STADIUM FORM STUDY A4 Studio Location: Szombathely, Hungary Task: experiment to create different shapes for stadium This sport complex has two main different parts: the open football field, and the smaller indoor handball courts, gyms.

My ideas were focusing on the relation between the two parts, so that the mixed function of the complex would be obvious for first glance.

SZÉLLKAPU DESIGN COMPETITION A4 Studio Location: Budapest, Hungary Task: park design Teammate: Zsófia Hargitay In the hearth of Budapest a few old buildings were tore down in order to open a wind tunnel to help getting a better air circulation in the city. Only a few columns remained in the middle of the site. Our idea was to create a park in which the passages spiral into the middle point referring to the image of the wind, of a hurricane.

archicad model, artlantis render, photoshop post production With the five paths that are spinning together in the centre we created six different sections. A playground for kids, a lakeside to relax, a sunny hill for picnics, a shadowy “forest” area, a flowery inner circle of the waterfall, and an outdoor cinema. We wanted to emphasise the great role of water in the air circulation schema, that is why we decided to designed a shallow lake and a waterfall. The waterfall also works as a partition, to filter the noise and smell of the heavy traffic of the main street.

BUS STATION A4 Studio Location: Szentgotthárd, Hungary Task: design sheltered platform Szentgotthárd’s bus station is located right next to the train station, therefore it does not require a separated waiting room, only a small wind, and water protected area for each bus stop.

There are many bus stops lined along the platform. In order to avoid the look of a row of small boxes, I tried to design something more complex and create a connection between the sheltered bus stops. Since Szentgotthárd is at the countryside, I wanted to keep the design simple. I only created one element after the shape of a house, and used it in different positions.

Because of the different positions, the edges of the roof are not parallel, and the timbers of the roof create a nice curved surface. The roof of the bus stops continues all the way as a sunshade, only with more space between the logs. The sunshade creates a visual connection between the bus stops, creating a nice, organic and consistent shape.

SPORTS COMPLEX, GYŐR A4 Studio Location: Győr, Hungary Task: sports complex design for Youth Olympics Teammates: Éva Sághegyi, Zsófia Gönczöl In 2017 Győr is going to host the Youth Olympics for athletics, judo, swimming and tennis. Our goal was to design a sport complex that treats the four different sports as individuals, but builds a strong connection between them. We wanted to create a clear layout, to make it easy to find ones way between the different fields, training centres.

Also it was important for us, to separate the audience from the athletes. Therefore we created two different circulating levels, one on the ground which is connected to the fields for the athletes, and one 5 meters above for the audience, which is connected to the top of the grandstands.

INSTITUTE FOR BLIND PEOPLE A4 Studio Location: Budapest, Hungary Task: design metal sheet cover The whole institute were plannes by A4 Studio, my part in the project was to plan the finishing touches of the facade. My main idea was built on the fact, that most of the visually impaired living in the institute are not completely blind, they can see different light spots. Therefore I designed the perforated matel sheet, that blocks the too direct light, in a way that the bigger light spots form letters in Braille writing in a readable size for the visually impaired. From the inside the words home, life, safety and love are readable.

RESTORATION A4 Studio Location: Budapest, Hungary Task: restoration Teammate: Éva Såghegyi In the hearth of Budapest there is an old 4 storey house that has been left empty. To reuse the neglected building an accosiation decided to turn it into a new, very modern school. Our task was to design a new rooftop, which without disturbing the monumental facadewould show that there is an extraordinary, high-tech, modern school inside the old walls. The idea of the new roof was inspired by origami. We wanted to creat somthing light, somthing elegant, a roof that could levitate above the old house. With folding the roof like paper we managed to crate an intriuging outline that gives a modern caracter and opens up the interior the beautiful panorma of the city. As regarding the material of the roof we imagined a dark shiny copper, which colours could go from deep brown to reflecting the light blue of the sky.

SPORT CENTRE A4 Studio Location: PĂŠcs, Hungary Task: sport center, visual design During this project I was responsible for the visaul outcome of the building, meaning that from a given layout I had to create a shape that fits the given floorplans. The arrangement of the functions are really simply, four separate cubical sports halls with one joined lobby.

My intention was to creat and elegant, simple, yet intriguing shape, both regarding the exteriors and interiors. Some simple cuts give the main caracter of the bulding, either caused by only a change of material or by extaction from the basic cubical shape.

A combination of brushed metal sheet and glass give the main character of the facade. In the interior of the swimming pool the roof is folded into a fan-like shape to reduce the echoing. This fan-like shape appears in the foldings of the exterior metal sheet, to create visual conncetion between the interior and exterior.

STADION A4 Studio Location: PĂŠcs, Hungary Task: visualization Besides the above mentioned sport centre, a new stadium is also about to be built in on the same site in PĂŠcs. Though the plans of the stadium were made by an other architect studio, it was my task to make the visualizations, so that the visiual outcome of the two projects has the same presentation style.

FORESTY EXHIBITION Location: Pรถrbรถly, Hungary Task: exhibition interior Teammates: Safranek Zita, Vastag Andrea Our team was asked to redesign the already existing exhibition of the Gemenc Protected Area. Since the exhibition is aimed at audiences of all ages and inclinations, our aim was to create an atmosphere which would enthral anyone regardless of age or knowledge of forestry.

To achieve this, we wanted to evoke the magical atmosphere of the forest without directly copying it. We wanted to present the exhibited objects and animal displays as if they were in their natural and spectacular habitats.

One of the enchanting aspects of walking through a forest is the play of light and shadow cast by the trees. We wanted the vibrant spots of light on the floor and walls to be reminiscent of the percolated light coming through the foliage, recreating that magical atmosphere.

WINDMILL RESTAURANT Location: Sopron, Hungary Task: restaurant restoration Having lived in Sopron for a few years, I have often missed having a quiet place where people can sit down, relax, and mentally refresh. I therefore added an extra function to the original restaurant; combining it with a small library and coffee shop.

The interior is divided into two parts. One is the coffee shop where the books are available to the customers and can be taken off the shelves anytime; the other is the restaurant where books are placed in cabinets, used as partitions.

archicad model, artlantis render, photoshop post production

In the windmill section I designed an ‘endless’ bookcase spanning the full height of the structure, with the use of a spiral staircase to reach the upper-shelves.

The patio between the coffee shop and restaurant would be easily reachable from both parts. Green grass and comfortable benches await anyone wishing to read and relax under the open sky.

SPORT CENTRE Location: Szalafő, Őrség, Hungary Task: sport centre The southwest region of Hungary, Őrség, has a noticeably unique architectural character. The houses are shaped to serve people’s lifestyles and needs. The layout of the buildings and the connections between the villages shows an organic relationship between the people and their buildings.

archicad model, artlantis render, photoshop post production

The arrangement of the houses and villages in this area are representative of straight-forward attitude of the community. When planning my building I focused on keeping the shape logical, letting the function form its configuration. I tried to make an open system following the architectural character of the region. The play of the horizontal and vertical lines dominates the façade, showcasing the structure of the building. The materials would consist of a variety of brick, wood and glass surfaces. There are many big openings in the building to strengthen the connection between the functional sections, as well as create smooth transitions between the indoors and the outdoors.

AMPHITHEATRE Location: Sopron, Hungary Task: visitor centre The Amphitheatre in Sopron is adjacent to the biggest main road leading out of Austria. However, its current appearance draws no attention to itself.

My intention was to design a figurative edifice that would stand out from the surrounding landscape, draw the eye and be an attractive stopping point for travellers.

I found it really important to make a connection between the city and the amphitheatre by emphasizing the spectacular landscape with the “panorama bridge which would showcase the beautiful view over the city centre.

DRAWING Hand drwaings, sketches enable us to express our thoughts immediately in visualisations. Finding the right lines, sizes when shaping a building is really important. I beleive that studying the human body imrpoves our sense of proportion, since it is one of the most complex shapes and yet still so comprehensible and clear for eveyone.

LEAF Task: creative plant Materials: beeswax, copper wire In the development of this sculpture I tried to harness the essence of architecture; drawing from images of fragility and femininity.

In capturing the fragility of the leaf, I tried to show that cherishing our artistic values and culture is a privilege and our duty, as it too is fragile and requires continuous care.

I chose to model the Ginkgo leaf; a plant commonly used as a medicine to cure forgetfulness and memory loss. My wish was, using this as inspiration, to emphasize the idea of heritage within art and architecture; to remind us of how a sculpture, painting or a building is part of our cultural heritage and how it is important to respect and preserve our history. 41

TORDAS

IDENTITY CRYSTAL Material: 1 mm thick transparent acrylic Tordas, the village where I grew up, is a major part of my heritage and has had an important effect on my sense of self. Through the years its streets, parks and inhabitants have had a significant influence on my life, evolution as a person and the sculpting of my personality.

My Identity Crystal, therefore, was designed to create a three dimensional map of the village. The crystals ‘grow’ in spaces circled by streets, their size representing the age of the area.
