From the Board Parents, What a great season of football it was for the Junior Knights. We expanded this year by adding a 4th & 5th grade teams and they played in the North Metro Football League. This brought on more volunteers and responsibilities that the board took on and with all the help from parents it turned out awesome. Amy Poteet and Lisa Anderson deserve a standing ovation for all the hard work and time they put in to make this a great season. I personally want to thank both ladies for a great job and IJ Rosenberg and Kathy Lopez for growing the program. The board would also like to thank all the coaches and parents for all their efforts and time to make the experience as good as possible for the players. This year is proof that hard work pays off, after going 0-8 in 6th grade the 7th grade team went 4-4 and made the playoffs with many injuries in the beginning of the season. Hats off to Coach Einstein and his staff for an incredible accomplishment. Remember, as a board we are only as good as the volunteers that help us so I ask that all parents try to help in 2011. Thanks, Matt Risse
From the head varsity coach Someday, your son will move out of the house (we hope) and pursue a career. The statistics show that his career most likely won’t be in football. But are there some life lessons that the game of football can help you transfer to your son? I tell our varsity kids all of the time that other sports are great (I lettered in football, baseball, and soccer) but the lessons a boy learns thru football are closer to real life than lessons he can playing any other sport. Football is a demanding game mentally, physically, emotionally, and we play in an area of the country where it is a passion. People, other than parents, pay attention to football. Other sports offer a young man some of those challenges, but no other sport offers all of them. Teamwork Football requires a pretty unique brand of teamwork. When you’re a part of a football team (sometimes with up to 90 other players), understanding your role and that of your teammates is critical. Trusting them to do their job is also of utmost importance. Even guys on the 2nd and 3rd string play a definitive role that helps the overall group. The emotional ups and downs that a team will experience help to build trust over time. Discipline Football requires the player to discipline himself and to work hard. There is also a beautiful life lesson in the scrutiny and evaluation process. From high school on up, every move in practice and games is evaluated by coaches and fellow players through film. This is a wonderful thing, because it allows for growth and accountability. As his parent, you’ve been evaluating him since birth. It helps him to have other mentors and friends evaluating his performance. This is like life, where if we hope to improve and grow, we have to take responsibility for that growth, and surround ourselves with people who can help. Perseverance Football provides a variety of challenges that will test (and help to build) your son’s perseverance. He loses a big game. He doesn’t make 1st team. He misses a play that results in a touchdown for the other team. He struggles as other players develop strength and quickness before he does. These are all things that will challenge your son emotionally, and might tempt him to quit. But if he sticks with it, there will be a payoff in the end. You’re the parent. You see what he doesn’t, so help him through those things. Goal Setting There are a lot of things that a football player does that can be measured. Where there’s measurement, there’s a chance to set goals for improvement. He might set a goal to get his 40 yard dash down to a certain time. Maybe he could try to increase his weight training maximums, or catch a certain number of passes in a season. He will also be exposed to lots of team oriented goals, which will help him be accountable for his part to the overall team. We all should grow and improve ourselves, and football can help him get started on the right foot with good goal setting habits. A High You Can’t Buy My head coach in high school always said, “It’s a high you can’t buy,” when talking to us about our success in football. This game can create a huge adrenaline rush. Fighting and scrapping with all you have alongside your teammates, and being successful, even in one play, is a moving experience. It can teach your son that there are healthy, productive ways to pursue adventure and “highs” in this life. How many stories have we heard about boys being kept grounded and out of trouble by the camaraderie and mentorship they’ve received in football? This list is not all inclusive, but the bottom line comes back to you, the parent. It’s important that you take the initiative to help him process what’s going on. If you do, it will be far more than just a game; it will be a vehicle to help your son achieve greater things later in life. Thank you for your time, and GO KNIGHTS!! Coach Jeff Measor

To our 8th grade players, parents, and coaches, Thank you so much for the opportunity to coach and lead your sons in the great game of football. The 8th Grade Junior Knights football team did not quite meet our expecations from a win/loss persective, but it did exceed our expectations in other areas. We coaches saw a lot of growth from a lot of our players. We all believe we were a better team than our final record shows. In most of our games, a few plays made the difference between winning and losing. Although I hate to lose, I hope our kids used those losses to make them better in the future. We are fortunate to have some great kids on our team and in our families. I look forward to seeing them mature and turn into great young men in high school. Again this year you heard the importance of academics in your life. Every practice I asked “What is the most important thing in your day tomorrow?” The ONLY correct answer was school (although there were some creative responses as well.) Almost all of took that to heart and I enjoyed reading your progress reports and the comments from your teachers regarding your leadership/participation/attitude/etc. Some of you still have some academic work to do if you are planning on playing football in high school. Always remember, when sports are over for you and you put away your equipment, your education and the things you have learned will always be there. Nobody can take that away. Last year I encouraged each of you to continue to work at being stronger, faster, and quicker. As you transition from youth football to high school football, it will be even more important to continue to develop physically. In the spring, you will be expected to start lifting weights and condition year round with the varsity coaches. I strongly encourage you not to wait until then. Some of you players still struggle with pushups. Make them a daily discipline. Do them when you get out of bed in the morning. Create a chart and track your progress. In terms of running, make it a habit to run three times a week for thirty minutes if you are not doing some other organized sport. Only you can do the work, I am encouraging you to be disciplined and get stronger and faster. To the parents, team mom and dad, and all the volunteers, thank you so much for all the support and passion you brought to this season. We (the Junior Knights programs) are only as successful as you parents make allow us to be. Your commitment will be especially important as our sons transition to high school. I truly appreciate each and every one of you and your contributions to this year! Coach David Barton

Players and Parents, It has been an honor and privilege to be the head coach of the 7th grade Centennial Junior Knights football team, and I'm extremely proud of the way our team responded after a tough 2009 season. While we had a slow start to the 2010 campaign, the team persevered and overcame many obstacles throughout the season. The team was persistent and it was noticeable that all of their efforts were focused on wanting to becoming a better football team. A prime example of this, was winning the last game and advancing to the playoffs! It goes without saying our success on the field can be attributed to hard work, dedication, and keeping a positive mental attitude. The team is not only physically gifted, but also demonstrated the mental ability to stay focused on our team goals, which ultimately led to a strong finish to the season. Players, it was my strong desire for you to win as a football team, and you exceeded my expectations by making the playoffs. You achieved success as a team, and you matured as individuals. It's amazing the accomplishments you can achieve if you truly strive to win….this is true on and off the field. Each one of you set personal and team goals, a binding commitment to the coaches, to the team, and more importantly, to yourselves, and you all were successful in carrying out the mission at hand. I hope you all have enjoyed the football season and walked away with many valuable lessons from your experience. The foundation has been set as a football team, and I hope you all keep building upon the success you achieved this year and carry on the Centennial tradition for a number of years to come. Parents, thank you very much for your cooperation throughout the football season. Your support of the program and the team went above and beyond what I had expected. To all the parents who volunteered their time to help with the games it was very much appreciated. The coaching staff is looking forward to having everyone back next season. As I've mentioned multiple times throughout the season, this journey is just the beginning as a Centennial Knight football player and with the continuation of hard work, your futures look very promising. Please continue to work hard in the off season and we look forward to next year. Go Knights! Seth Einstein - Head Coach

Dear Parents and Players, From 6th grade coaching staff, I want to thank the parents for allowing us to coach your sons, it is truly a privilege that we did not take lightly and hopefully we had a positive influence on the players. We are extremely proud of the effort each player gave during practices and games. When we begin in the spring, I mentioned the commitment it would take over the course of the season to play at this level. I want to congratulate each player that did not give up and continued to work hard. Our win/loss record does not indicate how much we improved and learned from the first practice in the spring to the last game of the season. Remember as a player on our team, you are responsible to encourage each other on and off the field and to do your very best in the classroom. The 3 things that will make you a better player and person are commitment, determination, and hard work. Always believe in yourself, remain confident and never quit at anything you want in life. Parents, I cannot thank you enough for making this season a success, from the carpooling to practices and games, to providing snacks at the last practice prior to the bye week and oranges at halftime. Your efforts did not go unnoticed and were instrumental in allowing the coaching staff to concentrate preparing the player to be competitive in games and learning in practice.

Dear 5th Grade Players, Parents and Coaches, What an incredible season with so many firsts. We are the first 5th grade team to play under the Centennial Junior Knights Program. We had 11 first time players play their first season of tackle football. It was Coach Risse’s first year as a Head Coach. We had three first time assistant coaches. We were the first and only Centennial team to win a playoff game this year. With all the first time players, coaches we made many first downs and improvements. Our year started with some difficult teams and we had to learn to play football without mistakes before we could win our first game. Everyone thinks football is won with fast, large and athletic players but I disagree. Football games are won with head, heart and hustle. We preached to the players to use their head, play with heart and always hustle and good things will come. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed coaching these fine young men. I hope that every player had as much fun as I did this season. Records are not what we measure success with but by how much fun and improvement we had. The two games that stand out are the last two. After being down 33 to 7 at half time and we didn’t quit and almost won the game 46 to 39. Scoring 32 points in one half was incredible. And the best highlight was winning the playoff game against the Tigers. I want to thank all the parents, especially Laura the Team Mom, Sri the Team Dad, Deepti the Videographer, LuAnn the Trainer, especially my Assistants Bob, Mike and Anthony. As the players have to play as a team so do the parents and coaches to accomplish so much this year. I look forward to coaching each and every player for years to come and hope to be cheering for them on Friday Nights. Go Knights!! Coach Risse

Congratulations to the 4th Grade Jr. Knights on an exciting and awesome inaugural season. I am so proud of all of you and how well each of you played your first year as a Jr. Knight. You should be very proud of your accomplishments for it took alot of guts to make it from the first hot summer practice to the playoffs – you fought hard and played an outstanding season. It’s not always the fastest player or the biggest player that succeeds – it’s the one with the most heart that wins. Assistant Coaches/Parents - thank you so much for all of your support and all of your hard work throughout the season. From the practice field – and at the games – you parents always cheered us on to fight hard - we absolutely could not have done it without you. We have the best set of parents in the whole world and appreciate all that you do. Special thanks to our team mom Liz Barton for all your hard work getting us certified and ready to play each week – WE LOVE YOU!! I am so proud to be your Coach and look forward to another great season next year. GO KNIGHTS!! Coach Howard Daniel
