OBJECTIVE

Provide spaces that evoke a sense of community, technology, and interaction through the use of steelcase products. Using research-based design, create a co working environment for the future that meets the program objectives and represents what NEXT as a company will embark. Provide space to accommodate 35 employees, a work cafe, forum space, and a variety of work environments.

CONCEPT

NEXT is an innovative company in which employees work towards the same goal in mind; to achieve peak performance through collaboration and social discourse. This resembles the co working environment of the ANT COLONY. These creatures work in large numbers to create a whole, expanding their environment by working in straight lines to thoroughly and efficiently grow and expand as a whole, changing their movement patterns based on individual interactions to optimize solutions.

Orange, Teal, and Green promote creativity and productivity. Linear circulation allows direct and effortless access while reinforcing the concept of the design. Ideation spaces allow pockets for impulse meetings. Areas and zones are distributed evenly to both sides of the building allowing access to all employees.

08

LEGEND

The Ant Colony concept was implemented by visually creating multiple layers, to give the feel of being under ground. For the Open Office areas, drop down ceiling details provide acoustic support while visually dividing areas, lighting provides both ambient and task lighting and illuminates architectural features.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this project was to 1) curate an exhibition narrative, 2) design the exhibition itself, and 3) design the interior spaces to complete the exhibition and existing building exterior. The program for this building includes a gallery store, lobby, exhibition gallery and two outdoor gardens.

CONCEPT

The Alexander Girard Exhibition and Museum will showcase the growth and evolution of Girard’s textile work and use of his designs. The exhibition and museum design is inspired by his love and passion for folk art. Girard’s textiles at the beginning of his career were more modern, with crisp, clean lines and less color compared to his later works. His later textiles stand out with brighter hues and more intricate shapes. The evolution in his work was derived through his passion for folk art “dolls”.

MUSEUM

ALEXANDER GIRARD Area One: “Open your eyes”

This area will display Girard’s textiles, plans and design drawings for his projects, so that viewer can visually see the detail of his designs and process work. The focus will be set on his textile work from his early works to his later designs of environmental enrichment panels.

Area Two: Application

This area will display the Girard Group, Girard’s furniture collection. Because Charles Eames had a significant influence in his career, this area will also include some of Eames furniture upholstered in Girard’s fabric.

Area Three: “Open your heart”

“Infinite are man’s expressions of beauty and love; open your eyes... Your heart to them and you will unite the people of the world.” -Alexander Girard

16

This area will solely focus on Girard’s love for his “dolls” which served as his inspiration.

LOBBY

The Lobby is open and allows clear circulation paths towards the exhibition gallery, exterior garden and museum store. Main gallery entry is marked by one of Girard’s eye catching Environmental Enrichment designs.

TEXTILE GALLERY

The fabric display units will span the vertical height of the room allowing the fabric to replicate the many applications the designs were used for, such as wall panels, hanging tapestries, art, and floor coverings. A skylight with UV protectant glass will illuminate the textiles to add a dramatic lighting affect and to highlight the length and repeat of the textile patterns.

MUSEUM

ALEXANDER GIRARD

Furniture Gallery

The warm wooden gallery will display Girard’s furniture designs along with Eames furniture that were well known for using Girard’s upholstery. The wood interior reflects both Girard’s invention of the built-in bookshelf and is designed as a silhouette and frame of a residential house. This area also creates a “room with in a room” a motto Girard used in his designs.

20

Doll Gallery

The last and third gallery will show the fundamentals of what drove Girard’s designs. His Dolls where intended to be sold in multiples, as a collection, and are displayed as such. The central structure celebrates the buildings shape and is inspired by the Irwin Miller fireplace. Along the perimeter the dolls are shown individually with a mirrored case which allows the viewer to see details front and back.

Gallery Store

In addition to the Herman Miller collections and textile designs. The gallery store will sell merchandise books which cover every aspect of his distinctive career along with graphic textiles, folk art dolls and other exhibition souvenirs.

OBJECTIVE

To create a facility that commits to the integrity, growth, excellence, and wellness for those entering assisted living and dementia care with the following perameters: Sq. Ft. - 50,000 max Dementia Care Occupancy - 24 Units min. Assisted Living Occupancy - 28 Units min.

CONCEPT

Wimberley prides itself on the history and traditions embedded within the Rodeo Culture.

The rodeo is a yearly event that brings families and people of all ages together. Pulling from general rodeo events, especially barrel racing, a purposeful design where residence are lead through the space with the high efficiency and a clearly defined flow of traffic, which resembles the barrel racing pattern, will be created. To unify the space, mixed materials with various textures create multiple visual interests that are inspired by the rodeo, while adding warmth to this building. Barrel racing combines the horse’s athletic ability and the horsemanship skills of a rider in order to safely and successfully maneuver a horse in a pre-determined pattern around three barrels (typically three fifty-five gallon metal drums) placed in a triangle in the center of an arena.

OBJECTIVE

This residential client driven project incorporated universal design to meet the needs of a multi-generational family of seven and provide adequate amenities for individuals’ wheelchair bound. The design was to maintain a traditional charm and incorporate all the family’s functional needs.

CONCEPT

The concept of symbiosis was used to shape the home into spaces that work together. Eliminating long, closed corridors and introducing more transitional spaces created an openness allowing interaction in between areas. This, and angled walls, grant easy access between private and public area. The concept is translated through visual connection between rooms and spaces.

Inspiration relates to the need for a universally designed space that promotes family communication between generations. Implementing short travel distances between major areas and well lit zones make this a suitable design for a multigenarational family.
