Research says that the Australian car rental industry increased in value by 10% in 2013. Experts say that the rise of the sector can be attributed to the nation’s reputation as a safe country where international visitors are free to drive as long as they have international driving licenses. The rental car industry continues to thrive as it makes a significant impact to the tourism of the country. Experts say that 20% of the 2.4 million foreign visitors who visited Australia rented cars to travel between stopover destinations in 2009. On the other hand, 990,000 of those who had domestic travels used rental vehicles. The participants were visitors to the North Coast of New South Wales. The survey concluded that 43% of visitors who went to Coffs Coast airport; 30% to Newcastle airport; 26% to Gold Coast airport and 21% to Ballina airport rented a vehicle on arrival to explore the Australian state. Experts further explain that 32% of the participants considered renting. 40% of them said that they decided to go with renting as it comes with a sense of freedom and independence while traveling. 22% explained that with rental vehicles, they felt that they “could do more, explore more, or go further.� Some also added that hiring a vehicle is more convenient.
Further Statistics The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that there is a high demand for rental vehicles. 2007 and 2008 saw tourists spend$1.36 billion on rental vehicles. 20% of the figure came from domestic business and government travel; 30% from foreign travels, and 50% from domestic travel (solely for recreation purposes). The thriving figures continue up until 2009.Experts found that domestic tourists spent $864 million, while 812,450international guests used $369 million. The rental vehicle industry is a major contributor to the thriving tourism of Australia. With the rise of different rental operators and the consistent flow of tourists, experts foresee stable growth in the coming years.
