The new design of Strewn Winery allows visitors to travel through the space on a curvilinear path. This path resembles the motion of wine as it is poured from a wine bottle into a wine glass, curving, and conforming to the shape of the glass.

CREATIVE DESIGN COMPANY

IDEO, a design company relocating to downtown Toronto is one that thrives on employee interaction and open gathering areas. A space for the creative IDEO staff was designed in an open atmosphere for meeting, “connecting” and exchanging ideas through zones created for grouping and interaction, where paths “cross” and ideas interlock. The concept relates to the function of parks in the sense that paths are created across pastures, allowing persons to travel through a space and pass, meet and spontaneously interact with others.

DREAM HOME R-House

The Dream Home R-House for the 2012 National Home Show in Toronto, was designed by Michael Upshall of PROBUILT. This design was further developed in sustainable and conceptual ways with the help of Humber College students. Students worked along side the professional designers to further develop details of the space and built mock-ups for the prefabricated home.

COURTYARD

The ceiling design within the courtyard of the Dream Home R-House features an array of “clouds”, hung at various angles ranging from 16 degrees to 344 degrees, tilted in many directions. These translucent panels are made to soften the space acoustically, giving the comfortable feeling of a home, while also enhancing the sustainable aspects of the house, but filtering natural light into the space adequately. These panels consist of stretched fabric with metal rings to hold it in place, tightened with metal clips.

LIMPOPO COOKING FACILITY

HIV/AIDS has impacted the children

of South Africa, by leaving many with only one parent, or neither, which presents each with the challenge of providing for their household, as they struggle to find access to food for survival. Provisions need to be made for the lost generation; to help each household to manage without feeling too burdened neglecting education and personal needs because of their lack of nutrients and concentration.

A cooking centre within Limpopo, South Africa was designed to meet the needs of these burdened children, freeing them of chores that prevent them from living joyous lives as children.

Enclosed with wood and bamboo stems for the walls, and wire mesh for ventilation, the cooking centre is a safe and sheltered space for children to feel relaxed. ISOMETRIC
