R
achel decided to concentrate on building her new insurance agency, so she messaged Tim to take or leave one last chance to redeem their fizzled overtures to online dating. A second try at Sasha’s on DeMun sparked instant chemistry. The strong-willed Leos learned to balance trust in each other and sometimes let the other “take the wheel.” Tim proposed after Thanksgiving dinner 2017 in Georgia while her family secretly chilled the champagne. The Coronado embodied their art deco vision of vintage gold glamour in candlesticks abloom with ostrich feathers, memorial frames, table decor and draping. In the next “crazy” year, they became engaged, Rachel sold her house and moved into their “together” home, which they rehabbed, and they planned and celebrated their wedding. BEST OF THE BEST

RACHEL WHEN DID YOU TAKE THIS RELATIONSHIP SERIOUSLY?
We started dating 4/6/16. Tim took me to his family’s Mother’s Day gathering with his immediate and extended family the next month. It was a really nice gesture to include me, given my mom passed away in 2006, and Mother’s Day is always a really hard day for me. Apparently I passed the test because he stuck around. DID YOUR 200 GUESTS TAKE HOME MEMENTOS?
Mementos were photo-booth pictures with our wedding logo and a koozie that said, “We swiped right,” on one side and “Tim and Rachel, 11.17.18” on the other. HOW DID YOU FEEL AFTER THE CEREMONY?
Overwhelmingly happy. We both looked at each other and said, “Hey hubby,” “Hey wifey,” with the biggest smiles on our faces.
TIM HOW DID YOU PICK THE PROPOSAL SETTING?
Rachel had remarked how important it would be to share this wedding with her family, with her grandpa in Florida and family spread out across the country. What could be more special than proposing when we could share that authentic moment? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ‘SNAPSHOT’ OF THE DAY?
The first look. The minute I turned around and saw Rachel, I was reminded I made the right decision all over again. I was so nervous, but so calm at the same time when I saw her.
WHAT SIGNIFICANT ITEM DID RACHEL WEAR? TIM
A neighbor/relative of my parents really knocked it out of the park. Judy took Rachel’s mom’s wedding dress and made wedding-day necessities out of that one dress. Rachel’s dad and brother and I had handkerchiefs made from it, the ring bearer’s pillow was covered in it and flower girls’ baskets were lined with material from the dress. RACHEL
It was all good for my dad and my brothers. It incorporated my mom in ways that people close to us would recognize. Lace from the dress was wrapped around the stems of my bouquet and a small photo of my mom on her wedding day hung above my hands.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR MATE? TIM
I’d call it love at first date. It felt so right from the start and the initial attraction never wore off. She has a wicked sense of humor, a great laugh. Rachel is a true original: beautiful, strong-willed, independent, hilarious and driven. The balance of opening her business while spending time with me showed how much she cared. RACHEL
I love how he’s adamant about talking things out. I love how he’s always eager to learn new things. I love how he loves my family more than anything. I love/hate how strong-willed he is.

C
alling Cory a “big man on campus” only stated the obvious. Kristen started a conversation with the 6-foot 8-inch basketball forward while he was seated at a Halloween party in 2012, early in a season when the Texan stood tall to lead the Saint Louis University Billikens in blocked shots. They texted for a month, hung out again and started dating a month later. When Cory’s professional sports future led him to Germany, they guarded a long-distance relationship for five years. Their future thrived on late-night conversations and summer and winter visits during free time for each. After traveling the world together, Cory chose to propose on a beach, what Kristen called their “happy place.” It was Miramar Beach, Fla., during her family’s vacation photo session. Since the wedding, they both live in France. BEST OF THE BEST

We decided to get our pictures taken at Forest Park. We spend a lot of time in Forest Park in the summer when Cory is home. We love – well, more of a love-hate – to work out on Art Hill and walk or run all around the park. WHAT WERE WEDDING DETAILS?
Our colors were dusty blue and gray. We wanted to keep the style classic and beautiful – nothing over the top. I loved the muted colors of the bridesmaids’ dresses and in the flowers. About 120 attended.

It was on the beach in front of Kristen’s family. Her mom decided at least six months before the trip that everyone would wear white for a photo shoot. Her family knew I planned to propose. They struggled – especially her dad – to keep the secret, but it turned into a great surprise for her.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR NEW HUSBAND/WIFE? CORY
I love her beautiful smile whenever we are goofing around. The way her eyes change colors in different lighting. Her kind heart. The way she looks after and cares for me. Also, how she challenges me and supports me with anything. KRISTEN
I love how kind-hearted and genuine he is. He could never talk poorly about someone and he looks for the good in everyone. I love how calm and laid back he is, but he is also the most determined and hardworking person. I also love how he makes me laugh all day every day.

Walking into the reception, we both looked so excited and happy. It was a really cool moment for me to see our friends and family be so happy for us. KRISTEN
When we walked out of the church together, we were so excited to have just gotten married. It was the most beautiful day outside. Our family and friends surprised us by lining up right outside and waving white streamers. Everyone was all smiles.

Soon after meeting in October 2014 at Jewish Federation of St. Louis, their attraction exceeded beyond “coworker.” A first dinner date at Eleven Eleven Mississippi ended with dessert at Baileys’ Chocolate Bar. Guests often shared their cooking adventures. Amid sunflowers on 11/11/16, Amy proposed on a bridge in Lafayette Park. Musicians played the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love.” Baileys’ opened early for them on the way home, where Emily had prepared an in-house scavenger hunt to lead Amy to her own ring. Rustic and modern elements embellished Jewish traditions: a ceremony under a chuppah, breaking of a glass, kosher feast and dancing amid warm wishes of “mazel tov.” Each danced with her dad to strains of “You’re Just Too Good to Be True.” BEST OF THE BEST

AMY WHAT REINFORCED YOUR LOVE OF EMILY?
There were little things. One day when we were dating, she went into the kitchen, emptied the dishwasher, then she put my laundry away. She always wanted to make little things easier in my life. HOW DID YOU STYLE YOUR WEDDING?
We wanted it to just feel like us and reflect our style together. The Caramel Room matched the aesthetic of mixed modern and rustic. We were both really involved in the process of achieving our vision of a celebration surrounded by family and friends. Colors were coral and blush with accents of navy and gold. Emily had seven attendants, I had six – a mix of relatives and close friends. WHAT SYMBOLIZED BOTH PAST AND FUTURE?
At the first point in the ceremony where we drink wine twice from a cup, we used one that Emily’s grandparents used in their wedding. The second was new to bring us into our new marriage. DID SOMETHING TIP THE SCALE ON FUN?
Bringing in the band from Nashville brought the wedding to life. Having a wedding planner and amazing vendors made the day so special and allowed us to be “present.”

We wanted it to be on a holiday weekend so people wouldn’t have to go to work the next day after the Sunday wedding. For good weather, we planned it over Memorial Day. WHAT IS A FAVORITE MEMORY?
Being able to step back and look at all the people who were there for us, who really care about us and shared that with us. WHERE DID YOU SIT AT THE RECEPTION?
We had a mini version of a farm table made with our signature wedding emblem carved into it and used it as a sweetheart table. Now it is in the entryway of our home. The ketubah, which two close artist friends designed for us and the witnesses to sign at our wedding, hangs above the table. DID GUESTS TAKE HOME A MEMENTO?
Bissinger’s opened the chocolate shop and we sent 230 people home happy with chocolates.

A save-the-date with basic facts may or may not reflect the invitation to come, but will hint at their emerging personality. Allowing six months or more for delivering this verse respects the busy lives of prospective guests and allows them time to plan to attend even a far-off wedding. Those paying for the event usually issue invitations reflecting wedding tone but wording may include others responsible for individuals or the match. Responses, made by mail or online, are vital for approximating the number of guests to be seated and fed. After the wedding, life winds down into two-some bliss, but expressing thanks for the memories should be a priority.

The personalized prism shaped everything from invitations and place cards on plate chargers to Emily's engagement ring as well as a custom sweetheart table they shared at the reception. They mailed save-the-dates a year prior to the wedding. Letter fonts colored black and gold added whimsy and simplicity to merge styles – Amy's more modern, Emily leaning toward rustic – in color choices of softly blushing pink. With the invitations, they used gold string to attach a card with their gold-printed first names to the RSVP card and envelope and enclosed small squares with email and online RSVP information in a black envelope for easy storage.

Above, From the outset, Tim Smith and Christianah Akinduro spread warm anticipation of a sunny, tropical wedding in January 2019 among supportive relatives and friends, including those unable to join them in Cancun, Mexico. A save-the-day resembling a luggage tag, with contact information for their travel agent, arrived in 67 mailboxes in April 2018. A "First Class Ticket" invitation enthusiastically reinforced interest in July. Its accompanying RSVP card, built like a smaller luggage tag and due three months before the wedding, alternated response lines for "Yes! Can't wait to feel the sand between my toes" or "Sorry to miss it, will toast from afar." Of 132 invited, 50 guests who attended were welcomed with gifts and a card of welcome outlining a weekend "itinerary."

Right, Rachel Williams and Tim Betlach reflected the importance of their wedding with glamorous sentimentality, start to finish, in "lots of gold in everything that was in writing with an art deco theme – from menus to seating chart to ceremony handouts," Rachel said. Save-thedate magnets, incorporating blush pink to set a dazzling tone for the in-town wedding, were sent in simple white envelopes six months prior to the wedding. Invitations followed in the same combination of gold and black on blush pink. For their big day, souvenir koozies, flowers and other details picked up floral tones colored a darker “merlot.” A month later, they sent Christmas cards with a photo of the lovely bride and her handsome groom taken on their wedding day in Forest Park.

Mexico's beautiful sites and minimal three-hour flight won their favor. All-inclusive and luxurious, Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa appealed to families as well as adults-only guests, some of whom extended a three-day stay into a week of tropical vacation. Mike provided more than guidance and arrangements. He guided Christianah in computing cost comparisons between a hometown wedding and a far-off destination for 50 special guests for her doubting parents, who lived in Nashville, Tenn. Her parents' desire to return to the location proved their success. The bride chose mauve, navy, soft cream and plush pink to flatter her six attendants and a junior bridesmaid, Tim’s niece. “Although you work by email, you have two people instead of one working to get things done,” Christianah explained. Their planner was in Canada and onsite coordinator lived in Cancun. It is a mindset, she said. “You look at flowers, other things you choose. They take control of things to get it done. We worked back and forth, always asking after proofing and review if the decision was final.” The bride and a friend, Lori Austin, designed and created save-the-dates, invitations, RSVPs, welcome bag cards and more. Special people, including those unlikely to attend, received invitations by mail. “We still wanted them to know we loved them and appreciated their support in our lives,” the groom said. Attendees earned weekly Facebook updates. Private transportation, planned by Travel Haus, whisked guests from airport to resort. The couple settled in with six suitcases a few days early. The wedding party carried silk bouquets and came to the bride or groom’s room before the wedding to relax, not get caught up in details. Christianah said, “The bridesmaids were shocked at how relaxed the day was. No one had to do any running around. Spending time together like that, you just build relationships.” They were married in an “artsy” Sky Terrace gazebo, had cocktails near the beach and the reception was on a private rooftop where they saw only sky and surf. “Learning and appreciating different cultures is important to us, especially since Christianah was born in Nigeria,” Tim noted. A mariachi band entertained at the rehearsal party on the beach and Mexican DJs led the reception party. Personalizing maracas for guests, a Mexican artist added two butterflies, representing faith and power, and flags from the United States and Nigeria. The bride and her mother danced to a native Nigerian song which thanks a mother for molding a child into the person she has become. Tim surprised his bride at the reception with news that they would extend their trip with a week in Costa Rica.

The Yucatan region of Quintana Roo, Cancun and Riviera Maya are first, and Puerto Vallarta and Cabo follow. 2. Jamaica. 3. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
Q. What should a couple have in hand when asking for advice and inspiration?
A. All these help a travel pro offer appropriate options. 1. About how many will go? Will children attend? This helps match you with a destination and resort. 2. Do you want your ceremony to be symbolic (highest percentage, with legal ceremony in United States) or civil (married under the law of the destination country)? Some resorts have Catholic chapels, but local law prevails, so a couple may need to arrive several days before an actual civil wedding. In Mexico, both the prospective bride and groom need a blood test on the property in advance and any divorce decree must be translated into Spanish and in-hand 30 days before the wedding. 3. What fits you best? Plan like just the two of you are going on vacation. Worry about everyone who will or will not attend lowers the quality of the bridal couple’s experience.

uthie’s profile on a dating website intrigued Patrick, a native St. Louisan. The newcomer from the Philippines came to the United Stations knowing only her family. With college degrees and work ethic established for both, he wanted to investigate her adventurous heart. They met and ate at an outdoor café in Kirkwood Plaza. Feeling matched in personalities, Patrick introduced Ruthie to his mother a week later. Falling in “unexpected love,” they quickly gravitated toward marriage and skipped a formal proposal. They treasured a simple lifestyle, so being married in her aunt’s home measured up for a ceremony on an elevated hearth, dinner prepared by cousin-chefs and relaxed evening surrounded by family. RUTHIE DID THE WEDDING SITE HOLD SPECIAL MEANING?
We held it in the home of my Aunt Rowena and her husband, Dennis. That house is amazing and she likes to host a party. We love it there. Our goal was to have a simple but remarkable wedding. We only had 45 guests, so it was what we wanted and we were so happy. Other relatives have been married there, too, so it is almost a tradition. My cousin, Kris, started the ceremony. Both families participated. HOW DID YOU SELECT DETAILS?
We were married in the “red room” of my aunt’s house, so that provided the decoration. I already had chosen a wedding dress, but five days before the wedding, I saw this amazing one with a train hanging in a store. It fit perfectly in my size. It was more amazing than my previous one. An aunt offered to buy it, so I switched from red to silver shoes and Patrick wore a silver tie instead of a red one. I selected three white roses, three in light purple and some greenery for my bouquet.
PATRICK WHOSE PRESENCE MADE YOUR WEDDING DAY COMPLETE?
My grandfather, Robert Durbin. We call him “Bobo.” He is not in good health, so it took a lot of effort for him to attend and he delivered a heartfelt speech. A total of five grandparents from my side attended. YOUR WEDDING IN A SINGLE WORD?

When I was walking down the hallway towards him, I saw him with teary eyes and by that time I felt so special because it is so rare to see Patrick being emotional. PATRICK

I love being around him. With his presence alone, there is nothing that I could ask for more. I love it how he makes me happy without putting out too much effort. We do pretty much everything together. PATRICK
I love how silly she is but also how much she cares about others. She is so sincere to everybody that she meets. Her selflessness is something that is so rare in today’s world. I love her cooking. I love hanging out with her just at home. We are content being together, just the two of us, on a Friday night.
