Welcome To The 56 th Annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival The officers and committee members are excited to welcome you to the 2019 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. We are proud to be celebrating 56 years of this festival and invite you to join us Thursday, September 26 through Sunday, September 29 for contests, delicious foods, giant pumpkins, horticultural displays, arts, crafts, parade, car show and a super lineup of musical entertainment. Our committee of volunteers works hard each year to make each festival better than the one before. The Pumpkin Festival began in 1964 as a small street festival founded in the basement of the Catholic Church. Things have changed
considerably since the earlier festivals. We have well over 100 vendors providing concessions, rides and harvestinspired arts and crafts, antiques and more. Local organizations and churches offer a variety of home-style foods. Entertainment and contests take place on two stages, the Central Stage on Main St. and the Pumpkin Stage on S. Chestnut St. With a variety of fun contests for both adults and children, a weigh-in of champion pumpkins, a giant pumpkin parade on Saturday, an antique and classic car show on Sunday – there is plenty to see and do and, best of all, admission remains FREE. We have many fine musical
acts this year plus all types of entertainment. The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival has become a tradition for families and friends, many who travel long distances to come each year to enjoy one of Ohio’s most popular festivals. We are very happy to have you visit and hope you have a most enjoyable and memorable time. Please visit our Information Booth during the festival, located at the corner of Main & Chestnut Streets, where we will answer any questions, guide you to various events or supply you with souvenirs. Thelma Froehlich September 23, 1921 - July 3, 2019
Thelma Maxine Froehlich was a long-time supporter of the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. Along with her husband, William, she proudly participated since the very beginning. They were committee members for several years and they were best known for their large horticulture displays. Even into her late 90s, Thelma never missed an opportunity to be at the Festival and was always eager to be at the ribbon cutting. Her legacy has carried on through her family who has always been actively involved. Thelma’s family and friends will certainly miss her this year at the Pumpkin Festival.

Wednesday Night Weigh-OFF of Giant Pumpkins $2 Per Pound Paid For The King Pumpkin!
Everyone gathers around downtown for the Wednesday night Giant Pumpkin Weighoff to see who will tip the scales the most. Wednesday night is considered the unofficial start of the Festival, prior to the arrival of many out-of-town visitors. From 6-9pm on September 25, a parade of trucks and trailers carrying huge pumpkins get in line to face the scales. This is surely one of the most popular events for the local townspeople as neighbors and friends visit and wait to see who will have
only ones accepted on Wednesday night. Exhibitor of the largest entry receives $2.00 per pound. Winner of the largest “locallygrown” pumpkin receives $100. “Locally-grown” is defined as any exhibit grown in Belmont, Guernsey, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe and Noble counties. Second largest overall receives $1,000, third - $500, fourth $300, fifth - $200, sixth -$150 and 7th through 10th place each receive $100. First place in the 400-pound category receives $35; first in 300-pound receives $30, first in 200-pound receives $25 and in the 100-pound category - $20. Winners in the individual categories (100, 200, 300, 400 pounds) are those exhibits closest to the limit without going over.

2018 KING PUMPKIN WINNERS The title of King Pumpkin was awarded to Todd Cotterman of Fenton MI for his 1,511.5 pound giant pumpkin at last year’s 55th annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. The second largest pumpkin weighing 1,423.5 pounds was grown by Chuck Greathouse, Hartville, OH. Third place went to Jay Johnson of Senecaville, OH. with his 1,231.5 pounder. Mr. Johnson also received the Founder’s Cup Trophy which is given to the largest locally grown
pumpkin. Locally grown is defined by being grown in Belmont, Guernsey, Harrison, Noble, Jefferson or Monroe Counties. KING PUMPKIN ON AUCTION BLOCK SATURDAY One of the most exciting events of the Barnesville P u m p k i n Festival is the auctioning off of the King Pumpkin. This year should be even more exciting with the possibility of yet another r e c o r d breaking pumpkin weight by one of our favorite growers. The excitement of King Pumpkin auction time always builds Saturday afternoon after the completion of the Giant Pumpkin Parade when local auctioneer, Richard Pryor, cranks it up with his sales call from the King Pumpkin Area. Pryor donates his time each year to sell the King Pumpkin as thousands of festival-goers look on. And the excitement does not stop until “SOLD” is called out. The auction is a major fund raising effort for the Festival Committee. Last year’s King
Pumpkin, weighing 1,511.5 pounds and grown by Todd Cotterman of Fenton, MI, brought $8,000 and was purchased by a group of Barnesville businesses. The winning bidder not only supports the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, but also gets front-page billing on the following year’s official Pumpkin Festival Tabloid. They also get to show off the huge vegetable at their business for a week. Immediately following the sale of the King Pumpkin, an auction of the limited edition glass pumpkins will be held. The King Pumpkin Auction begins at 5:00pm on Saturday, September 28, in the area near the Giant Pumpkin display. For more information about the auction, stop at the Information Booth located in the vicinity. Just before the auction, the 2019 Royalty and Mascot will be introduced. A second auction will be held on the Festival’s closing day Sunday, September 29, at 5:00pm for all unclaimed produce entries as well as the raffle drawing for the tenth annual, custom-made Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Crock, crafted and donated by local artist Luke Johnson of Johnson Pottery.

PARKING, PARKING LOTS AND SHUTTLES For safely reasons, PLEASE do not park in the alleyways. These areas need to be kept clear for emergency vehicles. Parking for the Pumpkin Festival will be available at Memorial Park, Barnesville High School, The Depot, and the Watt Center. A shuttle bus will run continuously (except during the parade) from 9:30am to 6:00pm on Saturday between the parking lots to the Depot and downtown Festival areas. The shuttle will also run again during the same times on Sunday between the parking lots, downtown and to the High School where the Classic and Antique Car Show will be held. We encourage all Festival visitors to use the shuttle as parking spots are difficult to find.
THE PUMPKIN SEED HARVEST ON SUNDAY
If you’ve been contemplating trying to grow a giant pumpkin, then you might want to attend the Pumpkin Seed Harvest on Sunday. One of the giant pumpkins, other than the first, second or third-place winners, - and only if one is available - will be cut open and the seeds distributed, two each to anyone wanting the seeds. This takes place in the King Pumpkin area, the main attraction, where everyone gathers to admire these gentle giants, get their pictures taken and trade stories.
The Daniel Stephens Family provide an interesting and educational presentation that gives everyone an inside look at a big pumpkin and how to grow one. The demonstration takes place at 2:00pm Sunday, September 29, near the Information Booth. Don’t miss this informative exhibition and get your seeds too. We’d love to see you bring in your own giant pumpkins next year! Again, this will only happen if there is a pumpkin available

Entering of agriculture products including King Pumpkin is open to anyone from anywhere. If you grew it, you can enter it. The winner of the King Pumpkin will receive $2.00 per lb. and a $100 cash prize will be awarded to the largest pumpkin grown in the local six county area. King Pumpkin entries will be accepted Wednesday, September 25, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Vegetable displays, etc. will be accepted from 9:00am to 8:00pm on Thursday, September 26. Come one, come all! BELMONT COUNTY VICTORIAN MANSION OPEN DURING PUMPKIN FESTIVAL AND WILL DISPLAY 30 QUILTS The Belmont County Historical Society invites you, your family and friends to open the door to a bygone era. Visitors of all ages thrill to the splendor and elegance of this award-winning Belmont County Victorian Mansion Museum of the Romanesque style. Located at 532 N. Chestnut St. in Barnesville, the museum creates an atmosphere where visitors can experience daily life in the Victorian era. Twenty-six rooms are skillfully restored and furnished with the elements of the day. Touring from room to room, visitors are treated to the grandeur of fine carved woodwork, moldings, mantels and doors. Even the basement, with its fine collection of tools and utensils, offers a fascinating look into the past. The Mansion Museum offers extended hours for our Pumpkin Festival visitors. The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 12:00-4:00pm and on Saturday from 10:00am7:00pm. The admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth six to 18 years old. This year, the Museum will host a Quilt Show featuring
30 quilts from the National Road Quilt Guild. The quilts will be on display throughout the mansion until September 30. A highlight of each year is the annual Christmas showing, which opens Saturday, November 16 and runs to Dec. 15. During the Christmas season, the museum is open on Friday from 5:00-8:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm. Volunteer decorators decorate all three floors and the home is resplendent in Christmas spirit and charm. It’s a holiday tradition to stop and visit. Regular guided tours are conducted from May 1 to October 1, Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00-4:00pm. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for youth six to 18 years old. AGRICULTURE & HORTICULTURE ENTRIES PROVIDE A VISUAL DISPLAY OF NATURE’S BOUNTY Agriculture and Horticulture Displays are a feast for the eyes while providing a colorful backdrop for the giant pumpkins. Many hours of labor by both the growers and the festival volunteers go into these displays and we encourage anyone to participate. Entries are accepted from 9:00am to 8:00pm on Thursday, September 26. It is a long day for the many dedicated volunteers as they work to accept entries. Gather those pumpkins,
gourds, fruits or vegetables or make a scarecrow and bring to the festival to make this 56th year a splendid agricultural display. Size limitations do apply so if you have any questions concerning restrictions or would like to volunteer to accept entries, please call the chairperson, Ashley Paprocki at 740-425-1350. MARTIN SCHUMACHER’S FAMILY WILL BE THE 2019 RIBBON CUTTERS
Norma Matko and Marty Schumacher Jr. will cut the ribbon to open the 57th annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. Their late father Martin (who passed away in February) was one of the founders of the festival.
One of the founders of the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, known in its early days as the Fall Festival, was Martin J. Schumacher, Sr. With Mr. Schumacher’s passing this past February, a true legacy was lost. Martin was actively involved with the Pumpkin Festival for many years and grew the King Pumpkin seven times in the 70’s and 80’s. When including his son, Martin Jr., the King Pumpkin was awarded to the Schumacher’s for a whopping 12 times! Farming and gardening were a family tradition for Martin and his wife Dorothy. Many may recall the Schumacher Family Pumpkin Patch on Rt. 800. It was hard to miss with hundreds of pumpkins of all sizes. This year, it is befitting that we have the family of Mr. Schumacher cut the ribbon signaling the official start of the 56th Annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival!

The 2019 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival officially kicks off at the Ribbon Cutting and Opening Ceremony on Thursday, September 26, at 5:00pm. The Festival Committee will be on hand as the Martin Schumacher Family cuts the ribbon signaling the opening of this 56th annual

QUEEN’S PAGEANT TO BE HELD SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2019 The annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Queen’s Pageant will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019, at 4:00pm at the Barnesville High School Auditorium. Girls from all over the Ohio Valley will compete for the title of Queen (age 14-18); Princess (age 10-13) and Mini Miss (age 6-9). Judging is based on a private interview. A choice of talent or sportswear modeling and evening gown/party dress modeling will begin at 4:00pm and will be open to the public. The three winners will receive a crown, sash, trophy, cash and other various prizes. The top four in each category will receive prizes and ride on a float in the Giant Pumpkin Parade. All contestants will receive a T-shirt, participation ribbon and a small gift. Relinquishing their crowns this fall

The Barnesville Mother’s Club will be sponsoring the 2019 Barnesville Mother’s Club Pumpkin Baby Contest.
Babies from birth to age two are eligible. Contestant’s parents will be given raffle tickets to sell in their quest to have their baby
named the 2019 Pumpkin Baby. Contestants who bring in the most money will be named the winner. Individuals can purchase tickets from contestants for a $1 donation. Raffle prizes will be $100, $50 and $25 in Barnesville Gold Certificates. Winners will be announced at the First Christian Church New Life Center, 219 West Church Street on Thursday, September 26, at 6:30pm. A first, second and third-place winner will be crowned. GIANT PUMPKIN PARADE 2019 BARNESVILLE PUMPKIN FESTIVAL Space will be pre-assigned this year. Forms can be downloaded from our website at www.barnesvillpumpkinfestival.com or they may be picked up at the Barnesville Chamber of Commerce office, Belmont Dodge in Barnesville or the Barnesville Enterprise. All non-registered entries (or entries received after September 25, 2019) will not be announced and will fall in at the end of the parade. Check-in will begin at 11:00am on Saturday on Roosevelt Road off of East Main Street / State Route 147. Signs will be posted. Check-in will be open until 12:45pm and all entries must

2019 PARADE GRAND MARSHALS ARE LOCAL WWII VETERANS John Anderson, Guy Atkinson, Bob Harris, Homer Luyster, Paul Luyster, Francis Plumly, Richard Steele and Henry Gallagher (recently deceased but represented by his wife, Georgie). We are proudly honoring eight local World War II veterans this year in recognition of the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Nazi-occupied France, on June 6, 1944. We owe so much to these gentleman and salute the following: John Anderson (served under General Patton), Guy Atkinson (Prisoner of War), Bob Harris (Sergeant in the Air Force), Homer Luyster (Army Corporal, served in Japan), Paul Luyster (Purple Heart recipient), Francis Plumly (Army Infantry, Prisoner of War), Richard Steele (Air Force Sergeant) and the late Henry Gallagher (Electrician in the Navy) who passed away this year on June 6th, the actual 75th D-Day anniversary. “A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it honors, the men it remembers.” – President John F. This year could mark the last major D-Day milestone to commemorate their service. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, of more than 16 million Americans who served in World War II, fewer than 500,000 were still living in 2018. The youngest of these heroes are almost all in their mid- to late 90’s and soon the voices of the Greatest Generation will be forever silent. These gentlemen put their lives on hold and answered their country’s call when it needed them most. Freedom is not free and we are better off today because of what these veterans sacrificed. So, while we still can, we honor them for their duty to our country. Thank you John, Guy, Bob, Homer, Paul, Francis, Richard and Henry. God Bless all of our Veterans!

The Pumpkin Patch will again be offering quality crafts for sale in the Elementary School gym during the 2019 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. The Pumpkin Patch includes handmade candles, painted wood items and handcrafted cloth items. Many of the past crafters will be returning for this year’s show with handmade bears, dolls, woodcrafts, wreaths and much more.
With more than 40 different crafters and a wide variety of merchandise, the Pumpkin Patch is always the place to visit for unique home decorations. As in years past, the Bethesda Senior Center will offer crafts, including its loomed rugs, for sale in the Elementary School lobby. AMAZING PUMPKIN CARVER AT THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL! A pumpkin carver will be performing his talents for the first time at this year’s Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. Gus Smithhisler of “Squashcarver” has carved giant pumpkins professionally for over 18 years. Based in Central Ohio, most of his work can be found at the renowned Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, Franklin Park Conservatory, the Ohio State Fair and that other pumpkin festival up the road. He also appeared on Halloween Wars Season 6 on the Food Network. The
Bellagio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Longwood Gardens, Garfield Park Conservatory Chicago, the Cincinnati and Indianapolis Zoos have featured his work as well as the Country Living Fair. Gus continues to hone his trade every fall when the pumpkins are in. You do not want to miss his live demonstration from 3 to 9pm on Friday near the King Pumpkin stand. For over 20 years, the unique and popular Pumpkin Porch Crafts and Gifts will again be open. Well-known area crafters prepare quality gifts and crafts all year long for this Festival event. The Pumpkin Porch is located in the historical Boswell Monument Building just north of Do it Best Hardware and next to the Cattlemen’s Steak Concession. This year, the store will be offering a large selection of pumpkin, fall and harvest
items along with Americana, primitives, chests, Ohio State, Shamrock, wreaths, birdhouses, milk cans, water sprinklers, stars, chairs, benches, pillows, wall hangings, Santa’s, snowmen, dolls and many other crafts. Hours will be: Wednesday, September 25 – 5:00pm to 10:00pm; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 26-28 – 10:00am to 10:00pm; and Sunday, September 29 – 10:00am to 5pm.
THE PUMPKIN PEDDLERS CRAFTS AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAFETERIA Join us in the Barnesville Elementary School Cafeteria during the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival for a variety of homemade and hand crafted items as well as an array of local independent consultants. Shop an assortment of primitive and country crafts, homemade dry mixes, jams and jellies, jewelry, skin care and beauty products and much more. After browsing the cafeteria,

TENTH ANNUAL PUMPKIN FESTIVAL

The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival commemorative crock will be raffled off during the 2019 Festival. This unique, one-of-akind, crock is the tenth of an annual series. Only one of these is produced each year. The crock was designed, created and graciously donated by local artist, Luke Johnson. Mr. Johnson also donates the pie plates for the winners of the pie baking contest. Prior to and during the festival, the crock will be displayed at Avenues of Barnesville, 132 E. Main Street. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1.00 for one or $5.00 for six from any Pumpkin Festival committee member, at Avenues of Barnesville or at the Information Booth during the Festival. All proceeds from this raffle benefit the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. Another way to keep this a free festival for all to enjoy. Be sure to admire this coveted crock and be on hand for the raffle drawing near the King Pumpkin area on Sunday, September 29, at 5:00pm.
Pumpkin Festival Home Decorating Contest
Attention all homeowners! Please consider decorating your homes and yards for the 56th Annual Pumpkin Festival. It’s a great way to get the community and our visitors in the spirit and you can enter to be judged. Barnesville residents and those residing within one mile of the village limits are eligible for judging. Decorations may be in any location on the exterior of the home and or lawn and must be in place by 9:00 am on Thursday, September 26. To ensure your home gets judged, please pre-register by calling Chairperson Carolyn Stephen at 740-679-2407 (home)
or at Barnesville Do It Best at 740425-1949. Halloween characters and pumpkins with faces included as part of the display will not be considered for judging. Judging will be performed by the Barnesville High School Art Club. Last year’s winners were: 1st place, The Tuckers; 2nd place, Don & Nancy Grear; 3rd place, Ashley Fucks & Chris Powel; Honorable Mention, Jodi Hunter; and Judges’ Choice, Ryan and Brittany Baker. the pumpkin vine The Pumpkin Vine will be held at the Main Street Barrel House at 137 East Main Street. Local vendors and crafters will be displayed on the first and second floor of the Eagles. There is both a front and back door entrance. They have a variety of crafts and vendors such as homemade candles, wreaths, wooden crafts and more. Vendors include Celebrating Home, Rada, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, Scentsy, Caitlin Clutches and more. The hours of operation will be Wednesday from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, Thursday from 12:00pm to 9:00pm; Friday and Saturday from 9:00am to 10:00pm; and on Sunday from 10:00am until 5:00pm.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OFFERING SOUP AND SANDWICHES, HISTORIC TOURS SOUP AND SANDWICHES: The First Presbyterian Church Deacons offer a bargain on Soup and Sandwiches on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. is and keep it one of the greatest free entertainment opportunities available in this wonderful state of Ohio. For 56 years, the Pumpkin Festival has been held in Barnesville at the end of September. Thanks to all of you who collectively make this Festival happen!
THE PUMPKIN WAGON SERVES PUMPKIN-BASED GOODIES The Pumpkin Wagon, operated by the Barnesville Area Chamber of Commerce will be ready to serve you the delicious pumpkin-based foods such as pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin donuts and pumpkin pies during the festival. The Pumpkin Wagon has become one of the most popular booths of the festival with many people coming back year-toyear to get their favorite items. Another reason the Pumpkin Wagon has become such a favorite spot is that it is staffed by many community volunteers. Many of the volunteers have served for a number of years while new ones join in to assist each year. In addition, “celebrity servers” will be manning the booth representing the local businesses many of which are dedicated members of the Barnesville Chamber of Commerce. Festival-goers really enjoy patronizing the
Pumpkin Wagon as they realize that all the profits go right back into the community to help the local area. With the Chamber of Commerce heading up the force, the profits are thereby put to use to further the interest of the businesses of Barnesville. It’s a great example of the “community supporting the community,” said John Rataiczak, Chamber Board President. On Friday, September 27, Emerald Pointe will sponsor FREE ICE CREAM from 2:00-5:00pm for Senior Citizens! ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC CAR SHOW Once again, the big highlight for Sunday, September 29, 2019, is the Antique and Classic Car Show held at the Barnesville High School campus. Registration is from 9:00am until 1:00pm on Sunday, with the show running until approximately 4:00pm. Registration fee is $15.00 on the day of the show and pre-registration is $10.00 and must be returned by September 20. Pre-registration form is online at barnesvillepumpkinfestival.com. Dash plaques and small pumpkin trophies will be given to the first 300 cars registered. The awards will be to the top 75 overall entries as well as Best of Show Trophy. A special “Jackie Huntsman Memorial Trophy” will be given by his family. Judging will be done by the Car Show Committee at approximately 4:30pm. The Beard and Mustache Contest at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival provides a lot of old-fashioned, visual fun. The contest begins at 5:30pm on Saturday, September 28 and contestants may pre-register at the Information Booth or at the Pumpkin Stage

KIDDIE TRACTOR PULL SATURDAY
The Kiddie Tractor Pull will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 5pm at the Farm Machinery Display on E. Church Street across from the Fire Department. The Union Local FFA Alumni will put on the Tractor Pull. For more information, please contact Bobby Saffell at 740-686-2261 or 740-312-3206. Sponsored by Lashley Tractor Sales. Rules and Regulations: 1. Pedal tractors will be furnished for all contestants; 2. The contestant must be able to
pedal the tractor without assistance; 3. All contestants will be give three (3) chances to get their sled moving from the starting line. All pullers will be stopped when the forward motion of the sled stops. No restarts unless called by an official. 4. The pulling tractor must stay between the lines on the pulling lane at all times. 5. If the tractor leaves the pulling lane, the official distance will be from the sled to the starting line. 6. In case of tie, a pull-off will determine the winner. 7. The three classes of contestants will be as follows: A. Class 1: 30-45 pounds B. Class 2: 46-60 pounds C. Class 3: 61-75 pounds 8. Both girls and boys up to age twelve (12) are eligible to enter. 9. The judge’s decision will be final
for all pulls and contestant weigh-ins. 10. All contestants must be present at the time of his or her pedal pull. 11. A permission slip signed by the contestants parent or guardian is required. The required signature releases the Union Local FFA Alumni from any financial liability due to an accident. 12. Registration for the pedal pull will be approximately one (1) hour prior to the start of the pedal pull. 13. Only registered contestants are eligible to participate in the pedal pull. A parent or guardian must accompany the child. 14. Spectators must remain in seats away from the pulling lane. 15. The individual contestant may accept his or her first pull or may choose to re-pull. All re-pull distances will be recorded as the official distance.

Festival Searching for Best Pumpkin Mascot The Mascot Competition will be held at the King Pumpkin area at 7:00pm on Friday, September 27. Sign up begins at 6:00pm and must be completed by 6:30pm at the Information Booth on the northwest corner of Main & Chestnut. Chairman Frank “Clem” Williams invites all ages to compete for the pumpkin-

Entries (six to eight pieces per plate) will be accepted at the judging area between 5:30pm and 6:00pm. Fudge will be judged on appearance, texture and flavor. Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest
Have you ever tried eating pumpkin pie very fast with your hands tied behind your back? That is what you will be doing if you enter the Pumpkin Pie Eating contest. It is judged on how fast you can eat, not how much. Competition in three age groups will be held in the Pumpkin Festival Pie Eating contest on Thursday, September 26, at 5:00pm on the Pumpkin Stage. Entries are taken from
4:00pm to 5:00pm in three age divisions: 5-8 years; 9-15 years; and 16 to adult. Cash prizes of $10 for 1st Place, $5 for 2nd Place and $3 for 3rd Place will be awarded. The champion pie eater also receives a trophy. Last year’s champion pie eater was Steve Rodgers, Cambridge, OH. Showcase Your Talent At Thursday’s Talent Show Showcase your talent and join in on the fun at the Amateur Talent Show. If you like to sing, play an instrument, tell jokes, dance, perform magic tricks, or if you’re just plain talented, we welcome you to participate. The Amateur Talent Show will be held Thursday, September 26 at 5:30 p.m. on the Central Stage located in the parking lot on Main Street between Cheffy Drugs and Avenues of Barnesville, with registration beginning at 5:00 p.m. Pre-registration is not necessary.
Lip-sync is not allowed and music must be on CD’s – iPods will not be accepted. Judging will be based on stage presence, ability, entertainment value, costume/ attire and crowd response. Presentations are to be no longer than three (3) minutes. Points will be deducted for any performance over three minutes. We reserve the right to refuse any act based on age and/or family appropriateness. Decision of the judges is final. Categories this year will be: Tiny Tots (ages 5-9); Itty Bitty’s (ages 10-13); Teeny Boppers (ages 14-18); Big Boppers (ages 19 & up); and Groupies (any act consisting of more than one person).

FOR THEIR 45 YEAR REUNION! Forty-five years ago, Kiddog was formed when three young men began playing music together in Barnesville, Ohio. Two of Kiddog members David Bishop, Dale Fraizer and Sam Shuman. the members, David Bishop and Sam Shuman, were classmates and began playing music in the Bishop family basement while in junior high school. In 1973, the Frazier family moved to Barnesville, Ohio. Their youngest son, Dale was a junior in high School with a 12-string guitar, a strong singing voice and desire to be in a band. Dale’s smooth lead vocal proved to be the missing piece and by spring of 1974, Dale, David, and Sam had become great friends and had melded their talents into the band that became known as Kiddog. From the beginning, Kiddog focused on writing and performing their own songs. Cutting their musical teeth in clubs like Tin Pan Alley, The Falls Club, Jurek’s and Gasber’s Fine Day Restaurant. Kiddog soon established a relationship with Jamboree USA and began opening shows at Capital Music Hall for Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Lynn Anderson and many others. The band’s first recording, “Fly Like the Wind,” received top 10 airplay on local radio stations and provided Kiddog the opportunity to perform at dozens of colleges, fairs and festivals in the mid to late 1970’s including an appearance at the second annual Jamboree in the Hills. In 1977, Kiddog recorded a 10 song LP at Soundshop Studio in Nashville, Tennessee and added two additional members, Mark Armbrecht on Bass, and Tim Carroll on Drums. Kiddog was also featured on two television broadcasts on WOUB TV in Athens, Ohio. Kiddog performs Friday, at 8pm on the Central Stage.

As youths, our members entertained audiences in concert halls throughout Europe; were part of
the first marching, singing group to perform in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade; made an unprecedented five appearances in Tournament of Roses Parade, and performed for audiences every summer at the Ohio State Fair. One-A-Chord A Cappella Quartet is a veteran vocal blend of musical talent from Barnesville, Ohio. Their spontaneous humor and audience interaction makes each performance delightfully unique. The popular group began in October 2000 as a gospel quartet. The religious roots of the quartet are deep in the Church of Christ where a cappella singing (in chapel style without instrumental accompaniment) is the standard. In fact, the very first CD released by O-A-C in 2003 was a popular gospel album entitled One Lord, One Faith. One-A-Chord has opened
shows for Little Big Town, the Vogues, the VanDells, Phil Dirt and the Dozers, the Fabulous Hubcaps, and Rick Kay and the Allnighters. The quartet has sung the National Anthem several times for the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park and their oldies music was featured there on Turn Back the Clock Night in 2003. Tony Huntsman is the baritone for One-A-Chord giving the quartet its rich, full, blending sound. He grew up in Quaker City and is now the preacher at Cedar Avenue Church of Christ in Moundsville, WV where he lives with his wife Alana and children Brayden, Peyton, and Paige. Terry McCort, the high tenor, is the most experienced singer in the group and most musically inclined. A father of four living in Barnesville with his wife Julie, he is president of
Financial Investments and a deacon East Main Church of Christ. Wes Wilson is the talented lead singer and youngest member of O-A-C. Wes is the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Ohio University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, OH, but he lives in Parkersburg, WV with his wife Roxanne and children Annistyn and Thatcher. He is also a deacon at Reno Church of Christ. Brad Wilson provides the foundation bass voice for the quartet when he can remember his riff which so frequently eludes him. He is the proud father of Wes, a chip off the old block. After 34 years of teaching and coaching in Ohio, Brad is the Recruiter for Graduate Education at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, WV. He is an elder at East Main Church of Christ in Barnesville where he lives with wife Nancy. One-A-Chord will entertain you Thursday, September 26, on the Central Stage after the Talent Show has finished around 9pm.

John Markowicz has been playing piano, organ and various other keyboard instruments for many years. An annual tradition, Kissel Amusements offers the “oneprice-all-night” special on Thursday, September 26, from 5:00pm until closing. For $10, thrill seekers can ride as long as they want and on as many rides as they wish opening night. The rides open at 12noon on Friday and at 11am on Saturday and will stay open until closing late at night of which the time depends on crowds and weather. Rides will be open on Sunday from 12noon until 5pm.
Young children and their parents are invited for games with prizes, face painting and inexpensive food during the Pumpkin Festival on Wednesday night, September 25, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church. This fun evening is sponsored by the Barnesville Area Ministerial Association. A special thanks goes out to the Key Club volunteers from Barnesville High School.

No riders unless you have a secured seat; no wagons or trailers; no passing; and no ATVs. You must have a Slow Moving Vehicle sign mounted on your tractor. Additionally, we would like to thank Lashley Tractor Sales for loaning us Kubota and Kawasaki utility vehicles used by the pumpkin committee personnel to navigate through the crowds.

The Tractor Cruise, held in conjunction with the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, will start Saturday, September 28, 2019, at 9:00am. Registration and line up begins at 8:00am in Tacoma, on the east side of Barnesville, at the TJ Jefferis’ field on Rt. 147 just east of Michelli Drive. The cruise will be 25+ miles long, so have a full tank of fuel. There will be a $5.00 entry fee and lunch will be available afterwards for a fee.

Pumpkin Festival 5K Run/Walk Slated For Saturday, Sept. 28
Come and be a part of one of the biggest Pumpkin Festivals in the country and the ever popular 5K race. Race begins at 8:30am with registration from 6:45am to 8:15am at the historical Watt Center near the Train Depot at 511 Watt Avenue in Barnesville. Voted the #1 Favorite Race in the Ohio Valley multiple times, this event has a “family reunion” type atmosphere to it. Features nearly 200 of
the beautiful, coveted, unique ceramic-fired pumpkin trophies and ceramic medallions; offers a huge smorgasboard of delicious food (including pizzas, pepperoni rolls, subs, deli-fresh sandwiches, Jessica’s famous pasta salad, Donley’s Delicious Delights home-baked cookies and muffins). There is also a FREE Kids Race – all kids win a pumpkin medallion and mini pumpkin handed to them by Batman!

USED BOOK SALE AT WATT CENTER The annual used book sale at the Watt Center is a chance to browse through the shelves and to take a break from the big crowds along Main Street. There are thousands of books available with authors and titles to interest all ages. Fiction and non-fiction selections are located throughout the historic Watt Car and Wheel Company office building at 511 Watt Avenue, just east of the Barnesville B & O Railroad Station. Ample parking is available at The Watt Center, at no charge. The sale begins with an “Early Bird Special” on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. for an entry fee of $5. Regular hours (at no entry fee) are
Thursday 4 to 8 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. On Sunday books are offered for $1 per bag full. Stop by and stock up for your winter reading. Also for sale will be The Watt Center’s annual calendar, each year featuring a subject of local historical interest. The 2020 Calendar topic celebrates Barnesville history during the early 1920s. Photographs reflecting major events are featured for each calendar month. A pictorial history book “Barnesville’s 200 Years,” reprints of R.H. Taneyhill’s “History of Barnesville, Ohio” and the J.W. Laughlin
“Memoirs of Civil War History” written in 1914 are also available. Proceeds from all sales benefit the programs and mission of The Watt Center for History & the Arts, an all-volunteer community organization. A ground floor entrance on the north side of the building, ramp and chair lifts make access to The Watt Center available to all.
