House with a Vista unbuilt design 2008 collaboration
Jan Rudolf
This house is designed as a simple block with minimum divisions to save as much energy as possible. From the street the house is invisible with green facade. The existence of the house is present only by a window - an eye - above passing by people. The house is penetrated by two other volumes. On the ground floor it is a block which creates natural sunshading on the south side and entrance on the northern side. On the first floor it is a block - tube with two eyes - that connects the garden with the street. The wooden structure is cladded with horizontal oak planks in dark brown colour. The street facade is created by a metal net wall with plants which is a fence at the same time. Openings are created in the south and western side of the house with garden orientation. To the north is the facade closed. 16 | 17

Gallery of Consciousness 2008 Design Studio of Michaela Brožová and Petra M. Hájek Czech Technical University in Prague Faculty of Architecture
Junk is a cellular equation that teaches the user facts of general validity. I have learned a great deal from using junk: I have seen life measured out in eye-droppers of morphine solution. I experienced the agonizing deprivation of junk sickness, and the pleasure of relief when junkthirsty cells drank from the needle. Perhaps all pleasure is relief. I have learned the cellular stoicism that junk teaches the user. I have seen a cell full of sick junkies silent and immobile in separate misery. They knew the pointlessness of complaining or moving. They knew that basically no one can help anyone else. There is no key, no secret someone else has that he can give you. William Burroughs – Junk Contemplation space based on a libretto. A way of a junky through the process of quitting on drugs. Colapse, suffering, shadow, silence, solitude, awarness, light, rise, consciousness. Perimeter walls are left in raw stone after excavation. Other constructions are executed in concrete or reinforced concrete. 20 | 21

Libretto I am not complaining about you elements! I haven’t given the kingdom to you! Beat me, if you like it. Polity is here for citizens, not citizens for polity. I am a man who has been aggrieved more than he had ever aggrieved anybody else. It is raining. Do you write peoms? Václav Havel, Leaving Design and program of the house is derived from libretto and given site. House is a public space, office and personal space at the same time. Tese functons devide the building horizontally to three different spaces. Floors are connected by vertical staircase and greenery Public Contunity and extension of public square. Works as a place to rest and hide out against rain, snow and heat. Protection against elements. Office Roof of public space. Connection to the public square and people. Office as instrument to serve citizens and protect them. Terrace in the eastern part of the city is used as a place to contemplation. Personal Small room excluded from the house by little staircase. With large window towards the forest and little vista towards the square. Chancellor’s personal space for relaxation and education.

Prague Meets Praha, Czech Republic 2009 Design Studio of Mara Skujenice Workshop of Industrial Design Czech Technical University Faculty of Architecture,
Prague Meets is a project of social design, which reacts to the problems of the society. In this case especialy of Prague and its inhabitants. This project is about improving communication problems between people, interpersonal relationship, unhapiness and negativity by creating random social-cultural events which make people stop, look, meet, break the barriers and talk to each other. Projcct is divided into two parts: 1. PUBLIC RESEARCH, 2. PROJECT COMPLETION. As the result of the project we should be able to create communicative, happy, respectufull and understandable society which would be nicer to live.

Aquarium House in a Tunnel Praha – Vítkov, Czech Republic 2010 Design Studio of Petr Hájek and Jaroslav Hulín Czech Technical University ]Faculty of Architecture

The PHIDA Wall 2010 Design Studio of Torgeir Norheim Kansas State University College of Architecture, Planning and Design
The wall is metal frame, 1 inch thick with vertical wooden poles 6x7 inch. The wall is reinforced by horizontal plates on the top and on the bottom. Visible on the top, hidden in the ground on the bottom. The wooden poles are working as the membrane of the frame. Permeability Wooden poles in steel frame, space minimum of 1 inch between poles; possibility for the wind to blow through, for the sun to shine through and for the people to walk through. Harmony Harmony in the rhythm of standing poles; two opposite lines are in contrast, which also creates harmony. Imagination Was used to finish this assignment. Diversity The possibility of wood to absorb and release water makes the poles expand and contract. Adaptability

The whole pool encloses the site from the south, lays on the intersection of the main axes, opens to east, south and west, connects to the biggest landmarks in park - the hilland the valley. Professional x recreational swimmers Each group has different demands: competitors demand calm area where they can focus and concentrate at their performance, recreational swimmers want have fun, jump in the water, chill out, walk around, sun tan, meet other people, relax; therefore the hill works as natural separator: lap pool and diving pool are placed on the western side dug into the ground, all other pools are exposed next to the hill above the valley allowing the people to stroll around. Adaptability The idea of closing the building in winter or when it is cold and opening it in summer is strong quality idea, which i tried to achieve from the beginning of design; light sliding space truss construction with two layers of membrane made the idea real; the whole construction folds from the recreational part of the pool towards the competition area to keep the calm, undisturbed area to concentrate. Implementing The PHIDA Wall The wall from a single free standing object being permeable, harmonious, imaginative, diverse and adaptable became a pool program manifesto, which changes its face according to the function inside it.

Memorial to the Victims of Communism House “under Stalin” Praha – Letná, Czech Republic 2011 Design Studio of Petra Hájek and Jaroslav Hulín Czech Technical University in Prague Faculty of Architecture
Monument to the victims of communism as a manifesto of remembrance and an allert of what is communism capable of to the present evolution in the country. The communism reign is responsible for many wasted lives. The living forest on the hillside transitions into the dead forest of the monument, which consists of 5075 glassfibre stakes symbolizing the number of wasted human lives during communist ocupation in Czechoslovakia. Each stake belongs to one person. The stakes sound in the wind, creating a whisper of thousands of souls. Pathways wind along the monument, connecting the forest with the city; underneath them, a visitor center and related spaces are located underground, built out of water resistant concrete.

Administrative Building design, construction supervision, furnishing Kosyka s.r.o., Jihlava, Czech Republic 2011
New administrative and production building for an electric cable contact systems company. Into an existing structural system and chosen wall material an exterior appearance is designed - size, shape and implementation of window and door openings. The regular and repetitve rythm of the facade is connected to the variability of interior space. Western facade is dominated by a concrete cube entrance. Office spaces open to the west towards the city vistas. Interior is designed simple, durable, renewable and easy to maintain. Raw and coloured concrete and office carpet squares are used for flooring. Office space is divided into a working open space and a resting space. Design was not the only part of this project. Part of the project was also construction supervision from the beginning until kolaudace as well as the interior furnishing.

Office in a renesaince castle in the center of Hrotovice. Ruined original floor, falling apart original windows and missing door. Renovation of the floor was no longer possible. The new oak floor is a precise copy of the original floor. Windows are renovated. Entrance door is a replica of original decorated door. The conservative approach was also applied to the furniture design to represent responsibility and the city office therefore black and golden colours are applied. Golden oak floor is accompanied with black beech wood desk, table and shelves and golden fabric chairs with black wood legs.

Chapel for Reverent Area Ležáky 2011 competition – team Petr Hájek, Tomáš Hradečný, Dominik Saitl, Cornelia Klien
Lezaky were burned down, ruins of houses were dismantled, men and women were killed, children were abducted. Nothing has been spared. Only nature remained. In honour to the place chaple designed for Lezaky does not step above ground. The shape of the chapel, its placement and materials are designed to tell the story of Lezaky. Uneven shape of the chapel is intersection of burned down houses. The shape is symbol of common fate. The boundary between life and death. House meant residence. Residence was verdict. The chapel is entered through high wooden door. Interior of the chapel is simple. Walls and ceiling are made out of ramed earth, which represents the connection with place and fate. With all respect there is no new material brought in. Chapel is empty, on walls there are names of victims. In the ceiling there are narrow holes. Sun rays project light spot on the wall of the chapel only at one day in year. On anniversary of the slaughtering. June 24. Rays of light touch the names only at one moment. Urns with ash are placed in small crypt - vault under the floor which is enclosed by heavy stone.

Project Anastomosis presents a different view on the functioning of contemporary city and solution of its problems. The city is understood as a closed structure with “frozen evolution”. Its further developement can’t be done by rebuilding the city but by its adaptation. To start this healing process it is necessary to activate small but important connections – [anastomosis]. The exhibition presents 65 architectural designs for 4 city locations. These projects are the result of two year research in the design studio of Petr Hajek and Jaroslav Hulin at the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague and in Laboratory for Experimantal Architecture (LEA). In terms of its evolution, today’s Central European city is frozen in time. Its urban structure and infrastructure is rigidly defined. As a result, it responds all they more painfully to new challenges and demands. The [anastomosis] project is the result of years of research in the field of urbanism. We do not wish to reconfigure, supplement, or repair the city. Our aim is to launch a process of regeneration, to merely create tissue connections

that will activate and bring fresh life-giving blood to the various parts of the city. We call these connections [anastomosis]. Designs are presented through tree dimensional models on the exhibition area of 900 m2. 80 | 81

Due to economical reasons we suggest to take the existing building down. The new house is a singl solid element as are all the houses in the neighbourhood. The designed house is a monument. Stands firm. This simple volume has a gabled roof. The shape of the roof has its connection in the mountains behind the house. This geometry ties the house together with the place where it stands. We have designed a hybrid consisting of a gallery, a garage and a family house. All of the functions are joined together. You can park your car inside and have a nice view on it from the living room. You could have breakfast under the wing of the plane or you can swim in the pool and adore the fine shapes .of the vehicles

Container Student Housing Berlin, Germany 2013 - team Petr Hájek, Tomáš Hradečný, Dominik Saitl, Cornelia Klien, Martin Stoss, Barbara Bencová invited competition
The inspiration for the proposal was a monastery with a wall around. We are using containers like „Lego“ to build a simple structure, which encloses the whole building site. This solution provides protection against the sound from the nearby railway tracks and creates by that a calm inner garden atmosphere. The rooms are oriented towards the courtyard and similar to cells of monks fitted only with essential equipment. The living units are accessible via galleries along the outer facade. In order to improve sound insulation and protection against weather, the gallery is covered by a polycarbonate shell.

Ehon-no-oka Farm area rehabilation project 2010 Koisago, Nakagawa, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan Design Studio of Taketo Shimohigoshi & Masumitsu Nozawa Hosei University Tokyo, Japan Graduate School of Engineering & Design Faculty of Architecture urban plan collaboration
MarkĂŠta KorbeliusovĂĄ
The area of Tochogi was struck by earthquake in March 2011. House fall apart, land was devastated. Farm that used to work as education center for families and children needs to be reactivated. Syntax between traditional Japanese architecture and modern structure as reflection of regionalism, agricultural landscape and contemporary design. Farmyard and existing barn as a heart for various uses; market, crops collection, manipulation, theater; surrounded by buildings, on a platform below and above fields. Vistas, gardens, intimate corners, existing trees, depth and privacy are composed together with the sense of place - MA with L shaped walls. To provide atability three types of structural elements are designed. Traditional Japanese wooden columns on concrete foundation and L shaped walls made out of concrete or horizontally stacked wooden planks. Each of these elements is selft load bearing and independent on the rest of structure to minimise the effect of possible future earthquake.

House with Three Scopes Krasonice, Czech Republic 2013
A traditional Czech village house owned by a young growing family situated at the northern edge of a big garden. Very low attic is due to the house and surrounding conditions the only place to grow the living space. The room for the now small children needs to grow. Children will spend a lot of time in their room. The room grows through three skylights with framed vistas into the garden, the garden view-scopes. Cross ventilation is ensured through side openings in the view-scopes and the roof windows on the northern side of the roof. The kitchen with dinning room serves as the connection between the two floors. Ceiling between dinning room and hallway upstairs is left open. Existing materials from the house, such as wood from renovated ceilings, is being reused for new construction, floors and furniture. Clear disinction is made between the new and old. The new black metal boxes and the larch wood shed make a clear statement of respecting the past and being built in the present.

Imagine a space which shrinks and adapts according to your wishes. Space which is soft or hard, space which is big or small. A room which is full of material and when you enter it creates your desired space. You can eat, cook, live, sleep or work at one place, you dont have to move, the space moves around you. All that is done with foam blocks, vacuum pump, computer software and your imagination via an application on your smart phone. One semester experiments were very broad. Many paths were followed. The final product which was tested in 1:1 scale mock up to prove the theory and experiments are working is presented here. This project is being further developed and real life applications are being designed. 114 | 115

The foam deflation is controlled by system of valves which are connected to a vacuum pump in physical model. These valves are connected to servo engines which communicate with Arduino board via Grasshopper and touch OSC application in user’s smartphone. The touch OSC application controls virtual model, physical scale model as well as 1:1 scale model. Each user is than able to create his own scenario in a room including the softness and size of the space created. 118 | 119

250 x 250 x 50 mm The theory is further extended and applied to The Transformer House to imagine how the Rietveld House, which was taken as example, might look like today using present modern technologies. Images on the left page show the house transformation. Movable floor panels with integrated compressors and lock connections allow for independent room and space transformation in two or more levels. These are shown in diagrams and details on this page. On this size and scale kinect systems need to be applied to control the house transformation. 122 | 123
