AMD Launches Opteron 6300 Series Piledriver Chip

Processor manufacturer from California, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) launched the Opteron 6300 series Piledriver chips. This new device has the code name of Abu Dhabi and is designed specifically for product line of low-energy server chips. Reported Theinquirer, Monday (11/05/2012), one year ago AMD released the Opteron Bulldozer chips to compete with the product line domination of Intel processors. Now, AMD developed the new processor, the Opteron 6300 series Piledriver. AMD makes this new processor series to replace Opteron Bulldozer and still carry the same level of thermal design power (TDP). TDP has a range of between 115W and 140W, for a single piece of high efficiency (HE) 16-core registered with 85W TDP. AMD also offers processor with 8-core, 12-core and 16-core. CRN website writes, this new processor featuring the next-generation Piledriver architecture. AMD also claims its latest product gives 40 percent performance per watt more faster than Opteron 6200 processors before. “One of the key elements behind the Opteron 6300 is with the 16-core Piledriver architecture,� said John Williams, Vice President of Server Marketing and Business Development AMD. He said the new processor has a base frequency up to 3.5 GHz. Opteron 6300 series Piledriver sold with price range starting from USD575 to USD1.392 (10 different types of processors).
