Philanthropy is wonderfully common and yet also remarkable. For the last 25 years, the National Philanthropy Day Awards, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Washington Chapter, have celebrated philanthropy in Washington State. Ten honorees from Whatcom County are part of that ongoing history heralding outstanding philanthropy in the Fourth Corner.
The David C. & Joyce Morse Family, honored in 2007, began a wonderful tradition: they chartered a bus and filled it with their family, friends and other supporters to travel to the celebration. The St. Luke’s Foundation (soon-to-be Chuckanut Health Foundation) and the Whatcom Community Foundation continue that tradition by hosting the Philanthropy Express which whisks Philanthropy Day attendees to the event in Seattle and returns home to Whatcom County. The generosity and hard work of all of these honorees (and many other nominees) make Whatcom County a better place to live, work and play.
Thank you for being a part of the rich, continuing story of philanthropy in our community. We hope you enjoy the following excerpts from the nominations for each of Whatcom County’s Philanthropy Award honorees to date. We look forward to publishing volume two.
