Land of the Gods - The Cycle of Wilderness Human beings have always been exploring the meaning of nature and life. In this documentary, people explore the harmonious coexistence of human, animal and nature by visiting the mysterious no man's land of Qiangtang and the wild yaks in the snow mountain. Crossing the vast and magnificent Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the helplessness and relief of herdsmen, as well as the local legend of Bonism Religion, were recorded through the lens.

The wilderness cycle reveals the majesty and bravery of wild yaks while highlighting the complex interplay of humans, technology, religion, and animals in the evolution of human civilization. It's clear that humans must coexist with these remarkable creatures, the wild yaks. In the past, Tibetans were known for their simple beliefs and basic material needs. However, the impact of modernism, science, and material desires has gradually eroded these traditional beliefs in some Tibetan regions. This project is located in Yarochambo Snow Mountain, Shannan, Lhasa, a sacred Tibetan site. Its purpose is to capture the essence of traditional belief and the significance of death in Tibetan culture through architectural spaces, offering a sensory experience for both pilgrims and tourists.

The connection between industrial areas and modern metropolitan zones, along with the resettlement and employment of residents, has consistently been a matter of significant concern in urban renewal and development. In the current context of the Brooklyn Navy Yard (BNY) in New York, there is an imminent need to address emerging challenges in industrial space. This project is designed to reinvigorate the community's vitality surrounding BNY, simultaneously creating more employment opportunities and introducing additional affordable housing options for the city. The mixed-use complex strategically places industrial functions on lower levels to address environmental concerns and rising water levels. The upper levels adopt a modular approach for swift residential community construction. The project prioritizes natural light for energy efficiency and configures facade louvers at specific angles. Volume adjustments in the residential portion are based on winter solstice light angles, with extensive testing of three density and angle configurations for the louver systems.

03 Persona Consumption Mall Consumers or Commodities? Collaborators: Zijie Zheng Adviser: Jiaxin Yun Contribution: Group leader, conceptual design, developing, modeling and architectural representation 2022.07 Consumerism's growth leads to the emergence of new consumption spaces and intensifies people's desire to consume. Some believe that purchasing power signifies the ability to access social resources, reflecting one's social status. Drawing from Jungian Archetypes, individuals have a persona and shadow. When beliefs like 'I shop, therefore I exist' and 'More spending power means greater status' take hold, people shop excessively to conform, eroding their individuality. This project explores architectural typology to create diverse spaces, categorizing shopping patterns across eras and extracting prototypes. The mall's aboveground is a shopping center, the mirrored underground a factory. The project highlights how the persona's intensification can diminish individuality in the absurd world of excessive consumption.

The " spiritual core" of Shanghai is rooted in the lifestyle of the local people, while the historic buildings in the city are the "physical evidence" to record the development of Shanghai. Over the past several years, in spite of great changes, Shanghai has always kept growing. It's meaningful to think about how to focus on the development while preserving the history of it. In addition, the North Bund, a symbol of industrial port, is undergoing urgent industrial transformation and upgrading. All the factories, foreign buildings, former residences of celebrities and workers' housing along the North Bund are full of historical significance.

Users or Garbage Producers? Individual Adviser: Dan Li, Mingxian Li
2021.06
Since 2019, Shanghai decided to sort and recycle domestic waste. The most typical method in Sino Ocean Liangwan City for collecting trash was to transport garbage bags to an outside drop-off site. Afterwards, social workers would pick up the garbage and transport it to a transfer station. After being compressed in the transfer station, garbage would be packed and transported to the Laogang Waste Incineration Plant for terminal treatment, which is 60km away from Sino Ocean Liangwan City. To localize the disposal of household garbage in the high-density neighborhoods, this project is devoted to studying architectural pipeline system. The project is committed to developing a vacuum garbage collection system to make people's life more convenient and make surplus energy recycled and returned to the society.
