About us
Dona Kolors is a female clothing brand based in a social project. It has the objective of offering an economic and labour opportunity to women who live in social exclusion. All the benef its are reinvested in women’s sewing training and self-employment. It also encourages the access to the culture and the necessary learning to help them f ind a job. One way of insertion for these women is Dona Kolors’ atelier, p l a c e d i n B a r c e l o n a , w h e r e a l l o u r g a r m e n t s a r e m a d e .
Their hands, stitch by stitch, create something more than a garment. Their hands transform realities. Hands that thread their futures with courage and hope, and sew dreams of a better life.

Since the twelfth century the textile industry in Catalonia and, especially in Te r r a s s a , h a s a c q u i re d a n i m p o r t a n t ro l e , f rom being the main economic activity, to be a sign of export through the Mediterranean Sea. The Industrial Revolution changed the economic and social model, replacing the manual activity by the mechanic one. In this catalog, we have moved to this town to photograph the most recent history of this industry.

The society began to change, moving away f rom the agricultural economy and focusing on the industry. The owners of the factories created an important local bourgeoisie that equipped itself with a large number of urban facilities, athenaeums and theaters. Also, it was built one of the icons of modernism: the MasĂa Freixa.

The rivalry between the wealthy men made them go to the most famous architects to build their factories and residences, building them under the modernist features: abundant use of curved and asymmetrical lines, and aesthetics inspired by nature.

In 1877 took place the f irst strike of workers, due to its low salaries and the hard conditions in the steam factories. In the f irst third of the twentieth century the supply of coal for electricity was changed. One of the most famous factories was t h e Va p o r Ay m e r i c h , A m a t i J ove r , c u r re n t headquarters of the Museu Nacional de l a C i è n c i a i l a Te c n o l o g i a , i n a u g u r a te d i n 1908.
