It has been 4 decades since VOLTES-5 first came into Philippine TV.
I heard it got banned for having violent themes,
Inspiring the filipinos to fight the dictatorship government that it was.
or that it seemed like Noli me Tangere if it had its resemblances.
Hence after that, it took 2 decades for japanese animated films to reach the filipino’s mainstream media once again.
90’s. Suddenly our generation got hooked into watching TV.
During that time, the pinoy Alternative Rock scene also exploded along with other subcultures as globalization penatrates most filipino households.
Anime & Manga. Its specific terms to categorize all japanese cartoon & animated works. I remember watching:

Toys.
I’ve collected my share of the china-plastic gundams, some from animes ive never even watched --
I’ve had Tamiya cars,Beyblades, Yu-gi-oh cards...
Aside from that,
And i’m sure most everybody experienced the same,
or maybe you had it better.
I still watch anime... Wait to read SCANLATIONS every week,
Two and a half decades after,
Attend Cons, all sorts of things.
in fact,
there’s never a dull moment!
Fiction... Figments of imagination.
Isn’t it fascinating?
Technology & Magic,
Stories of lives we’ve never had...
We’ve watched their stories,
read the books & played their computer games,
Makes it easy to emphatize with them,
put ourselves in their shoes,
Face dire situations.
Pretend...
we are the heroes of our own stories.
But for so long now,
is there a reason to believe:
being an OTAKU
is counter productive?
I remember my parents would yell
as they assume that anime and cartoons are the same thing...
But sure,
and to be honest, i had my distractions but that was just me. i dont know about you.
i did fail some schooling,
Me, i’ve learned my lesson well.
They tell us that we are just running away from reality,
but whats wrong with that?
In real life, pain, theres poverty, ...dissapointment. Theres no way out.
but who wouldn’t want to escape?
I believe,
that only through wishful thinking, we can all be free from all these. This is why people create messiahs and super heroes in Dystopian worlds which depicts ours.
Some for inspiration..,
Some for comfort.
Everything i’ve learned,
my obsessions,
these things i do,
doesn’t it fit too well?
That being born into this culture,
i can define who i am...
...what im ought to become.
