OPEN SPACE DESIGN

1 // NAGYKOVÁCSI CEMETERY

The cemetery of Nagykovácsi is located next to the place of the new city centre of the settlement. Therefore, in the design process we he had to keep in mind that the changes of its surrounding might affect the usage of the cemetery. In our concept we created a new entrance with bigger emphasis on the West side of the cemetery. We connected the other entrance with an alley to the funeral parlour. Next to the Western entrance we placed a scattering garden which has a connection to the water wall in the representative entrance zone, as the names from the scattering garden could be in this wall. There are kraut tombs in the cemetery which will be demolished so we designed a memorial for them in the North-West side of the cemetery. We kept the walkway on the East side and we placed the existing cross in its focal point. From the South to the North end of it, the cemetery slowly becomes more natural and calmer. As a consequence in the Northern end we placed areas mainly covered with lawn, plant walls and relaxing places.

The main essence of our concept is that the cemetery becomes calmer and relaxing to its Northern end. In addition, there is a wandering path which can help the people to think and be on their own while walking there. The following quote can help to express the main goal of our plan: “When there is really nothing left to do or believe, except to remember, walking helps retrieve the absolute simplicity of presence, beyond all hope, before any expectation.” - Frédéric Gros, A Philosophy of Walking. To help the thinking and the remembering we also designed an light-shadow urn corridor on the West-North part of the cemetery. With its cut-outs, it let less and less light in as we go inside, giving a unique atmosphere.

2 // SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR - ZICHY GROVE When creating our concept we payed attention to the historical background of Zichy Groove. We kept the main axes on the Western part, the big park feeling on the Eastern side and the vertical element at the entrance. Before the planning we made some interviews among the park users and we figured out that they like that the place has a real park feeling. They also mentioned the playground and the skating rink at wintertime. They missed the water from the park and the young people did not like the lack of functions. With these information in mind, we created a big green area with hammocks, an alternative playground, a wide walkway with randomly planted trees, intimate zones divided by hedges, and a transition zone in the direction of the historical downtown of Székesfehérvár. LANDSCAPE PROTECTION AND PLANNING

4 // NÉPSZIGET

In this work we worked on one of the Danube islands, on Népsziget. We analysed its history, its place in the city structure and its connections. We also looked up the regulations and the proposals which have been created for the island before. In our design first we focused on the whole Népsziget. We created a new pedestrian bridge to make its connection stronger with the city. We also created places for the kayak-canoe sections which have history in the site. Creating a connection with the Danube is also an important goal in our project as it has a great potential. The neglected industrial zones, or rust belt zones became our main focus area as the islands beautiful factory buildings can have plenty of functions in the future.

5 // CONCEPT PLAN FOR OOSTPLEIN, ROTTERDAM

The Oostplein used to be the eastern welcome of the Rotterdam city centre. It was the remnant of the Renaissance fortification with its city gate. In the 19th century it became the busy urban square, where everyone entered Rotterdam passing its monumental 35 m. tall windmill and the ever smoking chimney of the pump house wich brought the water from the deep polders into the river Maas right there. Due to the bombardment of the city at the Second World War, the loss of the windmill, the dominant traffic engineering and the realisation of the subway station, this place totally lost its spender. Now the Mayor of Rotterdam wants the Oostplein to be the welcome of the city centre again, being a green urban meeting point, a park. Therefor Oostplein, Burgemeester van Walsumweg en de west queue of Het Balkengat need to be brought together into a coherent green space that can be park, space and esplanade in one.

URBAN FOREST Goals, aims: - Creating an urban forest in order to bring nature closer to people of Rotterdam - Adding playfulness in the forest for informal activity, free opportunity for spending leasure time keep the urban context also in mind: lead the people into the forest and navigate them also when they are inside, do not let the wildness to be in the way of the urban flow

PLANTING PLAN

As a special attraction in the urban forest, I introduced a windmill made of a light wire structure which has the same scale and form as the one that has been there before. The wire structure lets the light go through so it is possible to create a memorial garden for the world war in the basement of the structure. The metro entrances also serve the concept of the urban forest. They has a mirror material from the outside and glass from the inside, which let the nature flow into the welcoming zone of the metro entrance. 21

5 // CONCEPT PLAN FOR OOSTPLEIN, ROTTERDAM

In the may days of 1940 the Marine barrack was bombed by the Germans. During that time and still, the Marines are one of the most respected and skilled soldiers in the Netherlands. In 1963 a monument for the Marine was donated from the people of Rotterdam. The monument is located on the opposite of the former Marrine barrack. When redesigning the square I did not change the position of the monument, it still faces the former barrack. Although I have higlighted it by placing it on a slope that elevates towards the harbour. The water is still visible in its background this way. Some elements of the pavement has a darker shade, and these thicken when coming closer to the monument. The lookout point has 5% slope in the direction of the harbour. The round shape of the remembrance square is highlighted with a round shape pedestrian road which has a 5% slope to each direction.

10 // VÁROSLIGET PROJECT - 2ND PLACE PROMENÁD CROSS SECTION

LÉPTÉK-TERV LANDSCAPE ARCH. INDIVIDUAL WORKS 2016 SPRING SEMESTER 38

Városliget is the second biggest park in Budapest and it is a recreational and cultural centre of the city. In 2016 they announced a design competition for the renewal of the green areas. I participated in the project with the Lépték-Terv Landscape Architects. I mainly worked on the details of the plan and the plan’s graphics. I designed an organic-shaped water structure and the parts in the park where the roads become wider and can provide relaxing places. In addition, I worked on cross sections of the promenade and the “water-energy house”. In the competition we won the second price with the office. PROMENADE PLAN

11 // HUNGARIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM’S GARDEN - PURCHASED PLAN

Our conception has been born among the historical style pillars of the garden - „quasi” symmetry - continuous green and its secondary subvision - characteristic promenade around the museum - characteristic roads specified by the statues of Kazinczy and Berzsenyi - symmetrical front and the secondary spaces in the back - treating the entrances based on historical principles - functional layout - the physical display of the original road network in the new green spaces
