The Environment & Situational Awareness The Environment undoubtedly stands as one of the most advanced UAV sectors to date. With endless possibilities for UAV applications, including data, mapping and surveillance, the environment sector has turned UAV’s into a must-have technology; Drawing particular attention to the possibilities for photography, including thermal imaging and infrared applications, data collection and analysis, sensor technology and 3D mapping. We could further expand upon the endless opportunities for UAV’s within the sector, including discussion of disaster relief, animal conservation and advanced weather analysis. Photography and Cinematography Remotely sensed data collection and photography Thermal imaging Infrared Applications Thermography — inspection of solar systems, wind turbines, power lines using thermal imaging cameras. Data Collection and Analysis Increased data collection quality from previously hard to reach locations Selecting the correct sensors for your data type: lightweight sensors, multi-sensor platforms. Secure communication systems UAS data vs. manually acquired data Possibilities for real-time data

UAVs and Public Protection • Law enforcement applications — traffic monitoring, aiding hostage situations, bomb threats, tracking a fleeing criminal, accident investigations • Intelligence Gathering - aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, crowd monitoring and control • Increasing Safety – monitoring a wider area, collecting evidence and monitoring events from a distance, UAVs in conjunction with traditional policing Advantages - Cost effective, quickly deployable, extra angle of surveillance • Search and Rescue • Minimizing the time taken to find victims • Surveying and mapping complex terrain • Rescue point marking • Infrared sensor capabilities to detect a person’s heat signature

Disaster Management • Disaster response/relief • Assessing after natural disasters, where to target emergency response, etc • Wildfires – UAV’S to monitor wildfires and enable emergency crews to determine sources of fires and best points to target to extinguish. • Flood monitoring • UAV’s advancing scientific research without risking human life

Surveillance • Oil and Gas - oil spill detection, decommissioning projects, pipeline surveillance, rig security, flare stack inspection, monitoring large oil fields • Mining - gas monitoring, hazardous site mapping, inspections of isolated and dangerous sites. • Onshore and offshore applications • Safe operation on construction sites, wind farms, remote working power stations, & chemical plants.

Financial Viability • UAV’s vs. traditional pipeline surveillance techniques • Implementing a cost-effective maintenance strategy • De-risk projects Integrating UAV’s into your business model • Turning dangerous operations in to low risk tasks • Speed advantages • Minimizing disruption Technological Advances • Digital terrain modelling • Volumetric analysis • Accurate topographic data • High resolution orthophotography • Close visual and thermal imaging
