THE MANAGER DARREN MOORE

Good evening, I’d like to welcome Brian Barry-Murphy as well as the fans, players and staff of Rochdale. Brian has and is continuing to do a fabulous job at Rochdale and I like the way he structures his team. We had a close game at their place back in August and I’m sure today will also be a strongly contested match.

I was really pleased with the allround performance on Tuesday night, it was a perfect reaction to last Saturday’s game. We had to find our way into the game, not least because of the conditions, but we worked hard and showed some excellent decision-making to run out comfortable winners in the end.

We spoke before the game about managing the conditions, but the players did their jobs really well. It was a perfect response to the previous game where we didn’t feel we had the right performance which led to us not getting the result. We need to maintain those standards today and find consistency to our game and performances.

Jacob and Fejiri got the goals on Tuesday night, showing the different dynamic they can bring to us. We are trying to get them, as well as our other new signings Devante and Jason, integrated into the squad quickly and ready to go. It takes time, but with games coming thick and fast they will all have a key part to play as the season progresses.

We had to be patient in the transfer window, we stuck by our guns and got the players in we wanted from the start. I was pleased when we got through the window so I can now focus solely on the team - and the press will have to find something else to ask me!

The board gave me the backing we needed to strengthen, working with our chief executive Gavin and Adam Henshall. They were both sat at the Keepmoat Stadium until late on transfer deadline day ensuring we got our business done, along with Mary Lally and Kirsty Cavanagh as well as Luke and Hayley from our media team - fans don’t always see the hours put in by these people but it really is a team game on and off the pitch and everyone at the club plays their part.

Enjoy the game.
