Urban Designer I Landscape Architect

T. Doğu AYAN Urban Designer I Landscape Architect PHI LO SO PHY

I am Doğu. I am an Urban Designer and Landcape Architect. I am an open minded person, and I am believing the power of change. This is a selection of my most represantative works over 4 years in my education life. Before my design education I believe that one person can not change the world. But, after my education I see the power of design and change my perspective to ‘‘ one man/woman can change the world with designing.’’

FLUIDITY OF PEDESTRIAN MOVEMENT IN ANKARA URBAN CORE:

SIHHIYE BRIDGE

2014-2015 Fall Studio Instructors: Dr. S. Ayşegül Tokol / Hatice Karaca / Prof. Dr. Feyzan Erkip

1/500 Plan & Sections

a’ Scenario The core of this project is Sıhhiye Bridge because people’s perception is Sıhhiye Bridge is a door between ‘new’ and ‘old’ Ankara. Thus, many citizen of Ankara donot want to go after Sıhhiye Bridge to Ulus without car. If we can change this perception we can achieve the Fluidience of pedestrian movement Kızılay to Ulus. We can change the edge function of Sıhhiye Bridge into a threshold function. Art is the most powerful way to bring people together. Bridge will mix the people in Sıhhiye district with the funcitoon of ‘Art’. In the design process first aim is get simple pedestrian pass at Sıhhiye Bridge. Second, change the bus stops where down to the bridge, next to Ankara Dil Tarih Faculty because, these stops cause noise and visual pollution and human traffic down to bridge. The topography should straightened at some points because it defines different planes down to the bridge and people are struggling with these.

IMAGINATIVE LANDSCAPE DESIGN

İSTANBUL TOPHANE PARK 2015-2016 Fall Studio Instructors: Hatice Karaca / Tülin Munzur

top vıews & perspectıves Scenario Aim of the project is creating a place where people understand Imagination is something that can change with people’s perspectives. Thus, first tell the design approach to the people with the imagination board. The board is consist of dots which is guideline for the blank space and we put pen, elastic band, craft knife, and pins for the design element. People create different kind of things that it cannot classified. But, common thing in this process people are create things according to their perspectives to the life. After this determination we decide to use reflection and elements in the park to emphasis human perspective is changing their own environment. We use curved, broken mirros to differentiate the view of the mirrors. Also, we protect the existing trees to emphasize the memory while thinlink imagination. Lighting elements are use for the changing the view of the Tophane at nights. New plants are select according to their seasonal color and leaf changes to sustain changing in the site all over the year.

1/500 concept desıgn Scenario The project given by Eskişehir Municipality. According to requirements of Municipality report analyses were made at the site and main problems are Lack of Accesibility in the Hamamyolu Street because of the Landscape Elements and water. Also, landscape elements doesn’t have same language thus, you can’t feel the hall street while you are walking through. According to this analyses, as a group we offer simple design to create design language through the street and with the arrange of water design street guests will enjoy of Hot Water that is special for the site. Guests can walk and cycle through the street without borders.

İSTANBUL - CULTURAL HETEROGENEITY

KARAKÖY

2015-2016 Fall Studio Instructors: Dr. S. Ayşegül Tokol / Hatice Karaca / Prof. Dr. Feyzan Erkip

Analyses Scenario The design aim is creating alternative roads for İstiklal Street. New roads will feed from İstiklal Street human density. To take people attraction to these streets there will be a common places through the new streets. Especially, at Tophane part, broken connections repaired. Buidings and roads restorated and some of building’s ground floor opened to the public with new functions. Many lost spaces are designed like different functioned pockets.

Cultural Network

Taxi and Bus Stations

NETWORK ANALYSES According to NETWORK ANALYSES on Karaköy, we are see that every different spot has own their character. SOCIO-SPATIAL INTERACTION analyes shows that there are different spots like RECREATION-COMMERCIAL-BUSINESS areas and there are different MOVEMENT paths on Karaköy. LEISURE and RECREATION analyes shows the TAKSİM- İSTİKLAL STREET-GALATA-GALATA BRIDGE AND KABATAŞ spots are INTENSE areas of Karaköy. COMMERCIAL NETWORK map shows the some areas like HALİÇ has DEFINITE CHARACTER. According to analyes this area not has much density like İstiklal Street. This reason is VARIOUS COMMERCIAL TYPES in İstiklal Street. CULTURAL NETWORKS analyses shows that there are different types of subcultures in Karaköy but these are SEPARATED from each other like we cannot see collective of subcultures in one place. MOVEMENT ANALYSES Shows the TRANSPORTATION NODES in Karaköy. These nodes are HALİÇŞİŞHANE-KARAKÖY SQUARE-KABATAŞ -TAKSİM. Also, because of its location Karaköy transportation feed by the sea, it has many piers and these piers are carry many people. Railway system carry almost 220 million people in a year. These node points are the great spots for the CIRCULATION in İstanbul.

Kabataş is the transportation hub because of the tramway, bus and sea transportations. The people who are using this hub, generally use for the go to their education areas or go their hotels (this part of the İstanbul is very popular for touruist) or go to their job.

Taksim is the node point and it serve almost everykind of people because of the İstiklal Caddesi, Gezi Park, ITU, touristic activities... Also Taksim is transportation hub and it has very huge potential to collect every kind of people.

Galatasaray at the middle of the İstiklal Street. Galatasay High School, commercial types in İstiklal Street and it place at the intersection point. Thus, it serves different kind of people.

Pera generally serves with hotels to tourists and Pera Museum attract the people who interest with art and Pera streets are good for the night time activities.

Şişhane is a transportation hub with railway and buses. Because of Beyoğlu Municipality building people who are live here are work for governmental agency and food cafes are good in Şişhane for lunch time.

ANKARA: SMARTH GROWTH PROJECT

AKKÖPRÜ

2015-2016 Spring Studio Instructors: Kumru Arapgirlioğlu / Dr. Oktan Nalbantoğlu / Ufuk Ertem

Analyses

Scenario

Land - Use

Smart growth is an urban planning and transportation theory that concentrates growth in compact walkable urban centers to avoid sprawl. It also advocates compact, transit-oriented, walkable, bicycle-friendly land use, including, complete streets, and mixed-use development with a range of housing choices. The term ‘smart growth’ is particularly used in North America. In Europe and particularly the UK, the terms ‘Compact City’ or ‘urban intensification’ have often been used to describe similar concepts, which have influenced government planning policies in the UK, the Netherlands and several other European countries. Smart growth values long-range, regional considerations of sustainability over a short-term focus. Its sustainable development goals are to achieve a unique sense of community and place; expand the range of transportation, employment, and housing choices; equitably distribute the costs and benefits of development; preserve and enhance natural and cultural resources; and promote public health.

CYPRUS: CREATING RESILIENT ELASTI‘C’ITY

FAMAGUSTA

2016-2017 Spring Studio Instructors: Kumru Arapgirlioğlu / Dr. Oktan Nalbantoğlu / Dr. Didem Dizdaroğlu

Analyses Scenario Proposal aim is creating resilient connections in Famagusta with the helps of ‘‘ELASTICITY’’. Boundaries that are created in the past, creating a fragmentation both for the settlement and urban landscape, and led towards a break of links and ties within the city. The events that have affected the city’s timeline at 1974 also created some social and physical boundaries within the city. Therefore, all living in their isolated boundaries and/or borders create physical, socio-economic, cultural separations, and restrain an UNINTERRUPTED USE OF THE CITY LANDSCAPE AND ACCESIBLE COASTLINE. The main East-West line of train station stop on the island is started at Lefkosa and ended in the city of Famagusta. As a solution these cracks need to be connect with a new proposal which will aim to CONNECT ALL FRAGMENTED landscapes and heritage sites, which will integrate the city as a whole using this existing path: urban landscape connector- a tramway CONNECTING THE NOSTALGIA OF THE PAST TOWARDS A UNITED FUTURE. Within this context, one of the aims of tramway is to emphasize the tracing of the existing lane and make a connection between past – present and future.

Emergency Elasticity: Accesiblity of the point to the city.

Sea Road Elasticity: Flexible Transportation Roads.

One of the important feature of design, new functions are determined according to old Citadel functions. City core functions based on Tradational core functions. Breaking Boundries & Creating Resilient Connections

Wetland Elasticity: Connection and make robust.

Famagusta is city has no direct connection with sea even its island. Thus, priority is CONNECT THE CITY TO SEA AND CONNECT THE EMU TO VAROSHA with light railway. While creating these connections. Design enhance the resiliency with the power of Elastic stretching. Two main roads which coming from Two side of EMU campus get robust with the proposed railway.

Social Elasticity: Different gathering areas.

Flexible Spaces

Social Connection

To enhance the power of ELASTICITY the spaces are design for considering the ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES. Because of the location of Cyprus, design has to consider the weather changes through out the year. Permanent water and shading elements are used in the design to ROBUST the places for climatic conditions.

Famagusta has lack of social gathering places. One of the main reason for this, city doesn’t have enough open spaces to gather people. Thus, courtyard places proposed for HEAL THE SOCIAL CRACKS between communities. Also, these places helding activities like city bazaar, festivals for attract all kind of people to create COMMON PLACES.

1/200 desıgn & perspectıve THE MOAT The site moat’s wall are too sensitive for using behind it. Thus, the construction is hold the wall and make it resilient to the physical effects. Because of the steel mesh feature, visitors can see the historic moat’s wall. Location is on the stream bed, for this reason design offer a new elevated road which is creating alternative road for the existing one. This road shows the ‘‘elasticity’’ features with its opportunities which its robust the old wall, create different path, resilient to flood risk at the site, create social gathering area to shows people feelings. All over the world there are different kinds of bianneles that bringing the different kind of people together while considering the location of Famagusta and Castle. Also, the visitors of the The ‘‘Moat’’ will learn the history of the island with the open museum while walking or cycling in it. The video mapping and the festival area create attraction point inside of the moat. The road of the moat mainly protected from the sun by the help of walls. Also, bianneles topic will be about the covered shelter for moat. Design offer a new pathway for people in the sense of the theme.

II. ECOLOGY URBAN DESIGN COMPETITION by Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation - Finalist Design Team: Team Leader: Talip Doğu Ayanl / Batuhan F. Çifçi / Pınar Elverdi / Cemre Korkut / Mert Yakar

1/10000 proposal

Ecological Importance of the Valley & Threshold Analyes

32

desıgn strategıes Adaptation of Valley to the City Life - Transportation Alan için tavsiye edilen ulaşım sistemleri yaya önceliği gözeten, birleştirici ve ekolojik duyarlıklar doğrultusunda belirlenmiştir.

Efective Usage of Water and Energy Su Koruma Alanı (Riperian Alan)
