For those of you who are CommunicaƟ ons Watchstanders or TelecommunicaƟ ons Operators, you know that a PanPan is an urgent broadcast announcing an emergency and requesƟ ng an all-hands response.

That’s what this arƟ cle is too; an urgent request to publish ediƟ ons of your newsleƩ er. The emergency engendered by COVID-19 has disrupted our Auxiliary life. We no longer can parƟ cipate in face-to-face meeƟ ngs, fellowship events, in-person classes, and general get-togethers with our Auxiliary friends and shipmates. We’re losing our camaraderie.

This is where your newsleƩ ers come in. Let’s do what we can to help our members feel like they’re sƟ ll part of a vital organizaƟ on. How about featuring what your members are doing while they’re staying at home? Facebook is probably a great place to start your research. Has your unit been conducƟ ng member training classes via webinar? How’s that working out? Did anyone take screen shots of webinar class parƟ cipants? Ask your unit leader to write an upbeat, inclusive arƟ cle.

So, don’t worry about photos of members in uniforms; instead, do what you can to keep each member feeling how the Coast Guard Auxiliary values them. Your newsleƩ er will go a long way to accomplish this and bring us together again.Ω
