The dedication ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in front of the Stewart Schoolhouse with music performed by a select group from the Stow-Munroe Falls High School Band. Boy Scout Troop 273 will begin the ceremony with the Flag Presentation at 2:15 p.m. Anne E. Hanson will be the Mistress of Ceremony for the dedication with Pastor Jim Case providing the opening prayer. Several people will give brief presentations on the history of the Heritage Reserve Park and the OSH Project. Linda Trevorrow will be speaking about the Donor Recognition System, which will be followed by the Donor Garden ribbon cutting by John Pribonic and Steve Hailer. Stow Mayor Sara Kline will be dedicating the restored Stewart Schoolhouse, including the ribbon cutting by Houston Morgan and Ed Williams. Almost four years after its historic move, the Old Schoolhouse will formally take its place with the other historical homes in Stow. The Stow Historical Society will be dedicating the “Stewart Schoolhouse” on July 2 at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Park Reserve area of Silver Springs Park off Young Road. The 2017 Stow Fourth of July parade grand marshal will be a position in the plural. This year’s parade theme is “Salute to Veterans” so the committee planning the parade decided to invite any Stow residents who have served in the military to take part as multiple grand marshals.
The annual parade is sponsored by the city of Stow Parks and Recreation Department and the Kiwanis Club of Stow-Munroe Falls. Stow Parks and Recreation Director Linda Nahrstedt said that originally, the parade committee reached out to the community to find the city’s oldest living veteran to serve as grand marshal. Nahrstedt estimated that 20 to 25 veterans or family members of veterans contacted the city and the plan changed.

With the spotlight on businesses and the community, the Stow-Munroe Falls Chamber of Commerce will host its 44th Pride Community Breakfast on June 28. The “full country breakfast” and ceremonies will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Acker-Moore Memorial Post, 3733 Fishcreek Road in Stow. During the event, the Chamber and the Stow Sentry will announce the Business Person of the Year award. This will be the 39th year the newspaper and the Chamber have joined to honor a businessperson for his or her work and community involvement. Other awards to be announced are Volunteer of the Year and Friend of the Community. Last year’s winners were Carley Kruse of Teresa’s Pizza, Business Person of the Year; Kathy Romito, community relations manager at Western Reserve Hospital, Volunteer of the Year; and Dick and Marty Dennis, Friend of the Community. They will introduce this year’s award winners, which have traditionally been kept a surprise until that morning’s announcement. The Chamber will also acknowledge three high seniors chosen to receive $1,000 scholarships. The scholarships were made possible by the generous contributions of the Chamber’s President’s Club. In 2017, one DECA student from Stow-Munroe Falls High School, was awarded a scholarship to attend a week-long business camp at Ohio University, July 16-22, on a scholarship offered through Ohio Business Week. Students attending the camp will practice tackling real business-world challenges while having a college experience with students from several states. The DECA Club at Stow-Munroe Falls High School contributed to funding the DECA student’s scholarship and camp fee, in addition to the President’s Club contributors, to fully fund the week-long adventure.
