Elizabeth of RESCUE CAT PROJECT with Imp.1973 Mr. Kubrick
Dear Friends, We never ask for $. We never ask for stuff (ok we do ask for cat food for the pound). We donate our own $. We give up our own time. What we ask is that you share our page with people you know. If you know a colleague at work who likes pets, lead them to us. If you have a nana, sign her up to us. If you know a radio host, ask them to promote us. If you have friends, shamelessly promote us to them. Pester your mother, uncle, brother, sister and local MP to like us. Our saves come from our network. Help us to help them. Time you adopted a RCP pound cat? Love comes free. Mr Kubrick (pictured) is currently impound 1973, and you could not meet a nicer little cat. Please look very closely at the first photo (yes, I know I am in it and that you will have to forgive) but if you look, very closely, you will see this little man was licking my pen as I wrote his impound number down Just gorgeous! He was the cutest cat in the cattery! Elizabeth

I couldn't resist sharing this with you all. This thank you note was given to me by the Mariasson children Jahzara and Maxime. This gorgeous little family adopted Bella (aka Miss Muffet) and Rosetta (aka Alpine) rescued from Blacktown Pound by Purr-fect Match Cat Adoptions. My life was enriched by foster caring these beautiful cats and then by meeting this special family who came to adopt Alpine and ended up with Miss Muffet too. How lucky are we to receive such lovely updates from these special families. Thank you children for making me looking taller and much skinnier than I really am ! Very cute indeed

MAY 2015 RESCUE CATS E- MAGAZINE
The breeding months, the busiest season of all...
A time to GAIN and a time to LOSE….
A Wish from a Foster Carer RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP Three months ago we first photographed this gorgeous Mumma cat called Cass. She had these newborns at Blacktown Pound and was one fortunate Mumma indeed to end up being in the foster care of experienced vet nurse Blaire. Cass and her babies became very ill with cat flu and Blaire faced the biggest challenge. During the most difficult time Blaire wrote this:
“ What is your story Cass?"Hard to believe her life nearly ended. That she grew & birthed 5 beautiful babies and ended up in a pound so overrun with lost souls that she was a nobody. Where did you come from? What were you thinking as you lay there scared, protecting and nursing your little ones? I'm sorry that you've been so sick and that you feel like giving up. But you are safe & loved & I'm terribly grateful you got a second chance, beautiful girl x0x0 ” Desex your pets people!!! It's really not hard! Every life is precious. Blaire Kelsall Vet Nurse and Cass's foster mum
Did you know… The amount of cats and kittens euthanized has DECREASED from 71% to 65% thanks to cat lovers working together and saving more lives but despite all efforts many Mums and babies do not survive...

MAY 2015 RESCUECATS E- MAGAZINE These Kittens are some of the lucky ones and were saved.
THE REALITIES OF KITTEN SEASON AT BLACKTOWN POUND “In the pound's cattery - at the back, as far away from the noise of the dogs as you can get, is
the mother and babies section of the cattery. Sadly most weekends it is full. Available to rescue groups only who will responsibly rehome them, these are the most vulnerable of all the animals in the pound.” Elizabeth https://www.facebook.com/RescueCatProject.Homepage?ref=bookmarks In this our special Mother’s Day edition we want to highlight the plight of the ‘Mother’ cats who are abandoned or surrendered into pounds, and there are many. Because they can go to rescue groups only the chances of their lives being saved are greatly reduced. What happens when the ‘Mother’ cat’s holding period is up and no rescue group has come forward to save her? She is euthanized….. and all her babies are euthanized with her. Once a cat is impounded with kittens then the clock starts ticking, especially if the mum has not been vaccinated. Tiny kittens have no immunity and the only way to safeguard their health is for them to be rescued as soon as possible. Each day the chances of them catching diseases, especially cat influenza, rises. So what is the answer?
The answer is that baby kittens should never be in a pound with other animals but in a totally separate facility where they can be isolated from diseases and other cats, kept warm and cared for until they can be rescued or rehomed. We live in a modern society where every comfort is available, our councils have the welfare of the animals at heart but not the funds to care for them properly. Somehow the plight of these very special pound animals is always overlooked and many perish, and will continue to perish, until changes are made. Kittens are the innocent product of irresponsible, uncaring pet owners who do not desex their pets, then when they become pregnant, abandon them. Once born these blind, helpless babies have but a tenuous grip on life. Why are they born only to die? It’s beyond sad….
