ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO | 2012-2016

Architecture has to be greater than just architecture. It has to address social values, as well as technical and aesthetic values. On top of that, the one true gift that an architect has is his or her imagination. We take something ordinary and elevate it to something extraordinary. Samuel Mockbee

SCULPTURE GALLERY Located in the SOMA District of San Francisco, the Sculpture Gallery intendsmto activate the pedestrians at this major thoroughfare at Howard & 2nd Street. In designing the Gallery, I developed a parti that consisted of cubes of glass and concrete to play with the various spaces within the building. The Sculpture Gallery features many spaces such as gallery exhibits, sculpture courtyards and a double-height lobby.

ARCHITECTURE SCHOOL Overlooking the Richmond District in San Francisco, the Architecture School rests atop the University of San Francsico’s Lone Mountain Campus. Taking inspiration from the mountain’s steep slope, the design focuses on a terracing effect using offset bays of space that mimic the surrounding context. Inside, the School is full of design studios, woodshops, presentation spaces and roof-top gardens. The facade is made up of alternating opaque and transparent panels that create a dynamic pattern.

MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING COMPLEX Nestled in between two major roadways in San Francisco, the MultiFamily Housing Complex balances natural and built spaces by providing apartment units with outdoor courtyards that act as an extension of the nearby Panhandle Park. The design takes the form of 2 L-shaped complexes that encapsulate an inner courtyard. The Complex features a push-pull design with balconies and protruding bay windows that create the complex facade.

CENTER FOR THE WORD Intending to combine written word and digital media, the Center for the Word creates its own building typology within the booming SOMA District of San Francisco’s downtown. The building gets it jagged design from the idea of shards of space that are pieced together like a mosaic. One major feature of the building is the inner courtyard that alternates at each level creating a terracing effect. The triangulated roof pulls at various corners providing a jagged aesthetic for the Center.

CAMBODIAN COTTAGE The Cambodian Cottage derives its design from traditional Khmer architecture with a modernized version of an elevated duplex-style cottage that provides a covered gathering space underneath. The roof system includes a tiered gable and shed roofs that create double-height spaces inside and mimic the houses of traditional Cambodian structures. The cottage is located in Sihanoukville, a coastal resort town located at the edge of Cambodia.
