This Portal, That Portal, Everywhere A Portal! Making heads or tails of all the portals available
Are you confused about the Portal, SharePoint, inSite, the Staff and Faculty pages; what an intranet is; which portal is meant for you; how the portals are being used; what you can do and cannot do; and what the future plans are for these portals? Then this training seminar is for you! In this training seminar we will be taking a grand tour of the four portals that LMC and District Office have to offer; how you can use them in your daily tasks, and what is expected of you.

Internet: A global system of interconnected computer networks to serve billions of users worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private, public, academic, business, and government networks.
Intranet: An intranet is a secure private Web site that shares part of an organization's information or operational systems. And, is not for public viewing. Example: LMC SharePoint, District SharePoint
Portal: portals present information from diverse sources in a unified way. Portals provide a way for organizations to provide a consistent look and feel. They provide security and access to multiple applications and databases, which otherwise would have been different entities altogether. Example: LMC SharePoint, District SharePoint, and inSite
SharePoint: A Microsoft developed Web portal (software application) that allows an organization to provide diverse information in a unified way. “One stop shopping.”
Example: LMC SharePoint, District SharePoint, and inSite
Extranet: Can be viewed as part of an intranet that is extended to users outside the organization, usually via the Internet. Example: inSite allows students and employees access

In the future it can be accessed at the top navigation on every page ◦ Open access. Anyone can access information that is posted here. Some areas will include links to password protected areas such as LMC SharePoint, inSite or District Office Intranet. ◦ Various resources open to the public ◦ This will be decided on an individual basis. What is LMC SharePoint?
In any campus browser type “lmcsharepoint” No http:// or www. Necessary You can access LMC SharePoint remotely from home: Click here for instructions
Where is LMC SharePoint?
Domain computers will not ask you to log in. LMC SharePoint always knows who you are. When logging into a nondomain computer you must log in. If it asks for you to log in, you must type the following format for your user name: losmedanos\username Your user name and password are the same as when you log into your LMC account.
