Cable supporting systems maintaining functionality in fire STANDARD CONSTRUCTIONS
NON-STANDARD CONSTRUCTIONS
The company KOPOS KOLÍN a.s. (joint-stock company) produces fire resistant systems conforming to the respective standards and regulations. They include cable trays JUPITER KZ of 1.5 mm thickness sheet steel and cable ladders KL with cross-pieces with the distance of 150 mm. page: 4-33
In its effort to oblige its customers in terms of pricing, KOPOS Kolín a.s. offers reasonably priced fire resistant systems. It is possible to reduce the price of fire resistant routes using a metal sheet of a thickness less than the one determined by the standard and applying a more sophisticated solution of the cable tray shape and the system of anchoring. The standard allows testing these routes which are then identified as not standardized (non standard).
standard routes:
cable trays cable ladders independent cable clamps
cable trays: - maximum allowable width 300 mm (perforation percentage 15 ± 5 %) - sidewall height 60 mm - thickness of metal sheet 1.5 mm - weight of cables max. 10 kg/m - distance of supports 1 200 mm cable ladders: - maximum width 400 mm - sidewall height 60 mm - thickness of metal sheet 1.5 mm - weight of cables max. 20 kg/m - ladder cross-pieces at a distance of 150 mm - distance of supports max. 1200 mm
The non standard routes include routes created by MARS and JUPITER cable trays with integrated couplings with the metal sheet thickness of 1.25 mm, and routes of cable ladders with the distance of cross-pieces 300 mm; further there are supporting metal trunkings and routes created by steel pipes. page: 34-81 not standardized routes:
trays with integrated couplings with metal sheet thickness of 1.25 mm cable ladders with the distance of cross-pieces of 300 mm supporting trunkings steel pipes
The system includes systems that have been tested in their entirety.
Cable ladder and tray routes are not provided with covers. independent cable clamps - distance 300 mm Installed cable requirements Cables with proven maintenance of operability in fire from the manufacturer with whom the particular line was tested must be used in the systems.
Cables with proven maintenance of operability in fire from any manufacturer may be used in the systems. This characteristic is convenient for both the realization of the system and when extending systems in the course of operation. It does not limit the investors of implementation companies by having to purchase cables from a particular manufacturer.
Tests and classification KOPOS cable supporting system has complied with the tests according to the achieved time of maintained operability as follows: ZP 27/2008 DIN 4102 part 12 and STN 92 0205 with action according to the standardized time temperature curve and is classified in terms of fire resistance as follows: P 120-R by ZP 27/2008 P 90-R by ZP 27/2008 P 60-R by ZP 27/2008 P30-R by ZP 27/2008 E 90 by DIN 4102 part 12 E 90 by DIN 4102 part 12 E 60 by DIN 4102 part 12 E 30 by DIN 4102 part 12 PS 90 by STN 92 0205 PS 90 by STN 92 0205 PS 60 by STN 92 0205 PS 30 by STN 92 0205 The data on resistance of the system are stated for particular assemblies and are defined in the cables chart. Temperature scenarios The results of tests obtained during testing of cable routes at increased temperature also apply to cable routes stressed by low temperatures (e.g. if the cable line is classified by operability class P, the classification also applies to operability class PH). Therefore, the systems we produce may be used even for resistance class PH 120, PH 90, PH 60 and PH 30 while observing other conditions. Surface finish Systems may be supplied with various surface finishes (coating, galvanizing) whereas the surface finish does not affect the determined maintained time of operability in fire. Special environment: subway and tunnels Part of the cable supporting system KOPOS conformed to the requirements of the test carried out in accordance with ZP 27/2008 with acting in accordance with the curve with the constant temperature of 750°C for the period of 120 minutes with inclination of 16 minutes and its fire resistance classification is as follows: ZP 27/2008 750°C/120/136-R. The system includes: cable trays JUPITER, cable ladders, steel pipes and other material In the case of interest in technical specification of systems for Prague subway, please turn to our business representatives. The contact details are available at www.kopos.com. This catalogue describes in detail installation of individual routes, use of accessories, installation elements, and application of power and data cables resistant to fire. For proper mounting KOPOS KOLÍN a.s., as a producer, recommends to abide by the instructions for installation included in the catalogue. The producer shall not be liable for any damages caused by fire in case of non-observance of the installation instructions.

The base of the supporting construction is the SPL ceiling profile anchored by the anchors KPO 10. The system includes the heavy holder DTBS mounted using two bolts S 10X40, 2 pieces of nuts M 10, and 2 pieces of washers PD 10 to the ceiling profile. The heavy bracket must be fixed using threaded rod ZT 10 and at the same time the assembly accessory VS 41X16 (KPOZ 10) in the ceiling construction to secure so that the line conforms to the preconditions of fire resistance. For installation of 3 successive routes it is necessary to use the threaded rod ZT 12, nuts M 12 and MZ 12, and the washer PD 12. The distance between the individual ceiling profiles must be max. 1200 mm. The cable tray KZ is fixed to the bracket DTBS using screws NSM 6X10. This system allows hanging of not more than three routes of cable trays. The method of anchoring of a threaded rod using KPOZ anchor equals the use of VS 41X16 support part and is regarded as a standardized method of anchoring. The advantage of this system is possible dual-sided assembly of the bracket DTBS.

Cable ladders
T
system of cable ladders - vertical placement, ascending line
20
Description of the system:
KL
The cable ladder is fixed on the base material by means of KLSU clamps placed in the side of the ladder with the maximum span of 1200 mm using NSM 6X10 bolts. A washer needs to be placed under the head of the bolt and the nut. The actual installation to the base material is subsequently performed using KPO 8 anchors. The cable placed in the cable ladder must be mechanically fixed to every rung using PKC clamps. In the case that the length of an ascending cable line is longer than 3500 mm, it is necessary to create a relieving elbow or to use the KPS clamp cover (pg. 13).

The ascending line created by a cable ladder is in terms of standardization understood as a clamp of individual cables. Clamping of cables by individual clamps every 300 mm is understood as a standardized support structure. As the ascending line may be a part of a non-standardized support structure, it is always necessary to use cables from manufacturers who have been certified for installation on the non-standardized part of the cable line. The line on the transition to the ascending section must be anchored. Relieving elbow – instead of the relieving elbow, it is possible to use the KPS cable clamp cover (pg. 33); in terms of standardization this is an equivalent solution

Description of the system: KPS cable clamp cover is fixed on the base material (concrete, solid brickwork) and creates thermal protection of the clamps, which in that way may perform its mechanical function even in fire conditions. The cover is fixed using ZT 8 threaded rods, M 8 nuts and PVL 8 washers anchored using KPOZ 8 anchors (MS KPS kit) to the base material. If the cover is to perform safely its function, it must be installed on ascending routes consisting of cable ladders by max. 3.5 m.
ÂŁ 3 500 mm
Fix the cables to every rung using clamps. According to the pitch of holes in the clamp cover (KPS 160X400) drill holes in the wall and insert anchors in them. Mount threaded rods in the anchors. Mount the clamp cover and tighten it slightly over washers. Deposit one layer of insulation wool after another. Always carefully pack cable surroundings with pieces of insulation wool. Now tighten the nuts holding the cover tightly and cover the cable surroundings and edges of insulation wool carefully with the supplied cement.

Description of the system: The base of the supporting construction is created by clamps 6708-6716 (6716D) fixed on the base material using fire resistant bolts for concrete SB 6,3X35. These bolts are screwed into holes with diameter of 5 mm drilled before hand in the concrete. Then the required cable is threaded in the installed clamps. It is necessary to select the size of the clamps taking into account diameter of the installed cable. The maximum distance of installed clamps is 300 mm. The base material must conform to the conditions of maintaining operability in fire. It is possible to install only one cable of the corresponding diameter in one singlesided clamp. It is possible to install two cables of the corresponding diameter in one dual-sided clamp.

Relieving elbow – instead of the relieving elbow, it is possible to use the KPS cable clamp cover (pg. 33); in terms of standardization this is an equivalent solution. With regard to fire classification of the KPS cover, the classification of the line consisting of cable clamps is lowered to 60 minutes. Cables placed under the KPS cover must be fixed using PKC clamps (pg. 31) anchored to NP section parts (pg. 23). The supporting section part must be anchored using two KPO 8 anchors on its edges. maximum distance of anchors must be 250 mm. Therefore, it is necessary to use three KPO 8 anchors for fixing of NP 350 section part.
Two 6708 – 6712 type clamps may be installed under one SB 6,3X35 bolt and thus create a line for two cables. By using two clamps of various sizes under one screw, it is possible to create a line for cables with different diameters (see pg. 24). It is possible to use clamps also for an ascending line; the maximum length of the vertical line is 3500 mm. If longer routes are used, then it is necessary to create a lifting elbow. In the case of cables with larger cross-sections (diameter exceeding 14 mm) it is possible to use the line created using OMEGA clamps (pg. 14) – applies only to horizontal routes. Approved manufacturers of cables: For supporting cable constructions it is possible to use cables of any manufacturer with proven functionality during fire. tolerable radius of cable bending cable

Description of the system:
Technical parameters of routes:
The base of the supporting construction is formed by steel pipes of the 60xx attached in the row to the base material using Omega clamps. Clamps Omega type 52xx must be attached using bolts for concrete SB 6.3X35. These bolts are screwed into holes with diameter of 5 mm drilled before hand in the concrete. KPO 6 anchor may be used for fixing of clamps. Then, the fire resistant steel pipe is attached to the installed clamps. It is possible to pull a cable of a corresponding diameter through it. For mechanical protection of the cables it is possible to put edge protectors - the installation material offered by KOPOS - on the ends of the pipes.

Relieving elbow – instead of the relieving elbow, it is possible to use the KPS cable clamp cover (pg. 33); in terms of standardization this is an equivalent solution. With regard to fire classification of KPS cover, the classification of the line consisting of cable clamps is lowered to 60 minutes. Cables placed under the KPS cover must be fixed using PKC clamps (pg. 77) anchored to NP section parts (pg. 23). The supporting section part must be anchored using two KPO 8 anchors on its edges. The maximum distance of anchors must be 250 mm. Therefore, it is necessary to use three KPO 8 anchors for fixing of NP 350 section part.

cable supporting systems while maintaining the functionality during a fire The risk of fire can never be eliminated, even with the use of various regulations and measures. During a fire the electrical distribution is exposed to high load. Especially in gathering areas the delivery of electricity must be maintained as long as possible for selected electrical equipment in protected escape and intervention routes. Maintaining the delivery of electricity for a stipulated time is achieved using the cable support systems, which function during a fire. The fire resistant cable supporting system, manufactured in Kopos Kolín, fulfills the requirements given by the relevant standard and regulation.
During the designing of the fire resistant cable support systems (up to 1 kV), it is necessary to: - on the basis of the fire report: - know the level of the fire safety of the fire zone, which is determined on the basis of the calculation of the fire risk, the construction system of the building and the height of the building or the floor - characterize the fire resistance of the load bearing constructions inside the fire zone, which do not secure the stability of the building and which do not carry the fire separating structures nor do they form them - know the type of the protected escape line - design and secure the methods of the delivery of electricity from two sources that are independent of each other, serving for securing of fire prevention of the buildings (for example fire elevator, evacuation elevator, firewater boost pump, emergency lighting) so that during the outage of the delivery from one source the deliveries are fully secured from the second source for a period of the assumed function of the equipment - eliminate the effect of the surrounding installations on the cable supporting system - support the suitable construction of the support system according to the level of the necessary fire resistance - select the wires and cables securing the function and the control of the equipment used for the securing of fire prevention for the buildings and stipulate their placement; electrical equipment which does not serve for securing fire prevention of a building are evaluated with regards to fire prevention when a) the wires and cables are placed loose without further protection, b) the weight of the insulation of the wires and cables, eventually the flammable parts of the electrical distributions, exceeds 0.2 kg per m3 - elaborate a “Report about determining external effects” according to the ČSN 33 2000-3 commission wise. The members of the commission are the electrical engineer, the fire technician, the safety technician and the investor. Furthermore, according to the focus of the building there is also present the technology expert and specialists with electrical requirements, as for example air technician, heating technician etc. The members of the commission must also be specialists in the field for which the building is being built.
Testing the fire resistance of the cable supporting systems for integrated maintaining of functionality The fire resistance test is to verify the activity of the cable supporting system of the cable supporting system during a fire and to prove that essential life functions in thebuilding (fire elevators, evacuation elevator, firewater boost pump, emergency lighting, fire alarm, emergency exits…) remain maintained for the stipulated time. A uniform European standard for safety resistance and its testing does not yet exist. The German standard DIN 4102 section 12 is considered as a reference standard: Maintaining the functionality of the cable supporting systems. In the Czech Republic the testing of the fire resistance of the construction of the cable supporting systems is specified by the harmonized standard ČSN EN 1363. Based on this, in the Czech Republic there was created the test regulation ZP 27/2008, stipulating the methods and the conditions for the testing of the resistance of cable routes.
Identical elements of the test regulation ZP 27/2008 and the German standard DIN 4102 sec. 12: -
composition of test samples and norm constructions connection of electrical circuits possibility of partial compensation of placed cables by a steel weight dimensions of cable trays and cable ladders: cable trays: - maximum allowable width 300 mm (perforation percentage 15 ± 5 %) - sidewall height 60 mm - thickness of metal sheet 1.5 mm - weight of cables max. 10 kg/m - distance of supports 1 200 mm cable ladders: - maximum width 400 mm - sidewall height 60 mm - thickness of metal sheet 1.5 mm - weight of cables max. 20 kg/m - ladder cross-pieces at a distance of 150 mm - distance of supports max. 1200 mm
The certified constructions the design of which is consistent with the parameters of the standard are called standardized (standard). KOPOS Kolín produces fire resistant systems conforming to the above stated standards and the regulation. They include cable trays JUPITER KZ with metal sheets thick 1.5 mm and a cable tray with cross-pieces distant 150 mm. The certified constructions the design or dimensions of which are different from the above stated standard and regulation are called non-standardized (non-standard). KOPOS tries to accommodate the demands of its customers as for price and offers them fire-resistant systems for more favourable prices. It is possible to reduce the price of fire resistant routes using a metal sheet of a thickness smaller than the one determined by the standard, fewer supports etc. The standard allows testing of the routes which are then marked as not standardized (non-standard). The non standard routes include the routes created by MARS and JUPITER cable trays with integrated couplings with the metal sheet thickness of 1.25 mm, routes of cable ladders with the distance of cross-pieces 300 mm; further there are supporting metal trunkings, systems with cable catches, routes created by steel pipes, and fire resistant boxes. Cable system: includes power cables, insulated power cables, installation cables and wires for telecommunication and equipment for data processing, bus-bars, cable channels, paints, load bearing structures, brackets and clamps. Not standardized construction (non-standard): a certified construction deviating from the standard as for one or more specifications. It doesn't allow transferability of test results to cables of various manufacturers. Standardized construction (standard): the certified construction conforms to the standard in all aspects. It allows transferability of test results to cables of various manufacturers. The standard temperature time curve: the temperatures in relation to time must be maintained for the entire duration of the test according to the so-called “standard temperature time curve”. It is an internationally used temperature course according to the ČSN EN 1363 /formula T = 345 log (8t + 1) + 20, where T= average temperature in the oven in °C and t = time in minutes/, and also according to the DIN 4102-2 /formula ν - νo = 345 log (8t + 1), where ν = fire temperature in K, no = temperature of the testing sample at the beginning of the test in K, t = Time in minutes/. The temperature curve comes forth from the entire course of the fire temperatures. The beginning of the fire = fire occurrence phase. In a very short time there occurs the full unfolding of the fire = “flash-over”. The instance of the flash over and the unfolding of a full fire is displayed by the standard temperature time curve.

Constant-temperature curve with the launch according to the ZP 27/2008. Fire safety equipment and measures: the technical and organizational measures for the reduction of the theoretical intensity of an eventual fire, and for the reduction of the economic risk in the evaluated building or its part (for example the fire alarm, automatic stable fire extinguishing equipment, fire ventilation, constant supervision of fire prevention units). Fire safety of buildings: the capability of buildings to prevent, during a fire, the losses of lives or health of persons and losses of property; it is achieved by suitable urban classification of the building’s measures, its structural, area and material design, eventually fire safety equipment and measures. Fire risk of building or its part is determined by the character of the building, its function, technical and technological equipment, construction, area or urban design, fire safety measures etc. and it is expressed by the calculated fire load. Maintaining the functionality of the resistance of the electrical cable systems during fire conditions: during a fire, the thermal acting of the fire does not cause a short or outage of the electrical circuit in the cable system, for a time period determined ahead of time. Acts, decrees, standards The requirements for the characteristics of the cable support systems with integrated maintaining of functionality during a fire arise from the stipulated laws, regulations and standards. The issue of the safety of buildings in relation to the danger of persons during a fire is solved here by the Building Act by its general regulations together with the Law about fire protection. The regulations and government orders then specify and generally condition the technical requirements for the construction, fire protection and prevention. Technical standards in relation to the fire safety of persons specify the general technical accompanying procedures for the securing of the fire safety and resistance. Besides the technical design of constructions, they also address fire safety equipment and delivery of electrical energy. Test of the functionality of the resistance of the system during a fire: test of the support system with installed cables.

surface treatments and protection against corrosion Corrosion Corrosion is the undesired devaluation of material caused by chemical physically-chemical effects of the environment. These physically-chemical events result in partial or complete disturbance of the material. White rust White rust resembles a cosmetic effect of the coating but does not decrease the resistance against corrosion. It optically damages the zinc picture, but the silver coating and the shine of the freshly zinc coated material will cure and within several weeks it will transfer to a dim grey color. This is the result of the reaction between the zinc and air. That is why according to the standard ČSN EN ISO 1461 the occurrence of this phenomenon can not be the reason for a warranted claim.
zinc steel zinc
Cathodic protection Cathodic protection is a protective mechanism of the zinc layer, which relies on the capability of the transfer zinc ions onto the damaged part of the steel sheet metal. The acting of rainwater, condensation and other electrolytes causes the creation of a galvanic cell between two various metals. A voltage difference occurs here and a less noble metal (zinc) transitions as an anode into the solution, see the picture. That means that with regards to the normal potential the zinc acts as a consumed anode and therefore protects the basic material. This principle applies to the sheet metal thickness of 1.5 mm.
It is possible to protect the steel against corrosion by the following methods of surface treatments
ZNCR electrolytic galvanized products – Bichromatic galvanized – ČSN EN ISO 2081 , DIN 12 330 electrolytic galvanized according to DIN 50 961 with a layer of zinc 10 µm +/- 4 µm (supports for the wall, fastening material, bolts, washers, nuts …)
S
Pre-Galvanized – ČSN EN 10 327, ČSN EN 10 143 galvanized steel Sendzimir: while cold the hot-rolled steelbelt goes after preparation through a continuous bath with liquid zinc. Through this, a layer zinc arises which guarantees the increased corrosion protection. Depending on the product type the thickness of both zinc layers varies from 235 - 275 g/m2, which corresponds to 15 - 27 µm.
F
Hot Dip Galvanized – ČSN EN ISO 1461 The finished pieces made from bare (black) sheet metal are plunged in a melt-bath with liquid zinc, after pre-treatment, at a temperature of 450°C. After removal from the zinc bath a zinc/iron alloy layer system is formed on the bare (black) sheet metal, which is covered with a pure zinc layer. The thickness of the zinc-layer is 50-100 µm, depending on the material thickness.
GMT
non electrolytic plating The base of the DELTA surfacing includes Delta Tone 9000 materials. They are inorganic coats filled with zinc and aluminium micro-lamellas spread in a titanium binder. The method creates a cathodic protection coating the layer of which is 5-15 micrometer thick. This thickness of the layer provides better protection of metals than a thicker layer of zinc created by the zinc dipping method. The method conforms to the European Directive on recycling since it does not include any heavy metals and hexavalent chromium and it is also suitable for small parts. KOPOS KOLÍN supplies also bolts, nuts, couplings and other small connecting accessories with this surfacing and the company also carried out the salt fog test in accordance with ČSN EN ISO 9227 which proved that the coating was not damaged during the action of the salt fog for the period of 300 hours. The long-term temperature constancy is guaranteed up to 180 °C while the surfacing does not show any hydrogen fragility. Based on the above stated reasons we may fully recommend this method of surfacing as an alternative to the zinc dipping method.

Corrosion resistance of cable trays treated with powder paint A laboratory test has proven that galvanized cable trays painted with powder polyester that were tested in the salt spray for a period of 1 500 hours did not exhibit any signs of blisters or rusting through (the test ISO 6270 for galvanized steel treated with powder plastic prescribes the acting of water only for a period of 720 hours, meanwhile we tested the galvanized trays treated with powder polyester according to the more demanding test ISO 7253 for steel treated with powder plastic, which prescribes the acting of salt spray for a period of 1440 hours). The resistance, tested by us, of the galvanized tray treated with polyester coating also suits the environments with very high corrosive aggressiveness. The polyester coating remains undamaged after the acting of the corrosive effects of the environment, it has high adhesiveness and under it there remains the undamaged zinc coating of the steel core of the cable tray. Galvanized steel treated with powder plastic does not have coating depletion (galvanized steel always has depletion of the zinc coating, according to the environment see table 5 levels of corrosion aggressiveness. With lower financial expenses the painting by powder polyester will secure at least the same corrosion resistance values as Hot-dip galvanization.
