What does Obama Care mean for Nurses? Those looking to get a degree in Nursing should be aware of how the future changes in America will directly affect them. There are a number of changes coming that may deter or encourage nurses to join the medical ranks.
First with increased health care availability there will also need to be an increase of healthcare professionals. Even without the law passing there will be a need for healthcare professionals as time goes on.
Second There will specifically be a greater demand for nurses and nurse practitioners to become primary care providers. This will continue to be true as more and more find accessibility to hospitals because of their health insurance providers.
Third More and more healthcare professions will require post-secondary education in order to address the needs of a growing population of people taking advantage of the health care available. This will be good for those just coming out of college looking for work.
Fourth Nurses are going to find themselves taking on more responsibility as doctors become booked and need more help. This will require much more knowledge and skill from the staff of nurses working in the hospital.
Fifth The law if passed, will most likely lower the already underpaid nurses. This is due to the need for hospitals to cover their growing costs in relation to the increase of patients.
Sixth Because costs will go up and pay will go down, many doctors will be leaving the market because they are fed up. This may be good for nurses and PAs but they may find that the load is hard to bare as well.
Seventh
A challenge than many don’t think about is that a lot of the responsibility will happen because many hospitals will have to downsize and make drastic cuts in employment. Hospitals will have to run with or without them. While considering these pros and cons of going into nursing, one should ask one’s self “why do I want to go into nursing”. If it is to help people and make a difference then now is a better time than ever to join the health care industry. While many think that nurses will have security in the work place for the next 20 years it is really hard to determine how hospitals will function with the increase of patients. There will ultimately have to be downsizing and changes that may affect nursing jobs. The great thing about getting a nursing degree in Boise is that it can be a good back up plan and does not take as much time as an MD. For those nurses who are willing to move around there will definitely be room in some hospitals as they find themselves understaffed. This is a principal true in most industries because there are often jobs available where most people don’t want to go and live. If you find yourself struggling to find a job it is important to find out if there are opportunities outside of your specific vicinity. Photo Credit: Opinion-Forum.com, Hernandezfisher
