DuringthisSeasonofCreation,theKnights ofColumbusandtheDisasterResponse TeamoftheNationalShrineofMaryHelp ofChristiansParishembarkedona "CommunityPlantTreeProject."Theywere inspiredbytheorganicmovementof CommunityPantryattheheightofthe pandemicandwouldliketohelpparishioners tobeself-sufficientandproductive.

Itaimstocelebratewithyoungpeoplethe twomeaningfulyearsofsharinguniqueand inspiringstoriesaboutvocationthattouch theheartsofthepeoplethroughasports league.

Theeventhosted3majorsportsleagues: Basketball,Volleyball,andMobileLegends Leaguewhichareopentoyoungpeopleof anyparish.

Themainhighlightsoftheeventarethe youngpeopleenjoyingthecompetitiveness ofthesports,meetingnewfriendsfromother parishes,havingarecollectionthatexplained thequestionsaboutvocation,andreceiving confessionafteranEucharisticadoration.

Fr GerardoMartin,FINProvincialSuperior,also gracedtheoccasionaswellasFr.JunInocencio, theDBECChancellor,andFr.JaysonDavid,the CYMDelegate.

Fr.GerryMartin,SDBgavethewelcomeremarks whereheremindedeveryoneofthereasonfor theexistenceofourschools DonBosco’sDamihi animas Helikewiseemphasizedthatforus, Salesians,weeducatebyevangelizingand evangelizebyeducatingwhilemakingsurethat ourschoolsbecomehomesthatwelcome, churchesthatevangelize,schoolsthatnourishthe mind,andplaygroundswherewemeetfriends.

Miracle leading to Bl. Artémides Zatti’s Canonization

Br.ObetNarvaez, SDBandhis biologicalbrother Renatowhoenjoys goodhealthafter survivingtwo strokes.

IntheconsistoryheldonAugust27ofthis year,PopeFrancisannouncedthatBl ArtémidesZattiistobecanonizedinRomeon October9alongwithnineothercandidates forSainthood.

ForsomebodytobecomeaSaint,amiracle, aneventthatcannotbeexplainedbylogicor naturalcauses,isoneoftherequirements. Onemiraclemustbedemonstratedtohave occurredasaresultoftheinfluenceofa candidateforsainthoodinorderforhimtobe referredtoas"blessed."

Theproceduretakesoffbyprayingtothe saintwho"intercedes"withGod,typicallyto healadisease.Thisisthenexaminedbya medicalpanelthathasbeenswornto secrecy.

ThemiraclethatpavedthewayforBl.Zatti’s canonizationtookplacein2016inSan Vicente,Sto.Tomas,Batangas,withthethen 64-year-oldRenatoNarvaez.OnAugust11,he feltsick.Hetriedtorest,hopingthatthe discomfortwouldsubside,buthestarted vomiting.Hisfamilymemberspersuadedhim tobebroughttothehospital.

RenatowasadmittedtotheDanielMercado MedicalCenterinTanauan,Batangas.Inthe emergencyroom,heunderwentvarious tests.Hisbloodpressureshotupto240/150. Thoughhisspeechwasnormal,hisfamily noticedthathehadlostsomeofhismemory. Forexample,whenaskedwhohiseldestson was,hesaidthatitwasGlenn,insteadof Allan.

Twodaysafterhisconfinement,hesuffered anotherstrokeattack.Theattending physician,Dr.LeaDeLasLlagasordered

asecondcomputerizedtomography(CT)

scansincethefirstCTscanhadalready revealedahemorrhagicstroke,whichisthe leakingorburstingofabloodvessel.The secondCTscanshowedthatRenato’sbrain wasswollenandhadabloodclot.Before noon,RenatowasbroughttotheIntensive CareUnit(ICU)andwassedatedwithan inducedcoma.

Thefamilyandrelativesmetwiththeteamof doctors.TheywereinformedthatRenato neededtoundergoabrainoperationbased ontheCTscanresults.Thestrokeaffectedhis capacitytospeakandeat.Dr.Asis Encarnacion,hisattendingsurgeon,asked thefamilytotaketherisk,yetfailedto mentionthechancesofsurvivaland recoveryaftertheoperation.Withthemoney involvedthatamountedtohalfamillion pesoswitha15-to-20dayrecoveryatthe ICU,thefamilydidnotimmediatelyagreeto theproposedproceduresincetherewasno guaranteeofacompleterecovery

Themaindecision-makerswereRenato’s wifeGloria,thechildren(includinghis daughter-in-lawMarivel),andRenato’s siblings.AsitwasRenato’slifeatstake,Pia andMarivelseparatelycalledBr.Obet Narvaez,aSalesianofDonBosco,Renato’s brotherwhowasinItalyatthattime.Piaand MarivelinformedBr Obetaboutthesituation ofhisbrotherandinquiredabouttheiruncle’s opinion.

Br.Obettookthefamily’ssidethatRenato shouldnotundergoanoperationduetothe reasonsmentionedabove Thefamilyhad alreadylosthopeatthispointsincemore thanadecadeago,threeofthefamily memberssuccumbedtostrokes.Br.Obet recalledthatashewastaskedwithremoving themedicaltubesfromthebodiesofthesaid familymembers hewouldsoonagaindoso, thistimeforhisbrotherRenato.Theydecided tohaveRenatobedischargedandspendhis remainingdaysathomewithhisfamily Musteringsomestrengthandwiththeresolve tohelppreparehisbrothertodieahappy death,heplannedtoreturntothePhilippines Ashewaspreparingtoflyhome,hebrought withhimhisbarong,anticipatinghisbrother’s burial,buthealsoclungtohisfaith.He instructedMarivel,Renato'sdaughter-in-law, topraytoBl.Zatti.Hetoldthemthathewould tellthemwhoZattiwasuponhisreturn.He alsoinstructedCristina,hisniece,toputa stampita(holypicture)ofBl Zattiontheback ofRenato'shand.

Whenhearrived,hewentstraighttothe hospital Afterconsultingwiththefamilyofhis brother,hesignedthewaivertodischargehis brotherfromthehospital.Onlytwotubes remained:thenasogastric(NGT)andthe oxygen.Therestofthemedicineswereset aside Thismovewascontrarytotheadvice oftheirdoctors.

WithnoimprovementinRenato’shealth,the familyandrelativeswerealreadypreparing themselvesforRenato’sapproachingend Oneofhissonshasalreadypurchaseda memoriallot.Backhome,theystarted cleaningtheirhouse.Thefrontdoorwas enlargedtofitRenato’swould-becasketin preparationforthewakeintheirhome.

At8PMonAugust21,Renatofinallyarrived home HeonlyreliedonoxygenandNGT A priestcametotheirhousetoadministerthe AnointingoftheSickataround10AM.At11PM, hewasmumblingsomewords.

Thefamilyandrelativesgatheredwereall crying.Br.Obetledeveryonetorecitethe prayerstocommendhisdyingbrothertoa peacefuldeath,invokingtheassistanceofBl.

Beingthesacristanoftheircommunity chapel,Br ObetrecalledprayingtoBl Zatti lessthanayearbeforeRenato’sillnesstook place.OnNovember12,2015,theeveoftheBl. Zatti’sfeastday.

LookingatZatti’sportrait,hechallengedthe Blessedandnudgedhimtoperforma miraclesothathecouldalreadybea canonizedsaint.Manysickpeople,notonlyin Italybutinthewholeworld,awaitthis miracle.

BeforereturningtoRome,theneighbors suggestedBr Obetthatwhathappenedto Renatowasnothinglessthanamiracleand thatthisneededtobereportedtotheChurch authorities.Br.Obetrememberedthat incidentinhiscommunitychapelwherehe challengedBl.Zatti,anditdawnedonhim thatitmusthavebeenthemiracleheprayed for.

Whenhehadthechance,Br.ObettoldFr. FrancescoCereda,SDB,formerVicarofthe RectorMajor,whowasdoinghiscanonical visitationtothecommunityofBr.Obetofthe incident Fr CeredathencalledFr Pierluigi Cameroni,PostulatorGeneralofthe SalesiansofDonBosco,toinvestigatethe miracle.AsPostulatorGeneral,hetakescare ofthebeatificationandcanonization promotedbytheCongregation.

OnApril9,2022,PopeFrancis,throughHis EminenceCardinalMarcelloSemeraro, PrefectoftheVaticanCongregationforthe CausesofSaints,promulgatedthedecree concerningthemiracleattributedtothe intercessionofBlessedArtemideZatti.
