement in its surroundings.
The future facing aspect of my screen saver ties in with the point of it being innovative and using current technology to create a futuristic idea rather than a futuristic visual outcome. It also links in with the main concept of how the movement raises awareness of carbon foot print and to reflect on it now to help the future. The visuals of interactive screen saver is minimal making some aspects of the visual concept futuristic.
Generative art represents an artistic idea which involves a computer or electronic device to take control over the visual outcome rather than the designer making each individual element of the visual outcome, almost as if the system takes on the role of the creator. I have involved the generative part of the screen saver visually as the outcome is based on the interaction of the user. So, the user is the creator of the artist or the designer.
DESIGN AND THE ELASTIC MIND THE SCREEN SAVER The aim of this brief was to create a screen saver for the design museum in London. The main idea of the screen saver comes from the idea that sometimes screen savers are also a waste of electricity as the computer screen is still powered. Therefor the concept that I have come up with for this innovative design solution comes from the idea that there is still an increase in carbon dioxide levels as this screen saver is in use. So I have generated a lines that follow the mouse and form a smoke like structure. There are many ways in which I would like to further edit and add to this screen saver as it would be great if the smoke was generated by the movement of the person infront of the screen saver. This would mean I would need to tracking devices within the smoke of generated rather than have the user interact by using the mouse.

THE BRIEF others and myself. However as technology is developing more and more designers are starting to bring the world of fashion together with technology, to create new and innovative designs. Be it influenced by the technology or actually using current technology to bring an element that the fashion industry has only touched up on in the past. Therefor the main focus of this brief would be how technology is now influencing fashion.
For this brief I have decided to collaborate with a fashion entrepreneur. As her interests fall in to the category of current existing fashion trends an designers, I gathered that her knowledge and passion for

THE ZINE Trying to compete with the fashion magazines on the shelves today was not the aim of our publication so we decided to create an E-Zine, which is a digital form of a zine that is distributed across the Internet. The E-Zine will be published on issuu as shown on the right, Taking the role as the creative director of the magazine I used simple layouts for the pages, working with a smaller paper size meant having to arrange the content in this simple manner to avoid chaos on one page. I used an A5 size layout, so if people did in the future want to print out the zine then it would be this size. collaborator and I discussed how we could continue to make these zines every month or every season and witness the drastic changes and how more and more designers have started to use technology.

The Concept Social Media Buzz
D&Ad 4seven
The main part of the considerations I took away from the brief before visually conceptualising a theme or concept was that this new channel’s programming is driven by the buzz created online by the social media. The brief states that this should be incorporated in the indent, therefor I have used small polygon particles in after effects to represent the ‘buzz’. The initial idea is that the amount and size of the particles increase and decrease according to live data from the social media websites. So if this design was to go live the statistics of the number of tweets would be represented by the particles.
Another aspect of the brief I have decided to cover within the concept of my ident is the catch up aspect of the channel itself. This is represented through the dimentions and timing of the particles. As the number four is formed first the turquoise particles start to speed up and form the seven rather than both numbers forming into the logo together.

Through research of existing idents, I have been able to identify the qualities of designs that are more effective than others. Which allows me to differenciate between the more sucessful ones and the ones that aren’t designed up to a specific requirement. Therefor I have used the 4seven guidlines to create my ident making it suitable for the channel. I have experimented with the colour pallet they have stated in thr guidelines which are mostly different shades of grey and a turquoise/ teal colour. As the time changes throughout the day, the colour of the background changes accordingly. The positioning of the logo is also a limit that has been set by the guidelines that it should specifically be on the right side of the screen.
