Clean Up Australia Day Friday 4th March

Page 1 - Berwick Fields Primary School Newsletter

On behalf of School Council I would like to welcome you to the start of a very exciting 2011 at Berwick Fields. We have definitely hit the ground running this year with so much happening, so I hope you all got a chance at some relaxation over the Christmas break in preparation for a year of Berwick Fields Celebrations! As has become tradition over the holiday break new buildings were completed on site, fresh painting has happened around the school and many landscaping changes and additions have appeared giving our school grounds a fabulous look, and these are just a few of the changes you may have noticed! Our committee met on Monday 21st February and as per our usual agenda we passed our previous meeting (Dec 10) minutes, financial statements and records of incoming and outgoing mail. At the beginning of each school year School Council needs to endorse the Fundraising/Canteen Activities regarding GST, School Purchase Cards, School Orders and Financial Commitment Summary. These are annual requirements and were also done on Monday night. The Investment Policy was also presented and after a discussion was referred back with a recommended change so this will be represented at the March meeting. Learning Community Reports were presented to members. These reports include the areas of Health & Wellbeing, Community Development, Essential Learnings and School Improvement. In our report from Stephen, under School Improvement, we discussed the ‘summary of progress milestones’ that were set for 2010 for our School Strategic Plan in the areas of ‘Student Learning’, ‘Student Engagement and Wellbeing’ and ‘Student Pathways and Transition’. In the vast majority of cases we were able to achieve all the milestones that were set. Parents and Friends requested and received approval to run events in term 2 and I am sure you will look forward to hearing about these very soon. Community Development presented a ‘Transition’ Policy for approval and after a discussion this policy has been referred back to consider how we can support students who come into our school during the year. This policy will also be represented to School Council at our March meeting. This was our last meeting as the current committee. Our new committee will meet next month, so I would like to thank all members of School Council for the respect, enthusiasm, friendliness and co-operation that they not only have shown towards me but to each other over the last twelve months. It has been an absolute pleasure to be able to work with such a dedicated team ensuring all the children at Berwick Fields receive the best possible educational experience. ‘Together We Achieve’ – It really is true! My role as President was made a lot easier because so many people were willing to offer help or support and in sharing their knowledge and experiences and I am extremely appreciative of this. THANK YOU! Thank you to our parent members Adam Wight, Abir Yacoub, Bryan O’Reilly, Thad Roos and staff members Courtney Bennetts and Dale Mills who have completed their two year term. If they would like to continue on School Council they must renominate. School Council will meet again on March 21 st as a new committee for 2011. More information regarding School Council and nominations was included in last Friday’s newsletter including the nomination form. Close of nominations is today, Friday 25th March. Donna Foster 2010 School Council President foster.donna.df@edumail.vic.gov.au

Our next meeting is Tuesday 15th March at 9.15am in the BLC. Everyone is welcome!

To celebrate Berwick Fields 5th Birthday, we are holding a Major Community raffle. This is the 1st time the school has held a major and professional raffle with our own Berwick Fields tickets. Each family received a book of 10 tickets and each ticket costs $2. You can sell to the public or, if you prefer, you can keep the tickets yourself. This raffle is a major way of fundraising for the school. The school has the potential to raise a large amount of funds for equipment and resources, new programs, and things that the students would love to have. There are 10,000 tickets on offer, so please ask your family, friends, work colleagues, anyone you know to buy some tickets. We would also love their support in selling their own book of tickets. You may even ask a local business that you frequent to put a book on their counter. Please do not discard the raffle tickets. If you are unable to sell them, kindly return them to the office, so we may send them home with families who wish to sell/distribute more books of tickets. However we encourage each family to sell one book. Thank you.

In keeping with our objective this year of building and supporting our Berwick Fields community, and as we are celebrating our very special 5th Birthday Frenzy this year, Parents & Friends will be holding a FREE Easter Raffle. Each child at Berwick Fields will have their name placed into a bucket to go into the

After much discussion, P&F have decided NOT to proceed with a Hot Cross Bun Drive this year. This decision was based on the fact that the Easter Weekend is at the end of the school holidays, thus the buns would be delivered almost 3 weeks prior to Easter. We also took into consideration the financial implications associated with the 5th Birthday Frenzy Celebrations. ie raffles, cookbook, Frenzy Jersey and the Frenzy Celebration itself on the 26th March. We would encourage all families however, to support our 5th Birthday Frenzy Raffle and purchase a ticket for just $2.00.

draw to win a fantastic sports bicycle as well as one of our many yummy Easter hampers. The prize draw will take place at our annual Easter Parade.

Thank you for your continued support!

Mothers Day Stall: Wednesday 4th May Dynamite Disco (date to be confirmed) Parent assistance with these events would be greatly appreciated. Please see a member of Parents & Friends, or leave your details with the office staff or your class parent rep, and they will pass your details on to us.
