London masterclass and seminar timetable 11am—12 noon: Medal Room

A Blueprint to Success in association with Harpers Wine & Spirit Trades Review Award-winning independent wine merchants and restaurateurs will share the secrets of their success to all those attending SITT next year. During the seminar A Blueprint for Success, you will be able to hear first-hand from leading independent wine merchants, restaurateurs and business consultants on what they see as the key steps that help an independent business stand out on a competitive high street. In London the A Blueprint for Success line-up includes wine consultant Tim Wildman MW of Les Caves de Pyrene and Winetec, as well as wine merchants and restaurateurs.

3:30pm—4:30pm: Medal Room

Fine Wines of Long Island Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the prestigious and authoritative wine competition, the International Wine Challenge, is taking time out of his busy schedule to present fine wines from five wineries in Long Island, New York state. This is an exciting wine region, brand new to the UK, even though some of these wineries have been producing wine for 30 years. Previously these sought-after wines have only been enjoyed in the restaurants of Manhattan, and by the glitterati visiting their exclusive and phenomenally expensive summer residences in the Hamptons. This will be a unique opportunity to taste some of the finest examples from five of the region’s wineries: Paumanok, The Lenz Winery, Channing Daughters, Wölffer Estate and McCall Wines. These are all imported by Long Island and New York state specialist Wine Equals Friends. Find out what the wines of Long Island have to offer, and learn about the terroir from which these fine wines are born, cradled between Long Island Sound and the beautiful beaches of the Atlantic. Discover the stories of the varied individuals who are producing world-class wines, both experimental and traditional, on the edge of one of the world’s great oceans. Share the fruits of their passion, and convince your clients to try wines they haven’t before, wines that provide stunning complexity for impressive value compared with some other North American regions. Be prepared for the surprise of the show — learn about an established fine wine region whose wines you have never tasted before.

Please register at reception if you would like to attend the seminar and/or masterclass.

Wines of Chile is the organisation responsible for the promotion of Chilean Wine in the UK. We are a small but dynamic team consisting of Michael Cox, UK director, and Anita Jackson,

campaign manager, and will be on hand during both SITT events to answer any questions that you may have on Chile and its wines, or how Wines of Chile can work with your business.

Guide Retail Price INDEPENDENT WINE MERCHANTS PROMOTION: Details and registration for our third Independent Wine Merchants Awards will be available during the SITT events. This year we are offering five first prizes of a trip to Chile in January 2013, plus £500; and for five runners-up a prize of a cheque for £500.

PEQUEÑAS WINERY TASTING: In June we will hold our second Pequeñas Winery Tasting (Boutique Chilean Wineries) this event is predominantly for those seeking a winery to represent, so if you are an importer or wholesaler who is looking to distribute or increasing your Chilean wine portfolio with some niche wines, we would be interested in speaking to you and registering your details for the tasting.

THE SOMMELIER CHILE CHALLENGE: The Second Sommelier Chile Challenge will be held in July. This is a tasting with a difference for sommeliers — with five themed tables, the wines on taste will selected by two of the UK’s leading wine journalists. All wines will be tasted blind, however, there will be some non-Chileans in the line-up. These “ringers” will be chosen by leading on-trade wholesalers/ importers; the criteria being that they must be their top-selling non-Chilean wines within the category for each themed table, we hope you can come and speak to us to register your interest.

Finally, to stimulate your taste buds while chatting to us about the above, we have the following wines:

Casa Silva Cool Coast Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Paredones, Colchagua, Chile Santa Rita Medalla Real Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2009, Leyda Valley, Chile Undurraga TH Carignan 2009, Maule Valley Falernia Carmenère 2009, Elqui Valley, Chile Haras de Pirque Character Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère 2007, Maipo Valley, Chile

DISCOVER A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE CAMPAIGN New this year, our Discover A World of Difference campaign, will engage with the on and off-trade in equal measure. Our eight-strong team of ambassadors will hold a large number of hosted tastings and dinners in independent wine merchants and restaurants throughout the country, extolling the virtues of Portuguese wines to the consumer. They will also be responsible for strengthening links, training and incentivising shop staff and sommeliers. This approach is a win-win for all involved — we get energetic and accurate delivery of key messages through benchmark wines, consumers learn more about Portuguese wines and the host independent/restaurant gets some promotional stock, an engaging evening for their customers and increased sales. Come and see us if you would like to find out how you can get involved.

WHERE TO BUY PORTUGUESE WINES The ViniPortugal “where to buy” website is a fantastic tool to help consumers to find Portuguese wine locally, by name, producer or importer. List your company and wines for free and find out how the website can benefit you.

SOCIAL MEDIA Do you have news, events or promotions coming up? We can spread the news in our monthly trade and consumer newsletters, on Facebook (We Love Portuguese Wines) and Twitter (@vpwine). Email winesofportugal@cubecom.co.uk with all the details and any images that you would like included.
