SIMPLY THE WORLD’S
The extraordinary Dolomites Millions of years ago ancient coral reefs were forced through the tops of mountains to create the breathtaking spires and cliffs that dominate the Dolomites Mountains of northern Italy. Today, the spectacular natural beauty of the Dolomites provides the perfect backdrop for the ultimate skiing holiday. With a seemingly endless network of finely groomed trails, charming local villages and a rich cultural and culinary heritage to discover, the Dolomites Mountains are simply irresistible.
•brochure_DST_2015-16.indd 2
Let us show you this special place on one of our skiing adventures. With almost 30 years of experience successfully guiding skiers in this spectacular region, we have the local knowledge and experience required to make your visit memorable and enjoyable.
World-class facilities… old-world charm The Dolomites is the largest interconnected ski region in the world. Nowhere else will you find 450 lifts, including the most comfortable gondolas and covered chairs, all on a single and affordable lift pass. The
ski lifts are spread over 12 valleys and 45 ski resorts! Over 1,200km of marked runs, as well as countless off-piste options, make this a skier’s paradise, regardless of ability. Yet despite the abundance of state-of-theart infrastructure, the region’s charming, small-village ambience and age-old traditions remain. Nestled in the valleys and towns, centuriesold buildings surround village squares (piazzas). Skiers and locals wander cobblestoned streets as cablecars full of skiers pass quietly overhead to the spectacular, snow-filled peaks.

LARGEST SKI REGION
Italy’s traditional culinary delights, not to mention its wines and coffee, are world renowned. Restaurants abound, and the same high-quality food found in the towns and villages is also available in the many on-mountain restaurants (rifugi). When you’re not quite ready for lunch but need a break we often pause on one of the many mountain sundecks to take in the seemingly endless vistas over a coffee, hot chocolate and home-made pastry (pasta)? It’s the little things that make the Dolomites special.

Let us take care of you Dolomites Ski Tours’ packages are designed to make your trip one you will never forget. From our base in the classic village of Campitello you’ll have easy access to neighbouring villages and facilities. Each day we explore new mountains and ski areas. Our resort hosts will find the best snow and conditions in any weather, be it the 12km glacier run of The Marmolada, the sanctuary of Vigo’s tree-lined slopes or the eye-watering screams down Ciampac, Buffaure and Val Gardena’s Downhill Course. Around the famous Sella Ronda
route we ski anything from 35–75km in a day without catching the same lift twice! We aim to take the hassles out of your holiday: all transfers, lift tickets, accommodation and resort hosts are included. All you have to do is enjoy the delights of the region. In Italian they call it “la bella vita” — the beautiful life. Come and find out how they live it, and experience a taste of The Dolomites for yourself! www.dolomitesskitours.com.au

CAMPITELLO — SKI WEEKS & SKI GUIDING CAMPITELLO
GUIDED SKI WEEKS
The heart of The Dolomites
December 26—March 05, 2015
Campitello di Fassa (1,442m) is a typical alpine resort village in the Fassa Valley, in the heart of the Dolomites. From here we have access to everything the Dolomites has to offer. A 125-person cablecar takes us 1,000 vertical metres to the Sella Ronda ski region with 200 lifts. Campitello has kept its original charm and ambience but still offers the facilities and luxuries of a modern ski resort: excellent hotels, pensiones and apartments, restaurants, cafes and shops.
These weeks are the ultimate way to experience everything great about the Dolomites – just ask anyone who’s been on one!
There are a number of specialty shops, including a supermarket, bank (ATM) and a variety of ski shops and boutiques. Enjoy the afternoon sun at one of the many outdoor cafes and join us in the evenings at Bar Tobia. Nightlife revolves around several village bars and a range of restaurants, with other choices in villages just minutes up or down the valley.
SKI FACTS Elevation: Top 2,950m. Base 1,450m. Vertical: 1,500m. Longest run 7km. Lifts (Fassa Valley): Including 5 cablecars, 4 gondolas and 15 quad chairs. Slopes: Beginner 20%, Int. 45%, Adv. 35% Ski Hire: Skis, boots, poles from $100/week Lessons (private): $50 an hour.
Based in our village of Campitello, we head off each day to explore different areas within the closest five valleys. We discover new resorts, spectacular mountains, beautiful valleys and a seemingly endless number of groomed runs. The groups average six skiers per guide and we ski at a comfort level to suit the group. Groups can be mixed and matched after each day as required or as desired. Our guides will show you the best areas (for the prevailing weather) and locations, plus many mountain or village restaurants to ensure you enjoy your week to the fullest. Highlights of the week include the day-long Sella Ronda route (45–75km), skiing past a 16th century castle in Val Gardena, the thrilling downhill course at St Cristina, the gentle runs of Corvara, the steeper runs of Arabba, the inspiring Marmolada Glacier and special morning and lunch stops no matter the location. SKIER ABILITY: Strong intermediate – skiing confidently on most runs. INCLUSIONS: 6 days’ guiding with Australian ski guides. Ski different ski areas and hundreds of runs, including the Sella Ronda circuit. PRICE: $640 (DEC 26–MAR 05).

CANAZEI — SKI WEEKS & SKI GUIDING DOLOMITES SKI SAFARIS
ABOUT OUR SKI HOSTS…
CANAZEI
(2 days – Wednesday & Thursday)
Dolomites Ski Tours has long appreciated the benefits of knowledgeable and fun-loving ski hosts.
Canazei (1,460m) is in the Fassa Valley and just a few kilometres up the road from Campitello. It is a larger village, with more restaurants, cafes, good shopping and relaxing wine bars.
Dolomites Ski Safaris offer a unique skiing experience. The overnight tour takes in some of the most spectacular scenery and skiing in The Dolomites – and we know all the great places to visit. From Campitello we ski towards Cortina and the high-altitude mountain rifugio (lodge) at Lagazuoi (2,752m), a trip of about 50km! From here we ski the Col Gallina and Cinque Torri (Five Towers) ski areas above Cortina, with uncrowded runs and wonderful scenery. At the end of the day we relax over drinks and watch the sun set over the majestic Dolomites from our accommodation at Rifugio Lagazuoi, arguably the most spectacular view in the Dolomites. Later we enjoy a hearty, three-course meal and some of the local wines.
The company understands that a good ski guide can make or break a holiday in a region as vast as the Dolomites. After all, it’s the guides’ job to ensure you have a great time in this stunning and unique destination.
Accommodation is modern and ranges from bed-and-breakfasts, hotels and apartments to 4-star hotels. Access to the mountain is on a high-speed, 15-person gondola that moves 2,400 skiers per hour. This lift links into the famous Sella Ronda region. Canazei has a home ski trail that arrives on the edge of the historic part of the village.
SKI FACTS p Head guide Mario Longhitano
By day’s end we return to Campitello via a different route, either through Val Gardena or Arabba, depending on the best skiing conditions. SKIER ABILITY: Advanced intermediate; a skier who skis comfortably on most runs. INCLUSIONS:
• Overnight twin-share accommodation • Dinner and breakfast • 2 days’ expert guiding. • Breathtaking views PRICE: $240 ON GUIDED SKI WEEK; $445 ON ‘CAMPITELLO SKI WEEK’.

After breakfast the next morning, we are the first to ski the 12km down through the Lagazuoi Valley, past frozen waterfalls. We then take, a horse-drawn “rope tow” across the valley. From here we explore the expansive skiing around Alta Badia, including the leg-testing World Cup GS Course at La Villa.
Elevation: Top 2,950m. Base 1,460m.
Ski Hire: Skis, boots, poles from $100/week Lessons (private): $50 an hour.
Australian Mario Longhitano is the manager and head guide of Dolomites Ski Tours. Having been there since the ski company’s inception 30 years ago, Mario has never missed a season. What he doesn’t know about the mountains, resorts, villages and restaurants is probably unknown to most! Other guides include “Rocket” Stevenson, Anthony Elias, Greg Collings, Dave Auert, Phil Doyle and Martin & Helen Longhitano, some of whom are long-serving Dolomites Ski Tours’ guides with many years of experience. Their experience and knowledge goes way beyond the mountains to encompass most aspects of village life and culture. Using our versatile guides we are able to cater for different skiing abilities so that everyone gets the most from their holiday.

SKIING THE DOLOMITES – THE FACTS WHY GO WITH DOLOMITES SKI TOURS? Dolomites Ski Tours has been offering ski holidays in Italy for 30 years. The people you deal with in Australia are the ones who meet and ski with you in the Dolomites. Dolomites Ski Tours specialises in Italy and is probably the only group that has skied all the major Italian resorts. We know everything about skiing in Italy! Our staff can help you with any aspect of skiing, travelling, shopping, eating – even down to advice on local attractions such as the Ice-Man Museum in Bolzano. We back our bookings with travel tips, resort maps, connection timetables and more.
SKIING IN ITALY The Italian approach to skiing is a relaxed and friendly one. Skiing is only part of the experience; food, wine, lunch and friends are equally important. The mountain restaurants (rifugi) are highlights for most Australians and there are lots of them around the mountains. Most offer excellent food, atmosphere and value. Choose from a wide variety of traditional mountain dishes and superb local and regional wines. And of course, there’s always the great coffee and a spread of pastries to tempt you between runs. No other European country offers quite the same alpine mix as Italy.
GETTING THERE Reaching the Dolomites can be a wondrous journey. Apart from Rome, the gateway cities to the Dolomites are Innsbruck (Austria), Verona, Venice and Milan. Trains run from these cities to the mountain towns of Trento and Bolzano. From there, bus services leave for the resorts of Campitello, Corvara and Val Gardena. There are also flights from Rome to Bolzano.
a ski group and enjoy the best of the Dolomites in the company of other skiers. Single rooms are available in Campitello hotels.
WHITE CHRISTMAS Christmas and New Year can be delightful in the mountains. Imagine going skiing on Christmas morning and stopping for lunch at a mountain “rifugio”. Join your fellow skiers for drinks on Christmas night in a village bar, or enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the forest. Witness traditional Christmas pageants and fireworks in the village square on New Year’s Eve.

KOSTNER FAMILY:
APARTMENTS
Corvara tourism pioneers Home from an expedition to the Himalayas in the early 1900s, Franz Kostner was the first to recognise the potential for tourism in the valley. In 1908 he acquired the hotel. In the 1930s he founded a private transport company to bring tourists to the valley. Franz also built the first chairlift in Italy, the Col Alto lift, that fittingly lies just a few steps out his back door. Over the years, the entire family has helped to promote the development of tourism and the preservation of the culture and customs of the Alta Badia area. They do so with enthusiasm and a spirit that shows no signs of fading.
