The Importance of Including Ballet in your Child’s Dance Program: All dance forms have ballet technique as their base. Children and Teens 6 – 17 years old All Classes Full Term | September – June

The Importance of Taking More Than One Class: Students who wish to intensify their training should take more than one class (where available) in their chosen style. Students taking more than one class per week, including one of each of the different dance styles, will enjoy crossover benefits. The posture, strength and body awareness developed in 8 all ages all levels dance

ballet will enhance the development of jazz technique. The musicality and body coordination developed in tap will reinforce the work in jazz discipline, and the flexibility developed in jazz will assist in ballet. All dance study will help musical theatre, and musical theatre will enable the dancer to find a voice for movement. Lyrical and hip hop will further develop the dancer’s style and versatility.

POINTE

LYRICAL

Levels 5A – 8, Girls

Levels 5B – 8, Boys & Girls

A unique and specialized technique, pointe work allows female students to explore this extension of ballet. Pointe work demands a specific physical strength and flexibility in the structure of the student’s foot, as well as overall strength in ballet technique. This class is available to students in Ballet Level 5A or higher by invitation from our teaching staff. Students enrolled in any level of Pointe class must take two additional ballet technique classes per week with the RWB School. Registration for pointe classes is upon discretion of the RWB School Artistic faculty.

Lyrical is a style of jazz that explores selfexpression using ballet, jazz and modern technique. Danced to modern music, this class will focus on smooth movement techniques that emphasize the lyrics. To register for this class students must be attending a minimum of one jazz class and one ballet class per week.

TAP 6 – 17 Year Old Boys & Girls Age as of December 31, 2013 Tap dancing is one of the most popular and stylish dance forms of all time. It’s a fun way to exercise and is terrific for developing coordination, rhythm and concentration. From its beginning in the early 1900s, tap has evolved from a basic form of communication to the tap technique we know today. Today’s tap vocabulary has developed from vaudeville, soft shoe, clogging and jazz tap style.

MUSICAL THEATRE 8 – 17 Year Old Boys & Girls Age as of December 31, 2013 Musical Theatre introduces students to a combination of theatre skills. Students learn basic acting skills and develop their vocal abilities – both in combination with dance elements. Students round out their performance skills by rehearsing and performing excerpts from musicals. It is strongly recommended that musical theatre students also register for a ballet, jazz or tap class in addition to their musical theatre class.

HIP HOP 8 – 17 Year Old Boys & Girls Age as of December 31, 2013 Hip hop is a high energy street dance class designed to challenge students’ versatility. Dancers participate in fitness exercises, hip hop technique and choreography combinations.
