Balancing School and Dating When you are in love, your priorities become a little skewed. Suddenly your whole world revolves around someone else and some of your responsibilities become shirked or ignored. However, it is important to remember the commitments you have made previously, such as the dedication to complete a degree.
Discuss Priorities Just because you have found someone new does not mean that your prior commitments are not still important. If your significant other has your best interests at heart he or she will agree and recognize the importance of your education and earning a degree. At the start of a relationship, you may need to have a discussion informing your significant other of the things you believe are important and that you are not willing to sacrifice. If you state clearly that school is a priority for you then it will become a priority for them as well and they will respect it.
Balance Your Money At a certain point, spending money on dates can get out of hand, especially if you are the one that is paying for all of your dinner dates and movie tickets. It takes a little more creativity but you can find dating ideas that do cost little to money at all. Rather than go out for a movie stay in and watch an old one. Do a craft project, or hike outside. Do not spend all of your money on dates or you will not have any money left for necessities like rent or school.
Time Management While you are dating in school it can be hard to manage your time, even after your discussion about priorities. Sometimes you have to hold yourself to the promises you made to yourself about your education. Whether you are just starting or just about to graduate from a college in Colorado Springs you can easily become in danger of not completing your education. If you layout a schedule from the beginning of your semester and stick to it you will more easily be able to stay within the boundaries you have set for yourself.
Be Prepared for Anything Even more difficult than balancing dating with school is adjusting to life after breaking up. Some are eager to rebound, while others go into a more vegetative state that struggles to get anything done, let alone focus on school. Every relationship is a risk, and one that you should be prepared for. It may be your idea or it may feel like it comes out of nowhere, but remember that even if you are struggling with
a break up or even a divorce you have made a commitment to your education that will greatly benefit you in the future where your ex will not. By being prepared for anything to happen you will be preparing yourself to not let your personal life interfere with your professional life. Separating the two is crucial for your focus in the real world at the job you will receive with your degree.
