Public Square Project This project start with series of material studies that investigated properties and and tested the performative limits or boundaries of building matter in order to understand how form can be manipulated to construct spatial relationships. Physical models are translated into parametric digital models produced through the use of animation that allow a range of tectonic conditions from planar to volumetric, open to close, and structure to surface. The utilized system that were aggregated and transformed in consideration of imagined external pressure of site and internal programmatic potentialities.

Montessori School Project In this project, “change as a fundamental condition of Architecture the studio sought out locations and models of material change in social fields. Varied strange and everyday movements of social exchange provide a sense and ultimately graphic evidence of change in derection, momentum, rhythem, and response of the intricate behaviors. They demostrate remarkable shift in authority engagement, boundaries, and connections and they show subtle and volatile evolving dynamic of agents. Critically, these events demand an agile and responsive conceptualization in media. My combined interests in context and adaptation recognizes that context is an evolving field adapting to material introduced into its territory just as that material adapts to the existing field. I recognized that context or site are not so much fixed and stable entities as they are adapting in a flux of varying waves of intensity across multiple territories. The principle context is a hillside in Staten Island and elementary education are rework through coevolving, intertwined and discrete propositions. The drawing is based on the fight during the soccer match. In the video there are two main soccer players and others. this drawing starts with heading the ball between two players, onE of them get pushed in the back then begin to turn arround and punch the other player. they roll on the ground and their teammates try to join the fight. the dash line here represent the movments of thoses two players’ attention change.

Soccer players fights drawing

This drawing is based on how the children study in Montessori Pre school. They originaly sit arround with their teacher, focus their attentions on the toy that teacher played with. With the movement of the toy and the teacher’s hand, their attention began to follow the change in field. and I decide to put the toy and the teachers hand to be the major event. The major event has connected with students’ attentions, which in my project, the major event is the Atrium , their rooms act as students have thier excesses to the Atrium.

The site diagram here represents three main major studies in site which are geological study, social study and biological study. The site here is a slop goes down at northeast direction, the darker line here shows the boundary of the site, which has stairs, retaining wall, fences, railing , also street around the site and the sea that can be seen from the site. Dashed line here is the green area which is biological study which contains grass cover the whole site and partial of unbuilt area. not only grass, there are bushes along the site walk and trees on the site. some of them are cut only trunk left. Furthermore,St. Mark pl., the street at the higher level which is at the bottom of the diagram is a one way street, cars only go form left to right. there is a high school and a few of play grounds close to the site. How ever, it’s still quiet compare with the other side of the site Carroll pl. carroll pl. is a two-way-street. the circulation is heavier than St. Mark pl. The stairs connect these two streets together provide convenience for pedestrians.

RESIDENCE HOUSE

SITE PLAN

From the diagam in video, which is the two players fight arround, I have create my surfaces based on the the line drawing and I put the force at the side of the surface which is the attention change of the two players from the ball to eachother, to manipulate the shape of the surface , make it like player rolling and fighting. Also, from my montessori diagram, by having a deep research on the behavior of the students and the teacher, I found out the middle part which is the toy and the hand of teacher are the major event in the drawing. When teacher play the toys, with the change of the toy, the attention from the students are changed at the same time, which the vectors are changed with the major event. From this inspiration, I realized that I might have major events in the middle of my building just the same as my Montessori diagram. Since the most important rooms in school are classrooms, I decide to create large space in the middle to form as classrooms, with this idea, afte manipulating the force of the surface, my cloth finally come to this shape. Those footages below are every 10 frames the surface play. There are pespective views and section views. For the aggregation of the surface, I chose six surfaces, which include a large surface at the top to generate the largest space and 5 smaller surfaces to create paths and other smaller rooms for the school. The largest surface tears at the middle and rotate at the middle, the force blow the middle part up to generate a ridge.

QingPu Bridge Animation Project The project designed layered, dynamic surface engines. Originating from research about connective infrastructrual systems and bridges into sequential systems of morphological behavior. Models derive structural or performative systems through inputs such as kinematics, environmental activators or stimuli, then were systemically evaluated on spatial, structural and environmental criteria. approaches, and blending techniques were nested and potentially annotated with these final investigations. In this animation, QingPu Bridge is used as a model to develope its morphological behavior. The structure of QingPu Bridge is steel trusses and bolts, Therefore, steel trusses can be extend and moved freely in this animation by using bolts. Further, when its truss extend or change locations, the bridge itself can also be curled or stretched as a worm. That finally can completely turn into a car. in

Curve Curtain Maya Mel Project Curve is one of the most fundamental shape in the nature. Plant roots, winding river, mountains and typhoon all have the characteristics of the curve from the morphological point of view. Looking back to the historical development of human society, Many forms of industrial products such as streamlined, ergonomic furnitures are inspired by curve. Curves are changed in every second. it won’t have a rigid path to follow so that we may feel comfortable about this shape from the nature. Curve is just like the human body full of warmth and appeallingness. In today's minimalist philosophy in architectual field, Designers set their sights on rigid geometric shapes to create simple strcuture and abandoned all superfluous lines and decoration. Architect AntonioGaudi once said: "curve is the nature of the lines. Curve allows our buidings to be more ecological and more humane. But why curve?Except the aesthetic view of curve shape, it also can aviod the hard corner from the intersction of the space to make the space more gentle, suitable for living. No rigid rectangle, no right angle, but a arc full of poetic., just like a building with a organic growth. My task here is about to use maya scripting skill to generate curves, that randomly goes different directions but also connects two buildings as a building facade. proc makeCurve( int $times, float $distance){ float $ranz,$rany; string $makec; $count = 0; $makec = "curve -d 3 "; for ($time = 1;$time <= $times;$time++){ for($count = 0;$count<=$distance;$count++){ $ranz = `rand 4`; $rany = `rand 4`; if($time%2 == 1){ $makec = $makec + " -p " + rand(($count.5),($count+.5)) + " " + $rany + " " + $ranz + " "; } else{ $makec = $makec + " -p " + rand(($distance -$count-.5),($distance - $count+.5)) + " " + $rany + " " + $ranz + " "; } } eval($makec); } makeCurve(4,20); global proc string nthd_extrude(){ string $list[] = `ls -sl`; string $gname; string $result[]; print("Extruding:"); print($list); $gname = `group -em`; $profile = $list[0]; $ch = `constructionHistory -q -tgl`; $i = 1; while($i < size($list)){ $result = `extrude -ch ($ch) -rn false -po 0 -et 2 -ucp 1 -fpt 1 -upn 1 -rotation 0 -scale 1 -rsp 1 $profile ($list[$i])`; parent $result[0] $gname; $i++; } return $gname; } nthd_extrude(); 13

Maya Unit 3D Print Project Here is the unit that I design .It basic generated by five pentagons. Then five holes were selected and cut on each pentagon. Later, I extruded the holes from different directions and give the length to the middle hole extrusion. finally, mirror geometry was applied on the unit to duplicate two same shapes and combine them as one unit. This units was initially designed as a pen holder, but with the design of in-depth, I found that it not only can be used as a pen container, it can also aggregate. The time when it is combined, the interior space can be the circulation area and the exterior is also more smooth . After creating this 3D unit in maya, 3d print was used to make physicall model.

The Gowanus Canal Dwelling Project The modern city has evolved over time basically along one of two forms of development: it either undergoes continual transformation and adjustment subject to the economic fluctuations, technological advancements, the shifting status of institutions, changing modes of living and work, and many other manifestations of modern culture. Or, parts of the city are legislated to be preserved, maintaining it’s original historic form, thus denying the influence of external forces. In the former, changes are based on direct translation, in which the city becomes a referential index, or physical manifestation of external causes; the latter is marked by the resistance to all change, in which the context becomes a rigid, immutable structure which suppresses any expression of cultural transformation or desire. From the site map of this project, we can easily found out that many of the streets are covered with green vegetations but only the place where we are trying to build our dwelling has few trees. Therefore, my initial purpose was to extend the green into the Gowanus Canal and connect the trees with the other side of the canal. Volumetric disjunction can develop points of fracture, or breakage which become the locus of unique public events, and articulate the singular mass into multiple fields of differing identity. The fracture can be articulated through cutting and shifting to break surface alignment, maintaining orthogonal relationships. Shifting, or realigning portions of the mass off the orthogonal axis. Slicing, shifting, replacing portions of mass with surface, and/or adding new volumes as transitional junctures.

Clybourn Train Station Project The project is to develop a collaborative approach across disciplines that can produce architecture that is able to integrate system at the scale of the building and make connections to infractructural net works at the urban scale. The project was to design a Train station locates at 2001 North Ashland Avenue, Chicago. IL. By analyzing the size, we found that the track on the site starts from one single point and bifurcates into two directions. It inspired us to design a train station that bifurcates like the track. And also By studying the circulation diagram, we connected the points of interest to our origin point with lines and increase the lines depends on the number of people flow.

Clybourn Train Station Animation Project By using Maya, Green Screen, After Effect and Adobe Premiere Pro, this project is mainly about creating a fictional story around an architectural project, in here is Clybourn Train Station.

Plot Three years ago, a pair of lovers separated because the boy had to study architecture in NY. They decided to meet again at the same train station three years later after his graduation. Time flies, three years later, he returned to the same location. The train station has been rebuilt, new entrance, new waiting area, new stores, new trians, nothing like before. Will she come and keep their promise? The clock is ticking, trains are coming and leaving, is she coming ? He is still waiting. The familiar high heel sound is approaching . Boy turns around.

30

Istanbul Olympic White Water Course One of the prevalling architectural problems of our time is our relationship to history. Currently, two rather dysfunctional versions have taken hold. Urban history faces either death by destruction or death by preservation. And yet, if history is part of our identity, new approaches are urgently needed to avoid irreversible amnesia and the permanent loss of identity. The site and program for this project separately and jointly represent a compelling example of the strong forces of past and future. Typocally, this kind of encounter would be decribed as a collision, however, if new ways of thinking about history are to be pursued, it is critical not to remain within these de-fault-lines as they inevitably lead to the destruction/preservation paradigm. In order to pursue one such non-default alternative, this project followed an affinities-based approach. This approach does not emphasize a conceptual cut between history and present but rather continuing or re-emerging affinities between the two. We used geometry and topology to investigate and deploy these affinities throughout the project. As a society we regard architecture as a carrier of culture and material inheritance. Is there a ways of developing strategies of inheritance that fall outside the territory of typology? What role can Variable Multiples ( cell variations) play in revealing and creating affinities? Can topological cells be embedded with historic DNA-as in surface form, geometry, pattern and social protocols?

Program includes: reception, cafe, changing rooms, admin offices, spectator viewing facilities and water pump/filtration plant Facts and figures for the 300m Olympic course: Up to 15 cubic metres (3,300 gallons) of water per second recirculated through course enough to fill a 25m swimming pool in 30 seconds Height drop of up to 5.5m from start to finish Water speed through course in excess of 7mph in places Boat conveyor transports participants to the start without leaving their rafts or canoes Main shape Two Loops (Olympic and Training) Length Olympic: 300 metres (984 ft), Training: 160 metres (525 ft) Drop Olympic: 5.5 metres (18 ft), Training: 1.6 metres (5 ft) Slope Olympic: 1.8% (97 ft/mi), Training: 1.0% (53 ft/mi) Water source Groundwater Practice pool

Maya LebroNdynamic Project Animation & Computation focuses on transforming traditional digital animation techniques into form generation devices for architectural design. In particular, I will focus on building interactive, per-formative models for the evaluation of architectural geometries. Architects have been employing “computation as a design strategy and/or tool for years. It is seen as a way of engaging problems that were too complex to engage without the use of algorithms. The implementation of computation in architecture has traditionally been through a set of tools to manage data as bits and bytes, more specifically through scripting. The employment of computer algorithms (scripting) is, however, preceded by the use of analog computational models to engage issues of complexity in architecture. Computation and Animation will introduce an alternative method for engaging the power of computation as a design tool through the transformation of traditional animation tools into computational modeling devices. Opaque computational devices such as scripting will be supplanted with a set of tools that are more interactive, visually responsive, and intuitive. In this project, which is an animation is about using a footage of NBA player Lebron James dunking to generate interesting complex digital forms. Autodesk Motion Builder was used to create a moving model of Lebron James and Maya hairline, Joints, particle instancers and dynamic constrains were used to generate form from the motion of Lebron James dunking.

The Zombie Headquarter what will you design if the human race will end very soon? What heritage you want to leave for the world? I want to design a headquarter for zombies. I see zombies as generation of new race that above all human beings. They eat human’s brains and fleshes, and eventually, they will rule the world and perish all humans.

PLOT In the year 2044, U.S scientists invented a virus to destroy cancer cells. A month later, the virus are launched in the market without suffcient tests, due to the urge of great profit. But then the side effects of the virus spreads, it can turn a living human into a zombie. The zombie virus spread quickly to New York and turns New York into a City of Living dead. Most of the New Yorkers are infected and turned into zombie. National army failed in the war with the zombies, the government has been dissolved, and the world return to the most primitive savage and barren. Only less than a few hundreds human survived by hiding themselves in sewage eating expired can foods. They already give up for fighting back since the amy failed. The extinction of mankind is just a matter of time.

It is the best of time for zombies and it is the worst of times for all human.
