Nokia Transition to leave Symbian operating system and switch to Windows Phone will be costly. Reported from AllThingsD, Saturday (10/27/2012), the IDC survey on the second quarter of this year, Nokia still ranked third in the world’s largest mobile phone maker. But the results of the third quarter survey said another. The third quarter IDC survey reveals Nokia did not even succeed perched on top 5 ranking. Meanwhile its defeat has boosted the dominance of the two smartphone giants Samsung and Apple. In the third quarter, Samsung shipped 56.3 million smartphones globally. Samsung gained market share of 31.3 percent. Meanwhile, Apple has shipped 26.9 million smartphones to claim a market share of 15 percent. This figure rose 13.8 percent compared to the third quarter last year. Under these two smartphone giants, top 5 rank IDC version noted the name of Research in Motion (RIM), ZTE and HTC. RIM claimed the third position with a market share of 4.3 percent.
