Ears may be cleaned under the advice of a vet, with a specially formulated solution. Place the tip of the applicator into the ear canal and gently squeeze in 1 to 2 drops. Withdraw the tip and massage the base of the ear very gently for thirty seconds, preventing the dog from shaking its head, before wiping the ear flap with cotton wool.

KEEPING YOUR PUPPY’S EYES CLEAN

The eyes should be bright and moist, with pale pink mucosae. It’s important to clean your puppy’s eyes of any discharge, but there will always be some amount of tear-staining whenever hair rests around the eyes. Tear-staining results from the hair absorbing moisture produced by the eyes. Dirt or mud and tear-staining around the eyes can be removed gently with cotton wool and clean, lukewarm water.

Whether you plan on taking your dog to a groomer as an adult or not, familiarising them with grooming and hygiene routines from a young age will ensure that they get used to being handled and will help avoid any distress that might occur when grooming older dogs. DOGS QUEENSLAND HELPS PEOPLE FIND JOBS

Dogs Queensland has been proud to partner with belong this year, helping kick start new careers in Conservation and Land Management for disadvantaged job-seekers on Brisbane’s Southside. belong is a not-for-profit that provides a range of supports and services to people living in Acacia Ridge and surrounding suburbs. 11 people recently graduated from an 18 week paid traineeship project where they undertook a wide range of bush regeneration activities on the fringes of our site in Durack, yielding big benefits to the local environment as part of the vital Oxley Creek catchment. The next round of this project is due to start in mid-October, and belong is on the hunt for its next group of 11 trainees who will gain handson skills, a Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management, and lots of other support to help prepare them to search for, find, and sustain real jobs. Employment is the end goal of these projects, and our experience has taught us that the graduates are indeed ready for real work. Dogs Queensland now reaps the benefits of two people who we have since employed following the first project with belong. Harrison Wallace works on our grounds while Tori Hickson is employed on a casual basis undertaking general grounds maintenance. Both are doing a terrific job, and are a great reflection on these projects’ ability to help people break the negative cycles of unemployment. For employers out there, there are great incentives to hire recent graduates from these projects. The Queensland Government provides incentives to employers of up to $10K to hire traineeship graduates. We highly urge employers interested in hiring trainees or people interested in participating in these projects to contact belong via training@ belong.org.au.

Belong Careers Day

Creating connections for real career opportunities.

Thank you for your interest in the Belong Careers Day. At Belong, we deliver a number of training and traineeship programs with funding from the State Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative. We work with local community members from a range of professional and personal backgrounds to help them develop the knowledge, skills and confidence that will enhance their long-term employment prospects. Our mission is to assist every program participant into work or further training.

Background

To help build a bridge between job candidates and employers, we are holding a Careers Day that will bring together our program participants and graduates with local employers and training organisations. The event’s aim is to discuss employment opportunities, employer expectations and career pathways, while also creating networking opportunities and access to the hidden job market of unadvertised job opportunities.

When and where

 Thursday 29 October 2020  The Social Space

21 Clifton St, Moorooka

 Start: 8.30am for a 9:00am start  End: 11.30am

Note: Event format may change and restriction on numbers may be required due to COVID-19. We will be following the COVID Safe Plan for businesses and will advise of any necessary changes prior to the event.

Event format

The Careers Day will provide an opportunity for job candidates and employers to network in an informal setting. Stall holders will display material about their specific industry and provide employment application forms and processes for applying. Belong will arrange a ‘roaming MC’ and ask questions relative to employers’ expectations relating to work requirements and employability skills. We ask that employers and training provider’s network informally with job candidates to offer further information on their company including further training, role requirements and application process and where appropriate, discuss opportunities for potential employment with their company.

Our aim is to have 10 to 15 organisations in attendance.

Event schedule

What to bring

Please arrive at the venue from 8.30am for set up. A COVID Safe sign in record sheet will be provided. We request you bring a pull-up banner and other organisational information and marketing material. We will provide a small table and two chairs for each organisation to set up a small expostyle stall. If you could wear company colours and a name tag, that would make it easier for participants to identify and address you. Please also make sure to have a sufficient number of business cards on hand. We expect approximately 40 job seekers to attend the event.
