TRI-HOURSE Concept - Urban Livingroom

After the Urban Analysis of Mantova, We found that although there are a lot of open space, but most of them are for private use. So we want to create a new open space not only serve for programs inside the Site, but also open for residents live around here.

TIMELINE ANALYSIS

Different groups have thier own lrhythm. If we careate one common space, the common space could be used more effictive and flexible.

mecenate neighbourhood situates between the urban and rural area of milan. new public transportation development will allow more population passing by neighbourhood and it will increase the possibility of brining more people to the site. in order to attract more people to the site, the role of via quintiliano and via salomone becomes important.

Crack

Crack + Buffer

crack and buffer are our main concept to understand the current conditions and vision the future. crack generates permeability in boundaries and allow flow of movement in various directions. buffer creates smooth transition between different characteristics around the site and fill up abandoned areas with new activities enriching the neighbourhood. The wall is a solid division between two different elements

change in composition brings opporunity to weaken the wall

The crack increases porosity on the wall and the two area create new relationship

Buffer

the solid wall only allows movement around the itself

weakening the boundary and increasing the permeability

the buffer is created between spaces with high porosity

start to allow movement within the boundary

allowing different activities within the buffer zone

green network and buffer

program and buffer

morphology and buffer

many large and small open spaces are scattered around the site. the site has a potential to bridge the surrounding open spaces in order to create a continuous ecological network. the buffer of green spaces will vary in scale and types, possibly containging some public programs serving the neighbourhood and the city. also the site can work as the threshold between the urban landscape on the west and the more natural landscape on the east.

the site has a potential to complete the public network serving the neighbourhood

the site is a threshold between two different morphologies. in order to accommodate both side and create a coherent transition, it is important to study different types of morphology around the site and transform the existing buildings into different sizes and shapes. large scale industrial morphology has some advantages that small residential types do hot have. however, to create a intimate atmosphere site and connect with the surrounding spaces, the space could be break down and punched.

ACTIVITY PERSPECTIVES

Masterplan 1:2000

1

artist atelier & residence

Artist residences with common atelier at the centre create a small art community. Common studio space allows interaction amongst different creative professions that will result in interesting projects.

5

sculpture park

In front of the pavillion and exhibition hall, is the sculpture park. With a shallow hill, the park is full of interesting art pieces created by the local artists living on site and working at the workshop and atelier.

2

community park

The west side of outdoor space has wooden deck area, green spaces and water feature for local people. It is suitable for dog walking, recreation and light sports activities.

6

exhibition hall

The large storage space is transformed into the exhibition hall. Works of the artists living on site are exhibited and sold in the hall. Also the hall has an outdoor amphitheatre for various performances.

3

workshop Studios

Long warehouses are transformed into workshop areas for various creative activities. The spaces can accommodate wide range of works from sculpture, wood working to performance practice and sound recording.

7

student residence & community centre

front of the residence, there is a small community garden and pavillion for student work exhibition. Community centre provides opportunity for local people to learn the creative subject they are interested in.

4

pavillion

The structure of warehouse is turned into an outdoor pavillion for events and outdoor exhibition space. Also the old bar building is refurbished to a restaurant to serve the people.
