DDC Laboratories India How DNA Test Helps in finding new cure for Disease A DNA test in India has become an extremely useful tool for predicting the disease. By allowing health professionals to identify genes in the DNA that marks the condition, a person can adopt an appropriate lifestyle or make similar changes to reduce the risk of disease. For inherited diseases, identifying a parent who does not express the disease can also help parents make informed choices about pregnancy. Although genetic testing can provide valuable information for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease, there are limitations. Genetic DNA testing plays a vital role in determining the risk of developing certain conditions, as well as in screening and sometimes medical treatment. Different types of genetic tests are performed for various reasons: Diagnostic criteria: If you have symptoms of a disease that can be caused by genetic changes, sometimes called mutated genes, genetic DNA tests can reveal whether you are suspected of having a disorder. Predictive testing: If you have a family history of genetic disease, genetic testing before the onset of symptoms may indicate if you are at risk of developing this disease. Carrier Testing: If you have a family history of genetic disease or sickle cell anemia or cystic fibrosis or if you belong to an ethnic group at high risk of genetic disease, you may choose to have a test to have children. An expanded carrier screening test can detect genes associated with a wide variety of diseases and genetic mutations and can determine if you and your partner have the same conditions. Prenatal testing: If you're pregnant, tests can detect some types of abnormalities in your baby's genes. Down syndrome and trisomy 21, 18 & 13 syndromes are genetic disorders that are often screened for as part of prenatal genetic testing. Newborn screening: This is the most common type of genetic testing and is essential because if the results show a disorder such as congenital hypothyroidism, sickle cell disease, or phenylketonuria (PKU), a proper care and treatment can begin immediately. Preimplantation test also called preimplantation genetic diagnosis: this test can be used when you are trying to conceive a child by in vitro fertilization. Embryos are tested for genetic abnormalities. Embryos without abnormalities are implanted in the uterus in the hope of getting pregnant.
