This project is designed as a single person residence located next to a quarry located just outside of Blacksburg, Virginia. The design allows the inhabitant to be within nature while also having some protection from the elements. The path of the changing levels of the structure follow the path of the slope of the hill, allowing rain to fall down the hill and down the residence.

belle isle INTERVENTION
Bell Isle is a small pedestrian island located in the James River in Richmond, Virginia. The program asked to create an intervention for the visitors on the island. It was asked to not be a typical visitor’s center. The design of this intervention was one that would allow a visitor refuge from the elements of nature while still allowing them to be in the environment. The arrangment of the panels mimicks some of the other rundown structures on the island while allowing one to enter the structure from any side. The intervention is placed on the crossroads of three roads, forming a triangle to allow passage from either road to another.

This weekend long competition was to design a new train station to revitalize the town of Clifton Forge, Virginia. The large curving glass facade faces towards the town of Clifton Forge, drawing its inhabitants and visitors into the space and revitalizing the interest in the trainstation. With a large open floor space, the station is reopened not only for travel but for exhibits or events that look back at the town of Clifton Forge’s history. The new station becomes a tribute and a museum to the culture and history of the town.

APARTMENT COMPLEX for downtown roanoke
The site of this complex is on the corner of Williamson Road and Franklin Road in downtown Roanoke, VA. This site is located just outside of the South-East corner of the downtown historic district. It is an anchor point of where the downtown meets the residential districts of the city.
second FLOOR
The second floor apartment is a loft apartment. The first floor is an open floor plan, organized through the use of columns. The living room opens up to the outside through a double layered patio space. The double sliding glass doors allow for varying system of opening and closing the living space to the outside. The bedroom is located in the open loft with a catwalk that takes the inhabitant to the study.
