“Sturgis Rally 2022”

Well, the 82nd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is in the books and the sleepy little town in the Black Hills has returned to its normal state of being. Just a couple days ago the sound of tens of thousands of scooters could be heard everywhere within 50 miles but today there are only a few scooters that can be heard putting around the area. All of the barriers on Main Street have been removed and cars are once again allowed to travel and park on it. The vendor tents and the millions of overpriced rally items have been packed up and trucked away…

It was a smaller rally again this year but it was still a huge event that drew hundreds of thousands of bikers from all over the world. I had the pleasure of meeting a lot of old friends from around the country and I made several new ones too. I didn’t get a chance to do much riding because I had a couple issues with Bullwinkle and I was busy with ministry nearly everyday but the riding I did get to do was a lot of fun and much needed.

If you were to ride into Sturgis, Hill City, Keystone or any of the other little towns in the Black Hills today you would never believe that less than 3 days ago they were the site of one of the biggest biker parties in the world. Every bar and saloon in every little town was full of bikers living out their passion for riding and hanging with their brothers and sisters. The curbs on both sides of the street were lined with every kind of scooter imaginable. Some of the scooters are works of art created in the mind of its owner and expressed in steel and paint. Some of the other scooters parked at the curb make you wonder how they ever made it to rally but they did make it and that makes them as much of a piece of art as any scooter they’re parked next to, at least in my opinion it does.

I’ve been to virtually every major scooter rally in the country and by far the Black Hills Rally is my favorite and I look forward to coming back every year. Any biker who has never been to this rally is missing out on the experience of a lifetime. There are things to do and see out here that you will never see anywhere else and much of them are things the whole family can enjoy. This rally has everything from museums to zip lines and helicopter rides around Mt. Rushmore and the Crazyhorse Monument. There are wineries and mountain arts to enjoy and a million other places and events like concerts and old west shootouts on the streets of Deadwood. If you have always wanted to experience The Black Hills Rally but it just never happened I encourage you to make a plan to get here and work towards that goal until you wake up one day and find yourself riding down Main Street with tens of thousands of your brothers and sisters…

If you can dream it you can do it!
