This spectacular museum was designed by the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid and sits on the banks of the River Clyde, site of the famous Clyde shipbuilding industry. The museum features the largest object in Glasgow Museums’ collection, the South African Railways locomotive 3007, as well as the world’s oldest bicycle and a recreated early 1900’s street. This is no conventional transport museum though – the stories of the people who made, drove and used transport are centre-stage with the objects.

HUNTERIAN MUSEUM – THE MACKINTOSH HOUSE

82 Hillhead Street. G12 8QQ The Mackintosh House is a meticulous reassemblage of the principal interiors from the Mackintoshes’ Glasgow home. The couple lived at 78 Southpark Avenue (originally 6 Florentine Terrace) from 1906 to 1914. Substantial alterations were made in 1906 as Mackintosh remodelled the proportions and natural lighting of the Victorian end-of-terrace house.
