Designing in a Sand Box ARCH 151: Design I Consisted of creating a 2’ x 2’ wood box with sand inside the box to sustain the shape it was formed to be. A grid system was created by a continious string intersecting at a total of 441 points. The irst drawing has the 441 point grid system. (FIgure 1-1) Figure 1-2 is a top view of a simple design with a 100 point grid system. Figure 1-3 is a draft of the model of sand with the 100 point grid.

Figure 1-3

Figure 1-4 is a complex design involving sand and nylon with string supporting raised sand. Figure 1-5 consists of the 441 point grid system.

Precedent Study ARCH 151: Design I A research project of the Kagawa Prefecture. A Japenese government building designed by Kenzo Tange located in Takamatsu, Japan. Consisted of drawings and models relating to structure, form, mass, movement space, and detailed replication.

Bounding Space ARCH 152: Design II Space throughout a living area that is static or dynamic. The two different movements are cataloged within a set of speci ic drawings. Figure 1-1 are four areas where movement occurs. From left to right; watching TV, brushing teeth, homework, and sleeping. Figure 1-2 consist of my dorm room. Figure 1-3 consist of transverse sections with the different the movements and stationary objects.

Arch 252: Design IV Exploration of design through outdoor/ indoor, expansive/compressive, light/dark, static/dynamic, and public/private space in a formal programmatic way. A use of grids to create different spatial situations.

Telfair Academy Workshop & Gallery Vertical Site

LOC: Savannah, GA

ARCH 252: Design IV “Vertical” project refers to architecture on the use of stacked programs through a given structure with variable heights. The stacked programs consist of a arcade, reading room, gallery & bookshop, restoration workshop, ofices, photography shop, public stair, and along with a building core. The perimeter of the site is 30’ x 90’.
