In the past few years, over $25 million has been invested to enhance the Lutsen experience. New snowmaking and grooming equipment, the eight-passenger Summit Express gondola and the high-speed, six-person Caribou Chair and Raptor Express enhance the mountain experience.
Updated chalets, streetscaping and pedestrian-friendly courtyards are all finishing touches that reflect the experience. Plans of continued expansion and renovation ensure that Lutsen Mountains is staying ahead of the latest in mountain resort trends.
The Lutsen Mountains experience isn’t just about skiing and snowboarding. In fact, the mountain is open yearround with activities for the whole family. The Summit Express gondola is the most popular sightseeing adventure, whisking your group to the top of the mountain and one of the most stunning views on the North Shore. Gather to enjoy lunch with a view or venture over to one of several incredible lookouts. In the summer, the Alpine Slide provides a thrilling ride down the mountain that will put a smile on everyone’s face. And at the base of the mountain, Papa Charlie’s Tavern has become known as one of the best music venues in Minnesota, and the adjacent Legends Restaurant offers casual dining with outstanding views. Keep Cook County
Wild For Generations
Cook County is so much more than a vast natural wonderland. It’s a collection of communities and people—both residents and visitors—who value the fine balance of wild space and sustainably curated development.
Leave No Trace
As you plan a visit, consider adopting a Leave No Trace mentality that enables you to use wild spaces ethically and sustainably.
By planning ahead to minimize your impact, being respectful of wildlife and other visitors, being responsible and safe with campfires and disposing of waste properly, you’ll be doing your part to protect the environment and preserve the unique beauty and majesty of Cook County.
Travel Sustainably
Cook County covers over 3,000 square miles of pristine wilderness, shoreline and developed communities. It’s safe to assume that all visitors will be driving from place to place while they’re here, but that’s certainly not the only way to travel around our communities. Try exploring our business districts on foot as much as possible.
Cyclists come to enjoy over 2,000 miles of potential rides. From the paved Gitchi-Gami State Trail, endless gravel roads and white-knuckle singletrack, the opportunities are endless.
During winter, snow blankets the entire region, averaging over 120” each year. Cook County is home to over 400 km of incredible cross country ski trails, making experiencing our wilderness an epic adventure.
