LEGO Robotics provides a medium to expose students to engineering design and computer programming. Now you can learn how to build and program LEGO robots during this full-day hands-on workshop. During this workshop, teachers learn to use robotics to engage their students in real world problem-solving and collaborative learning while learning math, science, and technology concepts at a concrete level. Attendees will receive a LEGO Mindstorms NXT Robotics kit and LEGO Mindstorms Education software. Districts are encouraged to send grades 4-12 teachers to this session. Cost: $360 per registrant. Workshop will also include an overview of the use of Vernier science probes with the LEGO Mindstorms kit. Districts are encouraged to send grade 4-12 teachers to this session. The LEGO WeDo Robotics kit provides an easy-to-use means to introduce young students to robotics and develop their skills in science, technology, engineering and math. Leadership University Online Professional Development Powerful Beginnings: Getting Started with iPods and iPads This course will offer an introduction to the iPad/iPod in your classroom. Over four weeks, we hope that you have numerous opportunities to grow and learn professionally from this course and from one another. Our focus for the course is to help those who are just entering the mobile technology journey with their iPods or iPads. Some participants may have one device that they hope to use in their teaching and others may have numerous student devices. We hope that this course will help build a foundation for everyone! Course Logistics: The only requirement for this course is that you have an iPod or iPad for the entire length of the course. This will be essential every each week.
Technology Styled Formative Assessment Educators know that data can tell us about what our students know and can do, but when educators dig deeper into data, and routinely assess students, more knowledge can be gained by both the student and the teacher. Using formative assessments, which are a variety of formal and informal assessment methods used by teachers during the learning process in order to modify teaching strategies and learning activities to improve student achievement, and summative assessments, which are course/year end assessments used for evaluating both the student/teacher, teachers can improve their instruction to meet students’ needs and increase achievement. This course will focus on formative assessments, the data derived from them, what to do with that data, and ideas for formative assessments that can be used Pre-K-12th Grade.
STEM in the 21st Century Foster your students’ natural abilities to create and innovate in a way that connects STEM disciplines! This course is designed to offer K-12 teachers an opportunity to broaden their knowledge on STEM teaching techniques and implement a technology-based STEM lesson in their classroom. The course content is organized by grade levels in an attempt to present the most relevant material.
Leadership University Online Professional Development Light the Fire in Common Core with Web 2.0 This course is designed to teach you the basics of Web 2.0 tool integration and alignment with Common Core State Standards. Strategies for implementing the Common Core State Standards into all grade and content areas will also be addressed as well as offering you technology integration tools for the classroom. Explore and review detailed examples on ways to teach to the Common Core through fun and engaging web-based tools and offer additional resources, such as actual lesson plans, that will give you many ideas and "take-ways" to use with your students!
Write to Learn - Technology and Writing Across Curriculums This innovating workshop explores the shifts in Common Core writing in the content areas. The course is further divided into the three disciplines of writing: persuasive, informational, and narrative. Classroom vignette videos take the stress out of integrating Common Core writing into the curriculum, illustrating how effective teachers engage students in the three disciplines of writing. Educators discuss and share ideas for effectively integrating technology into writing activities. There is a wealth of teacher resources for writing instruction in all disciplines, writing ideas, student samples, and technology tools organized by content area, to assist you with creating a make-and-take writing activity to use in your classroom.
Infusing Technology in Project Based Learning Do you want to add “wow” to your classroom? Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to learn how educators all over the world are using technology to infuse Project Based Learning in their curriculum. Designed to be information rich, and low stress, each participant will exit with one outline for a project based lesson and a multitude of ideas and resources for others. Save hours of your precious time as all the links are provided. Participants will be introduced to over 40 different web-based and app-driven tools and will be able to choose which tools they want to explore indepth. Just as Project Based Learning is inherently differentiated, this course is structured in such a way that it allows each student to take away the tools that will be most beneficial to their individual classrooms. Through the extensive use of discussion forums, collaboration, and interaction with peers will add to the rich learning environment.
