personal statement

As an architecture student I have been exposed to various methods of design and different philosophies that have shaped my vision and approach to architecture. Very early on, learned two things: dislike the color yellow but appreciate subtle and delicate approaches to art. That is why cherish the idea that architecture has the power to shape the world around us. Through my beliefs and design style, I can inhibit some of those core values that I have picked up on, and I can design spaces that serve program purposes yet cherish opportunistic moments that can be created in these spaces. As continue my journey as a young designer, I wish to keep working on my craft and style. There is evermore left to learn, and truthfully, that excites me.

advanced construction

The following construction demonstrates advanced framing techniques with 2x6 studs @ 24” O.C. This focus is on a more thorough method to punched openings that remove excess cripples studs, a more conservative corner stud, a more efficient way for backing on interior intersections, and top plate connections.

section perspective

longitudinal section

The following section perspective offers insight into the living spaces in a way that provides a gentle notion of livability and community. The architectural character of the proposed units does not take away from the character of the community but instead provides a precedent on how to better engage the community and promote resilience within the neighborhood. A great shared space is one that respects the language of its precedents and offers a connection to its residents.

My partner and I strongly identified this project with clay and water Both these elements are what brought our concept to live and it is what Barcelona can be identified with. In order to hold up this massive walkway, it was important to view it as an extension of the industrial port. This means that our foundational structure was treated as if it were a bridge and this helped cater two different experiences, retain Barcelona’s industrial port identity and explore sustainable solutions.

kevin lynch inspiration

In his work, Kevin Lynch seeks to understand and shape the visible aspects of the city based on the mental image it forms in our minds. According to Kevin Lynch, the image of a city is shaped by the interplay, relationships, and characteristics of five key elements: nodes, paths, edges, districts, and landmarks. We act on this by treating the slab of clay as if it were a city with a superposition of networks.

This architecture thesis explores the crucial role that architectural design plays in stimulating the well-being of employees within the workplace. The modern workplace has been evolving for some time now and after COVID-19, the rate has dramatically increased. As more attention is given to the physical and mental health of employees, we as designers are tasked to create an environment and experience that not only captures the functional requirements of a building but also demonstrates a level of care in the understanding of the impact that architecture can have on employee well-being.

The Glueless and Clueless project had us very clueless at first. Nevertheless, we were introduced to our very first set of model making techniques These techniques included laser cutting, stick building, wood cutting and finally 3-D Printing, Throughout the course of this project we were tasked to design and develop a space that would let people’s curiosity guide them through experiential moments. What we ended up was an organic mass whose space is meant for meandering and exploration What started off as an organic sketch, ended up as an experience carved into the topography we carved out of a fingerprint.
