The K to 12 Basic Education Program aims to produce Filipino graduates who are equipped with 21st Century Skills that will not just sufficiently prepare them for higher education, but will offer them a finer blueprint for life.
Filipino Graduates are envisioned to:
▶ Possess sufficient mastery of basic competencies (e.g., literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, etc.) to develop themselves to the fullest;
▶ Be emotionally developed and competent to live a meaningful life;
▶ Be socially aware, proactive, and involved in public and civic affairs, and contribute to the development of a progressive, just, and humane society;
▶ Be adequately prepared for the world of work or entrepreneurship or higher education;
▶ Be legally employable; and
▶ Be globally competitive.
21ST CENTURY SKILLS
SalesianaBooks goes hand-in-hand with the Department of Education in achieving the K to 12 Vision
In addition, they are characterized as graduates who:
▶ Possess a healthy mind and body;
▶ Have solid moral and spiritual grounding;
▶ Appreciate and care for humanity, the world, and the environment; and
▶ Are proud to be Filipinos.
SalesianaBooks on Classroom Assessment
SalesianaBooks believes that assessment should:
▶ Provide constructive inputs in improving the performance of the students;
▶ Help students achieve mastery of the lessons;
▶ Measure objectively the degree of proficiency or mastery of the competencies discussed in the Student Textbook;
▶ Check if the formative assessments in the Student Textbooks are reliable; and
▶ Predict the students’ performance in an independent summative test.
SalesianaBooks sees assessment as a continuous process students must go through from the time they enter formal schooling. It is integral to the entire curriculum development because it gives meaning to what has been accomplished with the curriculum framework.
SalesianaBooks ensures that its assessment tools reflect these same standards and measure the same concepts and skills. Thus, these tools should be balanced and relevant.
SalesianaBooks considers the Student Textbooks and the TLET as its final outputs and the assessment tools as a means of measuring to a certain degree the effectiveness, validity, and reliability of the Student Textbooks.
SalesianaBooks Assessment Guide
Steered by the Department of Education Order 8 s.2015 and several classroom assessment models, the SalesianaBooks Assessment Guide intends to measure the students’ varying abilities and learning potentials to holistically develop 21st Century Skills.
SalesianaBooks Assessment Guide is added to our Teacher’s Manuals to properly align the suggested type of assessment with the textbook content and prescribed DepEd Learning Competencies.
SalesianaBooks Teacher's Manuals use this format to facilitate the content of each unit and align it with the prescribed learning competencies. An additional column suggests activities for both summative and formative tasks to further enrich the competencies presented in each lesson.
Although formative and summative assessment tools are incorporated in the textbook, the need for a more comprehensive assessment tool becomes more evident as a way for teachers to measure and validate the effectiveness of the instructional design used in the textbooks and the degree of usefulness of the TLET in enhancing the teaching and learning process.

Dear Young Christian Disciple,
You have in your hands a very good and important book. It will help you become a better person because it will bring you closer to Christ as His young disciple. It is entitled Kenosis. Do you know what this word means? It is the Greek word for self-emptying. Empty means there is nothing left. Christ asks us to empty ourselves by giving everything in us to Him. This will make us selfless. This will make us humble.
We need selflessness and humility in order to help our country. In 2021, we celebrated 500 years of the Christian Faith in the Philippines. Our nation has a long way to go in order to become a people of Christian disciples. We still see much selfishness and pride around us. We can help our country by starting with ourselves. We should try to really empty ourselves, like the Lord Jesus.
The three books in the Preschool Series will make you cherish God’s gifts of self, family, neighbors, the Church, and the world. They will help you grow in your relationship with God the Father, with Jesus Christ Our Lord and Brother, with the Holy Spirit the Consoler, and with Mary the Mother of God and our Mother too.
May you enjoy these books as you enjoy becoming a better Young Christian Disciple.
Yours in Jesus,

They highlight our membership in a community of friends, in a community of our fellow countrymen, in a community of our fellow Christian believers, in a community of our fellow human beings. Our membership in community happens especially through the celebration of the Seven Sacraments. We enhance this membership by our fidelity to the Commandments of God and by doing our duties in the community.
May Mary our Mother, help you in your efforts to become a good member of the community of friends, of the community of the Philippine society, of the community of the Church, and of the community of the world. May you enjoy these books as you enjoy becoming a better Young Christian Disciple.

It is entitled Kenosis. This word is taken from the Greek text of the Letter of the Apostle Paul to the Philippians. It is the Greek word for 'selfemptying'. Empty means there is nothing left. The Lord Jesus emptied Himself of His divinity when He became a human person like us. He further emptied Himself even of His human dignity when He sacrificed His life on the cross. All this He did for our salvation and eternal happiness. Christ asks us to empty ourselves by giving everything in us to Him. This will make us selfless. This will make us humble.

We should try to really empty ourselves, like the Lord Jesus.
The four books in the Junior High School Series will make you cherish the roots of your Christian Faith, its core values, and its refreshing demands. In Grade 7, you will be led through a reflection on the Old Testament and on its fulfillment in the Lord Jesus. In Grade 8, you will be guided in your meditation on the New Testament and on the fullness of Divine Revelation in Christ. In Grade 9, you will be assisted to understand the truths of what we believe in as a community of Christian believers. In Grade 10, you will be helped to grasp the moral demands of our Christian faith.
The two oldest Christian images in the Philippines are the Santo Niño of Cebu and the Marian statue of Nuestra Señora de Guia in Ermita, Manila. May the Child Jesus make your life center around Him. May Mary our Mother, the Help of Christians, help you in your efforts to become a joyful and better Young Christian Disciple.

TEXTBOOK SERIES DESCRIPTION
Areté: Values for Everyday Living is a series of Values Education books from Kinder to Grade Six. It is carefully designed to help the children acquire the fundamental values in life. It aims to make the learners appreciate themselves as special people with many abilities and talents. Moreover, it helps them to become aware of their relationship with their family, with others, and with God. Values are standards for determining what is right and wrong and what is proper and improper. Values Education is a joint responsibility of the home, school, and society. All should share in the molding of children to become better persons. The structured learning experiences in the series is presented in such a way that the learners themselves discover what they value and apply these values in the choices and decisions they make in life. If values are indeed caught, the learners are thus guided to catch the values that come from the learning experiences which they will process with the teacher. The books contain attractively illustrated stories and attributes relevant to the learners’ life experiences. The lessons also provide the learners with opportunities to learn and practice authentically human values.

PAKIKISANGKOT.

Elementary mathematics is a fantastic opportunity to learn the foundational concepts and develop the habits of mind and love for mathematics at a young age.
Math for All is a series designed for hands-on and interactive learning of Grades 1 to 6 mathematics. It is guided by the principle that all pupils can enjoy and learn mathematics.
Math for All presents concepts using the concrete-toabstract approach. It integrates action songs, fingerplay, rhymes, art projects, games, reflections, and outdoor activities in the lessons to engage and excite all learners. The series emphasizes not only a hands-on approach, like working or experiencing but also a thinking approach, like creative problem solving and reflecting. It contains non-routine questions and investigations to develop the learners' higher-order thinking skills and encourage them to collaborate and share their ideas. Likewise, it includes enrichment lessons for more advanced learners.
TEACHER’S MANUAL
A detailed lesson plan which shows the Lesson Title, Objectives, Learning Content, and Learning Experiences. Pages from the textbooks are also shown to guide the teachers to what is being taught or illustrated. TEXTBOOK SERIES DESCRIPTION
Children of early age need to understand the basic process skills as an integral part in studying Science. Observing, comparing, and classifying are some of these skills that need to be first developed. Moreover, children need to have an opportunity to ask and answer questions, do simple observations, and solve problems.
The Amazing World of Science (Preschool) has been developed based on this principle. The lessons presented in this series follow the scope prescribed in the K to 12 curriculum by the Department of Education.
The theme is organized around oneself, one’s family, school, and community. These correspond to each unit title in the textbook.
TEACHER’S MANUAL
The series comes with a Teacher’s Manual that will help the teachers in the preparation for the lessons. It contains detailed lesson plans and the Answer Keys to the exercises.

TEXTBOOK SERIES DESCRIPTION
Science Vistas 2018 Updated Edition is a Junior High School textbook series from Grades 7 to 10 written specifically to simply the complex nature of Science.
Science is really a way of looking at the natural world. After learning the ways of science, you can see things differently. We can enjoy sunrise and sunsets because the earth rotates. Science makes us understand nature. Clouds are white and fluffy, and they are made of water droplets from cooled water vapor. Echoes are interesting but echoes take time to be heard because sound has its own speed. The experiences, the sights, the vistas nature presents to us take a new significance. Science enables us look at nature in a more enlightened manner.
Science Vistas hopes to help students develop a way of looking at the natural world. Things and events in nature are truly marvelous in themselves. Very often, we are even more amazed when we come to understand the intricacies and workings of nature. We realize that the natural world is truly the handiwork of an intelligent Divine Creator and the created natural world truly proclaims His glory.
It is also aligned with the 2016 Science Curriculum set by the Department of Education and ensures the prescribed content standards are followed accordingly using the spiral progression approach.

SERIES DESCRIPTION
Colors and Shapes, a series of art books from Nursery to Grade Six, is a revision of ABC of Self-expression. It is purposely written to define and redefine the artistic potentials of the learners. It is a spark that will enkindle their artistic potentials and their language and literacy.
The children do not only express their creative potentials through paper but also express their creative potentials through dialogue. The series is a curriculum of fun-filled learning opportunities to develop their artistic knowledge in the use of the art materials. It also aims to develop their cognitive expression through language and communication. The children dialogue with us about their masterpiece and we document these communicative expressions. It makes sense that children like to explore art by talking about it. Documenting what they communicate about their art gives us a complete package of their expression.
Each book contains lessons that integrate visual arts with other disciplines. Moreover, each book presents a finished artwork as a model for the learners to concretely describe the activities. Each curriculum has information incorporated with other subject areas such as Math and Science but the primary objective is the value of integrating love for the arts, patience, and open-ended communication with the teachers through dialogue and documentation. A few have small-group experiences and additional learning activities designed to connect the broad area of child development and the specific goals for the children.
Each book expresses art from the eyes and the mouth of babes. From the simplicity of their early life to their young adulthood, you will hold a book that is a document of life.

TEXTBOOK SERIES DESCRIPTION
Writing for Active Learners is concerned with developing competence in writing. It teaches the basics of handwriting — from drawing simple lines to forming letters, numbers, words, and sentences. This Preschool series not only enhances the children’s motor coordination but it also, through various challenging exercises, provides for the development of their auditory and visual discrimination, reading, speaking, and critical thinking skills. Its lessons contain ample activities that encourage the preschoolers to write legibly and neatly. Great effort is taken to give them enjoyable, exciting, and successful writing experiences. Moreover, attractive graphics are used to arouse the interest of the learners as well as to reinforce the concepts being taught. Most importantly, in the hope of molding good and functional citizens, positive values are incorporated in the lessons.

Lesson 1 Entrepreneurs
• An Entrepreneur
• Different Roles You Must Perform as a Sole Proprietor
• The Role of Entrepreneurs in the Society
• Qualities of an Entrepreneur
• Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies (PEC)
• PECS Self-Rating Questionnaire
• Strength and Weaknesses
Lesson 2 Environment And Market
• The Environment
• The Market
• Business Plan or Idea
• SWOT Analysis
These two components of the Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) are present in all areas under the Technology and Livelihood Education of the Department of Education K to 12 Program. That being the case, a separate book will be ideal in order to avoid repetition.
The general objective of this book is to merely open a window to the world of entrepreneurship.
The first lesson identifies the different roles of an entrepreneur and the attributes one should have to be a successful practitioner. It will include a set of questions to answer and to compare in order to gauge if one has what it takes to be an entrepreneur.
The second lesson defines and differentiates environment from market. It will briefly discuss SWOT analysis and steps on how to conduct one in order to develop business ideas.
Each lesson will start with activity to engage the students before the discussion of key concepts or ideas. This will be followed by a series of short questions and/or relevant activity to measure students’ learnings.
92
Entrepreneurship is a learning area in the Senior High School, which will require longer hours of discussion involving ideas that are more intricate.
We hope that you can use whatever small ideas you have acquired from this booklet as a guide as you explore the different areas in your Technology and Livelihood Education class to identify which area complements your Personal Entrepreneurial Competencies the most.

TEXTBOOK
SERIES DESCRIPTION
Ethics deals primarily with the study of morality, i.e. discerning what is right or wrong with people’s decisions and actions. Business ethics deals with the application of ethics in the business environment. The realm of business does not have a moral code that is different or apart from what govern life and society. The same standards for what is right and wrong should be upheld. This book, Business Ethics, introduces the Senior High School student to the building blocks of business and business ethics. The lessons include the different definitions and views on ethics based on classical philosophy and virtue ethics, belief systems, and Filipino values. The book has a section on the social responsibility of entrepreneurs to employees and other stakeholders, with a brief and basic commentary on some prevailing management theories. Profit motive and an alternative to profit maximization are also tackled.
A whole chapter is also devoted to the nature, aims, and positive impact of social entrepreneurship. Given its strong social mission, particularly environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship shows promise in helping address the world’s most urgent problems.

SERIES DESCRIPTION
Our objective in writing this book is to make Applied Economics understandable, applicable, and enjoyable for Senior High School students, without overly simplifying the issues. Economic issues and policies are rarely black-andwhite or good-and-bad. Rather, most economic issues and policies have both advantages and disadvantages, which may favor some sectors of the society over others. In other word, they often involve trade-offs that become points of contention and debate.
Chapter 1 introduces Economics as a social science and as an applied science. It outlines some of the basic economic problems of the country and how Applied Economics can be used to solve them. Chapter 2 reviews the tools of Applied Economics which will be used to understand the economy. Chapter 3 is the core of the text, where the tools are applied to analyze. It also discusses the various contemporary economic issues facing the Filipino entrepreneur. Chapter 4 presents the tools and techniques for the analysis of a company, industry, and environment which will help students identify business opportunities. Chapter 5 shows how to conduct a socioeconomic impact study of a business on its stakeholders.
This uses a conceptual approach, that emphasizes an intuitive understanding of the topics, while minimizing Mathematical equations and formulas.

Threskeía is a Greek word which means “religion.” This book aims to introduce to our young readers and fellow pilgrims, the major religions of the world. Undeniably, religion has immense power over the human person. The religious beliefs of human persons and the praxis of faith have significantly changed — and continues to shape — our society and the world.
In the course of the study of world religions, we invite the readers to keep an open mind and an understanding heart. While we are all encouraged to be steadfast in our beliefs and be faithful to our own religion, we are also called to learn the religious beliefs of other people. This is to foster greater harmony and establish lasting peace among our fellowmen.

TEXTBOOK SERIES DESCRIPTION
Finding the “I” in Me is a journey inwards seeking a clearer vision and deeper appreciation of one’s self. It is a search for the real me in relation to the world, to others, and to God. As an Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person, it is an initiation to the process of critical reflection on the nature and dynamics of human personhood. Inasmuch as it is a philosophical enterprise, it raises many deep, thought-provoking, and at times, even disturbing questions. But it certainly leads to the discovery of answers, especially concerning our nature, dignity, beauty, and responsibility as human persons.

SERIES DESCRIPTION
Entrepreneurship has generated considerable excitement and interest for various reasons. It promotes job generation and distribution of wealth as a solution to poverty.
It creates an opening for innovation in products, services, and processes. It heightens awareness of and the spawning of opportunities for needs-means matches. For the youth, it is a promising pathway for channeling curiosity, exploring interest, and developing nascent skills in business.
This book tackles some themes which are staple to the discussion of entrepreneurship, such as global and local development, entrepreneurship in the Philippines and among the youth, entrepreneurship models, the business enterprise, and the essential management functions of production, marketing, finance, and human resources. However, the author also chose to emphasize two main features: one aspect is the entrepreneur’s personality, particularly characteristics, traits, and skills. She devoted a considerable number of pages on the identification, assessment, and possible acquisition of entrepreneurial traits and skills since she believe that entrepreneurs are not just born, but can also be nurtured and developed.
The other topic focused on is social entrepreneurship, which has steadily grown in recent decades. By underscoring social entrepreneurship and providing the case study on Gawad Kalinga, it hopes to open the eyes of the youth to the possibility of being “change-makers“ (i.e., entrepreneurs who can aspire to address a social need or solve a pressing social problem while at the same time, deploy the tools of commercial entrepreneurship.)
