What is Locks of Love?

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers

Locks of Love Mission Statement Our mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.

Guidelines for Donating Hair • Hair that is colored or permed is acceptable. • Hair cut years ago is usable if it has been stored in a ponytail or braid. • Hair that has been bleached (usually this refers to highlighted hair) is not usable. If unsure, ask your stylist. We are not able to accept bleached hair due to a chemical reaction that occurs during the manufacturing process. **If the hair was bleached years ago and has completely grown out it is fine to donate. • Hair that is swept off of the floor is not usable because it is not bundled in a ponytail or braid. • Hair that is shaved off and not in a ponytail or braid is not usable. If shaving your head, first divide hair into multiple ponytails to cut off. • We cannot accept dreadlocks. Our manufacturer is not able to use them in our children’s hairpieces. We also cannot accept wigs, falls, hair extensions or synthetic hair. • Layered hair is acceptable if the longest layer is 10 inches. • Layered hair may be divided into multiple ponytails. • Curly hair may be pulled straight to measure the mini 1 (LJKWK 6W mum 10 inches. • 10 inches measured tip &RQWLQHQWDO 2+ to tip is the minimum length needed for a hairpiece. 419-593-3335

Paulding Exempted Village Schools (PEVS) students and staff came together on May 11 for their 2nd annual Mini-Relay for Life. High school classes and organizations ran activities for the elementary, middle school, and high school students. A new activity this year, and a crowd favorite, was the dunk tank. Cancer took the biggest hit of the day, as students, staff and RFL volunteers raised an astounding $18,669 for the Relay for Life of Paulding County. Last year, the PEVS team raised $17,000, and everyone was hoping to meet or beat that amount. Organizers of the event were middle school teachers Cherie Estle and Cheryl Schier.

The third annual Ram Mini-relay was held on May 18 at the Tinora High School. Students, staff, faculty and others participated in a number of activities during the day. About $9,000 was raised during the event. Proceeds were given to the Relay for Life of Defiance County, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Shown walking in front of the participants are Kadin Delarber, Cole Commisso and Trent Wiemken.
