Braund’s Fair 81 King St W.
One of my favourite store pictures is this one of standing along with their children and dog in front of the family business on King St. W. The store was located on the south side, two doors west of St. Andrew St.
Built in Brockville
1909 Both the photo and the following item were published in a 1909 Souvenir Edition Booklet published by THE EVENING RECORDER for the Brockville Board of Trade: For nine years now, the name of W. Braund has been identified with Brockville’s mercantile interests, in connection with “Braund’s Fair” of which he is the proprietor. Fifteen years ago he established himself in business in Lindsay, later opening stores in Smith’s Falls and Brockville. All three are conducted along the same lines. The Brockville store, located on King Street West, is in a three storey stone building of which the basement and two flats are used for the business. The stock consists of fancy goods,
crockery, decorated chinaware, glassware, Japan goods, toys and games, and general goods. Since its establishment, this store has increased its influence year by year, acquiring new departments as the demand for them sprang into existence. Mr. Braund who has lived here for a considerable time, is now one of the prominent merchants of Brockville, not only because of his own broad success, but because of his public-spiritedness, and his broad financial judgment. As a member of the Board of Trade he takes a practical and active interest in the development of the town. © Copyright, Doug Grant, October 2009
