Georgijs Osokins caused a sensation at the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015 when he was dubbed by critics as "exceptional and unpredictable." He was too much a "revolutionary" to be one of the prize winners; however, being a finalist proved enough. After the competition one of the clear audience favourites was so much in demand that just five days after the competition he was invited to perform in Poznan, Gdansk, Szczecin, Lublin, Krakow and Katowice, followed by monthly invitation for concerts in Poland through next November. Even before the finals, he walked away with opportunities often reserved just for prizewinners, as invitations from three continents started pouring in for a solo recital at the prestigious "Chopin and His Europe" festival in Warsaw and for his first Japan tour, as well as invitations from three continents for concerts and recordings. These include a performance at the NOSPR Concert Hall in Katowice, the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre Hall, Berlin Konzerthaus and recitals in Switzerland, Germany, the United States, Canada, Russia, Austria, and the United Kingdom. In 2016 he made important debuts at Berlin Konzerthaus Berlin, Germany), at Autumn Gidon Kremer Festival and at Vancouver Playhouse where he replaced outstanding pianist Nelson Freire. Also, in 2016 UK’s label “Piano Classics” released Georgijs’ debut CD album which consists of F. Chopin Late Works. This recording has already received brave reviews from important Canadian and French magazines.
Born into a family of predominantly pianists, Georgijs Osokins began his studies with his father, Professor Sergejs Osokins, a prominent teacher and pianist in Latvia, and he was occasionally tutored by Georg Friedrich Schenck, Sergei Babayan, Mikhail Voskresensky and Dmitri Bashkirov. Osokins' successes include winning top prizes in both the 9th International Moscow Frederick Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2014) and the 9th Alexander Scriabin International Competition in Paris (2009), the Chopin Prize at the 22nd Rina Sala Gallo International Piano Competition in Monza, Italy (2012) and Silver Medal at Berliner International Music Competition (2017). Georgijs Osokins received the Latvian Ministry of Culture Award but in March 2016 received the Latvian Grand Music Award which is the highest honour in the music industry of Latvia. Since his public debut with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra at the age of 10, he has appeared with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, Tokyo New City Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, Lviv Symphony Orchestra, Liepaja Symphony Amber Orchestra.
