July09-10,2022--Despitethelooming threatsofthepandemic,theyoungpeople ofTondocelebratedtheirParishYouthDay aspartofthe53rdanniversaryofSt.John BoscoParish-Tondo

OnJuly09,2022,around300youngpeople, whofrequenttheDBYCdaily,gatheredas earlyas6AMfortheAmazingRaceThere were20teamsandeachteamwas composedofdifferentmembersfrom differentyouthassociations.

Fr.GaudencioCarandang,Jr.,Rectorofthe Parish,welcomedtheparticipantsinhis OpeningRemarkswhichwasfollowedbya Zumbadance. Withtheirunmistakablelove fordancing,thelivelyandexuberantcrowd groovedintothemusic.

Therewere20stationspreparedforthe race,severalofwhichwerelocatedatthe nearbybarangaysoftheparish.Therewere alsoboothsputupfortheeventTherewas aboothbytheAuxiliumSodalitydedicated toMarywhereparticipantscandroptheir intentions

General’sCorner,mannedbythemembersof theSavioFriendsClubandtheMagoneChoir, offeredsomerefreshmentsforthetiredand thirstyparticipants.TheKnightsoftheAltar cameupwithaConfessionBoothwherethe youngpeoplecanposttheirinmostsentiments fortheirspecialsomeone TheWeddingBooth andtheJailBoothwerealsoahitduringthe event.

Whiletheyoungpeoplewererunningaround thevicinityofDBYCTondo,theChildrenMinistry heldtheirgamesandcelebrationonthepatio oftheparishchurchwhiletheadultmembers oftheparishassociationsheldtheirsatthe gym.Everythingwashappening simultaneouslywithloudmusic,banderitas, andalotoffunandlaughter.

Taskedtoidentifytheformativeand developmentalprogramsoftheSalesian YouthLeadersAcademy,theparticipantsof theBaguiosessionbuiltontheresultsofthe BatulaomeetingsheldlastMay.

Tobegintheplanningsession,Fr.Armand Roblezarecountedthejourneyoftheyouth ministriespost-Synodoandsharedwiththe groupthefruitoftheministries’work,suchas SynodoPRIMEandtheYouthMinistry Framework,whichweretoserveasbasesfor thesession’sdeliverables.

Fromthere,theparticipantsweredivided intotheSEPPdimensionsand,assistedby theSalesianspresent,organizedthedraft oftheAcademycurriculum,toberolled outwiththeemploymentoftheEQUIP model(Empowerwithconvictions, Qualifywithbehaviors,Identifywith values,Instructwithskills,andPrompt withheroes).

Alongwiththemeetings,thegroupalso beganthesessiondayswiththeHoly Massandweregivengroup-enriching activities,facilitatedandprocessedwith theinsightsofMs.VivesReyes.

Attheendofthethree-daysession,a workingcommitteeoffivecoordinators wasformalized,tomeetagainbytheend ofJulytostylizetheprogramsidentified bythebody.

I slipped in the shoes of Elizabeth. Calauan is located around 78.5 kilometers from Manila. Withthisdistance,Isincerelyfelttheaffectionandcareofthepeople confreres,friends,and familymembers.Everyvisitrendersanimplicitmessagethatdistancedoesnotmatterifyou lovetheperson.

Sleep is as important as work. Even more vital than breaking your bones for the ministry is gettingafullnight'ssleep Here,Iwasabletosleepthroughthenightforweeksatatimeand noticethepositiveimpactithadonmyprayerlife,thinking,andwellbeing

Lookcloselyandlovedearly.I came from the Seminaryo with over 80 rooms, a large dining hall, and a pretty huge chapel I got used to living with a multitude of confreres But here in Calauan,intimacyisnotfarfrombeingrealized.Iwasforcedtosit,pray,liveandeatwithfour otherconfrereswhoarecontainedliterallyincontainervans Thetag-lineoftherector,"tayotayonangalang,hindipabatayomagmamahalan?"hitsdifferently.

Gardening is making God your partner. Confreres landscaped gardens for each of the Salesian devotions: Don Bosco, Mary, Francis de Sales, Savio, and so on. Being involved, I discovered that if God does not bless the plants, they would not thrive, and worse still, they'll die Gardeningdoesn'tonlyteachuspatience,italsocatechizesusinfaith

Lessismore.God'ssplendorisconstantlyencounteredinthetiniestyetmostessentialthings in life We may have learned this from our pandemic experience The lesser we have, the morewefeelfulfilled.

Right Direction. Calauan showed me that putting forth a lot of time and effort does not necessarily translate into a deeper relationship with God. Taking short moves toward God is alwaysmoredesirablethantakinglongstridesnotdirectedtoHim.

Don Bosco Calauan is an oasis. All through the years, I thought Calauan is just a mission place to minister to. Now I see it as a place of healing, growth, and life that misnisters to us too

Oratory Spirit is the fundamental criterion of a Salesian Presence. Within months, I have been invited to be in the front seat in seeing how the fecundity of God's grace works in the Youth Center, shops, and volunteer works we have in Calauan - they are little Valdoccos in Laguna.

OurLadywalkshere.ThatwasastrongimpressionIgot.Maryisheregatheringherchildren. The devotion of the people to her is just remarkable. Only those who are simple enough can fallinlovewithourLady

DonBoscoLegazpiCity-Basedonpastexperience, Fr.BocNicolas,DBLegazpi's TVETDirectorrealizedthatthe orientationfornewtrainees hadasignificantimpacton theirperformanceatleast duringtheir10monthsinDon Bosco.

Forthisreason,theorientation whichformerlylastedonlyfor afewdayswasnowexpanded tolastforoneweek.Thesixth day(Saturday)isforthe summativeevaluationofthe traineesandanorientationfor theparents.

Sincetherearethreeprograms offered(Agri-Business,AgroMechanics,andGeneral Electricity),theorientation periodlastsforthreeweeks, thatis,oneprogramperweek. Theorientationprogram coversawidevarietyoftopics ThePastoralDepartmentis responsiblefortheVision-

MissionStatement,theLife andWorksofDonBosco,the Mass,andthepracticesof piety.

Thetraineesaregivena Rosaryandaretaughthow toprayit Theyarealsogiven alocally-producedprayer book.

Theyaremadefamiliarwith thecontentoftheprayer book.Ofspecialinterestis learningthepartsoftheMass andtheresponses. Therestoftheweekisspent onreviewingtopicssuchas theschoolrulesand regulations,the5S,safety,the contentoftheprogramthey areenrolledinandOJT.

Timeissetasideaswellfor group-buildingactivities. Lastbutnottheleast,theyare introducedtocommunity workandmorningchores somethingcharacteristicof oureducationalsystem. Wearescheduledtobegin classesonAugust15,2022, Monday.
